The scene where Barry kills the kid hits even harder when you remember Barry told them in training, never hesitate because the second you hesitate, you're dead

This episode is actually the first time all season Barry actually kills anyone, even if he tried to.

at the beginning of the season he walks out of darkness, and in this episode he walks back into it

It's crazy to think the show only gets better from here - so underrated seriously

No. This is the peak of the show. It just got worse and worse once it came back from the pandemic.

Sally was completely afraid of being judged and feeling vulnerable and being seen as weak. That scared her because that kind of truth can make people uncomfortable. And seeing her agent act all kind of stressed out DEFINITELY didn't instill confidence in her. Like Fuches said, people want Braveheart. So, she panicked and changed the story in the heat of the moment. She is VERY uncomfortable with this choice and feels a lot of shame and feels AWFUL about it (especially cuz she wants to be a truthful artist). The scene where she gets the reactions from the audience is brilliant. Especially that lady who said, "I had a friend in a similar situation and she did NOT have the courage to do what you did." These situations are much more nuanced than this. Survivors of domestic abuse aren't weak for staying or whatever. It's a VERY terrible situation. Sally's fear was kinda right. If she had told the truth of what actually happened, this is how people would've perceived her: weak. Now she has critical acclaim, but at what cost? The show did such a brilliant job with her character arc

Watching Barry just lock in and go on a murder spree was wild. Zero hesitation on the buddy we built up all season too.

Another top-tier Barry episode, directed by Bill Hader. Dude is SERIOUSLY skilled.

"You guys are like Fleetwood Mac: you break up, you come back together again, and then you go out and make a great album like, 'The Best of Fleetwood Mac'!" might be one of my favourite jokes of all time lol

At least you guys don't have to wait 2 years for Season 3

Gene didn't just realize that Fuches was telling the truth. He just realized what was said to him because he was in shock so his mind basically blocked it out and when he laid down in bed is when he processed it. So Roshi is right on that. Although he wasn't right on why the guys weren't trying to shoot Barry down lol.

Barry indiscreetly pointing right where Mayrbek would later be shot at was the craziest foreshadowing I've ever seen. (For context look back at where Barry was yelling at him about hesitation in killing)

15:39 barry literally told him how he was gonna die when he trained them

sally most likely would have gone along with the original scene idea, where she tells the truth, if barry had even once solidified that it was a good idea back stage before they got on. but he was so blacked out and in non verbal mode, that she ended up doubting herself too much, and going back on it because she was scared

Naah for real, get Sheera in a damn writers' room, bruh The way she pieces together story beats before they even play out, and fully understands the deeper meaning of each episode's theme is near unmatched I've been enjoying watching y'all run through this series It only gets crazier from here

HADER: We tried to get that he was going to kill Sally, and he is no different than Sam was kind of the idea that we were playing with in that moment. And then how those two things intersect whereas like, by her being afraid of her truth, she ends up inadvertently saving her life in a weird way. It was always like, is he going to kill Sally? I don't know, but he's definitely hyped up in a place.

After this episode aired live it was known that there would be a season 3 but we all expected that it would be out about a year after season 2. Then production got delayed and it turned into a three year wait. This is one of my favorite episodes of the show, but that cliffhanger ending was BRUTAL.

Idk why the subtitles didnt tell you, but in that last scene the chechens are saying that Fuches is Barrys mentor so they instantly want to help him get to safety not knowing obviously that barry is there to kill him

The ending with Barry walking into the darkness is very symbolic and poignant.

14:06 Remember Roshi, they don't know that it's Barry yet. All they know is that there's gunfire. So when Barry walks in (who they think is on their side) they're not thinking to shoot him. Sheera's right, they have no idea Barry is the one killing everyone until it's too late Edit nvm I just needed to watch literally 45 seconds more.

Two points: 1. Sheera was right that they didn't know who was shooting so they hesitated, but the hesitation is enhanced with the fact that their TEACHER was shooting. So there's that double hesitation. The one who gave them purpose and skills. 2. I think Gene processing what Fuches told him is well timed. Because if he had processed it sooner, he would've told the police while he was being interviewed. So only AFTER he was released, where he would not be held further for questioning and where they could immediately go on a chase for Barry, was when he realised.

Astute analysis from Sheera, as usual. Glad you guys are enjoying the show!

It felt more like Sally sabotaged Barry out of jealousy more than anything I'd say. She was jealous of him getting an audition just like that and she wanted to take the spotlight away from him completely and make it about JUST her

It’s been confirmed that she just freaked out because everybody around her kept being vague about whether it was a good idea to be that vulnerable on stage, making her more and more unsure and in the heat of the moment she decided to pull up her defenses and lie so people wouldn’t see her as weak (which they would have, as unfortunate as that is). Bill Hader also said that she also might have saved her life by doing that and catching Barry off guard because he was blacked out and if she allowed him to be violent he would’ve gone overboard. And at the end of the day, it’s HER piece, there’s no “sabotaging Barry” when she IS the main character of her own piece and the spotlight is, quite literally, on her.

She threw him completely under the bus to make herself look good and she succeeded. She got noticed, while he didn't even get to say anything. And she even slapped him beforehand too.

Her going off-book has nothing to do with her supporting or not supporting Barry. It has EVERYTHING to do with her absolutely FREAKING the FUCK out about her performance and having to tell the truth in front of HUNDREDS of people. Add to that, see saw her agent being STRESSED the fuck out the entire day about this whole event. And then Barry arrives, all clammed up beforehand... So she just PANICKED and changed the scene. The slap wasn't like... putting him down or whatever. It's her just trying to get his head in the game. An extension of that moment when she and Cousineau were egging him on to choke her for the performance in class. It's wrong and she shouldn't have done that, especially cuz Barry already negatively reacted to being egged-on like that. It's part of the Cousineau method, I guess... wherein you berate or provoke someone to get an reaction out of them so they can act better. Her changing the scene def messed with Barry. Of course it did. But your wording makes it sound as if it is some cunning, calculated move to put down Barry & usurp his career. It was not. She simply panicked. There's a beat where she herself is surprised at what she had just done. It is why she tried to exit the show early, in full-on tears. Even her rant last episode (which happened during her actively helping him rehearse the scene, btw. She has definitely helped or tried to help Barry with his acting in the past) was about saying: I am happy for you getting this role, but I am INCREDIBLY frustrated with my career right now and how much crap I've had to put up with and how many fiery hoops I've had to jump through. So if you do get this, it'll make me even more frustrated.

@@SidPhoenix2211 Man, that's a lot of words to defend an emotional and physical abuser dating a nearly-physical abuser(this doesn't really need clarification, but unless I clarify that Barry is also a bad person, Sally defenders will gang up with their "BUT YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BARRY FUCKING SEXIST"). I especially loved the "The slap wasn't like... putting him down or whatever. It's her just trying to get his head in the game.". Classic physical abuse defense, like: "Oh no, it wasn't for abusive purposes, it was just an accident/spur of the moment/was needed to calm him/her down".
