I served twice in Berlin Infantry Brigade, 1973-5 and 1988-9. My battalion, 1 KOSB, lived next door in Brooke Barracks. Happy days!

My husband was in Devon Dorset reg 1985/86 we were stationed here I had my baby in 1986 British military hospital happy memories now have 7 grandchildren

I was there with the Royal Hampshire Regiment. 1985, I remember I was on guard on my 18th birthday. Can’t believe I actually stood outside in the snow. It was-5 at 04.30 hrs. I got a call from my mum to wish me happy birthday. I loved my time in Berlin.

My dad served here in 1950/51 in the Manchester Regiment. My parents were married in the barracks church.

I was in Brooke Barracks 81 to 84 with 2RRF. At the time RIR were in Wavell. This brings back some great memories, thanks for sharing it.

@@TheRainbowgirl1960 WOW this is un real we lived 1 65g opposite on same landing we had a white Ford Capri. We went back 3 years ago, quarter area still looks the same. what used to be the NAAFI is a mess, some kinda eatery but closed

Very well presented, I can understand how you felt about this place and it's reflected by everybody that experienced life , by all the various British Forces that served in Germany, in that vast spaced out inventory of bases.. Great soundtrack and memory jogging footage. You should be proud!

Served here in 90s with Gordons loved every yr of it i was there . Am going back soon for trip down memory lane .I loved Berlin didn't want to come back it was some of best days of my life with the lads we will never meet such good friends again thanks for posting buddy.

Stumbled across this, my late Father was CSM HQ Coy 2R.Irish in 81 in Wavell. I had a marvellous time in West Berlin as a 16yr old and renewed old friendships with 2RRF who had been beside us in Hemer. Went back in 06 and so so much had changed in Spandau. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thanks for watching. I’m heading back in 2 weeks with a few lads, ex Irish Guards, Wavell Barracks 1989-1992. There is also a fusilier from 2RRF coming with us. Wonderful city and best posting of my career.

we went there in 77 . welsh guards . straight swap with green jackets to caterham . incidentally the 1st non guards reg ever to be based in caterham . old guards depot .

A marvellous and well put together photo set of your memories of your time in Berlin.......One for the record archives?!........I also love your choice of the very appropriate music tracks........Although I never served in Berlin, I did recognize (along with other vets, I,m sure), that the dilapidated conditions of the former British military establishments certainly mirrors the sad state of so many other former establishments throughout B.A.O.R./BFG.......Either demolished or left to rot........There are still some that have been handed back to the German people which have been utilized within their local communities to good effect (which is a more favourable outcome. IMO).......I really enjoyed your memories........and thank you for sharing.

I served in Berlin 1961-1963 I saw a lot like Spandau prison with Hess spears, InVance rows there

My dad was RAMC at Kladow with Green Jackets. We lived in Kladow for 3 years . Berlin was a wonderful place. Our family goes back every few years even though we moved to Canada. It’s really changed a lot, don’t even hear people speaking German much on transit anymore!

Thank you for a brilliant video. I was a young Coldstream Guardsman stationed there in 1973/74 . Many good memories, but it seems like a lifetime ago. ? I wonder what has become of the place now. ?

Loved my time in Wavell Bks. Ist Bn Royal Hampshire Rgt December 83- May 85.

I lived in Alexander Bks in 1975….my cousin was in 1 Para at Montgomery Bks…..

was there in 79 in RCT,We didnt have a guard room so got locked up in Wavell,was run by Coldstream guards if i remember BIG shock to the system been in a Guards regt nick ha ha

Really saddened to see the state of Wavell Barracks. I was there 1973-75 with 1btn Coldstream Guards. Schultheiss was a great beer but it’s not brewed in the area anymore I’m told.

Brings back some great memories. Fkn loved it there until I became CO's driver. QS

You guys took over us, I was Irish Guards. Best posting I had in my career.

I remember doing the Queens Birthday parade at the Stadium. 38 RE, Building the stands and setting up the display, seating and bunting on the viewing area. Kinds spooky standing where Adolf et al stood.

It's a shame they're letting everything go to rot. They should all be a museum for visitors to see history.

Playing hockey on that square in minus 3 😂

Sad to see the state of some of the places, remembering how it used to be back in the day. I lived at RAF Gatow and a lot of that has been done up to the standard German families expect and a lot of new building has gone on there too. In a way it's sad to see all the new building but it's a lot better than leaving the place to rot like Wavell, Brooke and Montgomery Barracks seem to have been.

Ich wurde 1957 in Spandau geboren. Vor meiner Einschulung wurden Spandauer Kinder zu Weihnachten von den Soldaten in die Brookskaserne eingeladen. Ich bekam meinen die ersten Legobasteine geschenkt. Ich habe nur gute Erinnerungen an die britische Armee. Hoffentlich ist die Zeit der Nazis endlich vorbei. An den Wachabwechsel am Kriegsverbrechergefängnis kann ich mich gut erinnern.
