Bergen, Norway: Salty Harbor Town - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite
More info about travel to Bergen: www.ricksteves.com/europe/nor... Bergen is a big city by Norwegian standards, but visitors sticking to the compact old center find it charming. Enjoy the busy harbor with its salty market and timber warehouses dripping with Hanseatic history, then stroll the pedestrian-friendly old quarter, with cute lanes of delicate wooden houses. Then for a modern contrast, head for Bergen's urban heart - which has a thriving personality all its own. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #bergen

I'd love to visit there one day. Amazing and peaceful country and city 🌤❤✨
My fav place in the world was where I lived in a tiny farming community as a child in the Province of Alberta, CANADA. It was called "Bergen" and boasted the Bergen General Store, the Bergen Community Hall, the Bergen Missionary Church and a handful of farms and that's all. I LOVED IT THERE! What I didn't know until I grew up is that MY Bergen had been settled a few generations before by a handful of Norwegian families from the Big Bergen in Norway who must have been homesick for the "old country". You never know where [or when] history will suddenly jump up and bite you.
Keep going Mr Rick. Fantastic videos. Thanks.
so happy for been there last summer.love it.
Beautiful city! I'd like to one day visit Norway, Bergen in particular. My sister-in-law was born in Bergen.
I live in Bergen, and if I were to show a friend who was not from Norway around, I would've chosen 17th of May, 1st of December, or any part of june/july/august. 17th of May is the national day of Norway, and as far as I know, it's far more celebrated than in nearly any other country. Streets are PACKED, and there's lots to see. 1st of December brings on "festival of lights", celebrating the first sunday of advent. Other than that, winter and autumn is rainy, so try to visit during summer.
Beloved city I wish to visit one day, plus the fjords. Fell in love with Norway in 1985 as I travelled my Grade 7 atlas.
My family lives in Bergen. I'd love to visit Bergen!
Bergen is beatiful City...though we tour this city briefly during our June Scandinavia Tour 2008 and was obstructed by heavy rain the scenic and historical of it city captivate us .....luv to come and visit again.
Good video. My wife and I were just here in October and really enjoyed it. Of course we used our Rick Steves' Scandinavia book to help guide us around Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia :-)
Visiting Bergen soon! Thanks for the information. Great video!
ça donne envie d'y aller... et j'apprécie le caractère nordique tel que je me le représente, fait de simplicité, de vigueur, d'honnêteté et de tant d'autres choses que je ne soupçonne même pas.
You always learn some thing new when you watch one of Rick Steve's travel show! And I sure could use a vacation my self Rick!
Ålesund is my favourite one in Norway too- so romantically charming, but windy, even in summer.
beautiful,beautiful!!!!
Wonderful and beautiful City!
Amazing. This is what You Tube should be all about !!! Many thanks.
I wonder how those old timber houses in Sandviken compare with the modern ones in terms of construction methods. Some of them look just like the typical 1950s suburban home in North Carolina West Virginia and etc
Love Bergen. I ve been to Bergen.
Wow these are amazing shots! Great video :)

When it doesn't rain, Bergen is a really beautiful city to walk around in. The two most beautiful Norwegian cities, in my opinion, is Ålesund (or Aalesund, for those who lacks letters in their alphabet :D ) and Bergen.
The interesting story about lovely city.
I want to move there from the states!

+Brage Mellingen Larsen. In 1967 when I was almost two-years-old, my Dad sent my Mom and I a postcard from Bergen, which I still have. Your city is still as beautiful as it ever was! What a lovely place to live! Greetings from Massachusetts, USA! :)

If you don't like high taxes, big government, and a maternity leave for women of twelve months (and at least one month for the father), this video is likely going to piss you off. And I hope it does. Why? Consider: Norway has the highest quality of life of any country in the world. Norway has highest human development index in the world. And if you don't know what a Keynesian economic model is, I suggest you take yourself to Google and find out.,,,,

Norway is truly a beautiful country and does enjoy a very high standard of living due primarily to 3 things: 1) Small homogeneous population with a common culture and work ethic. 2) Large energy reserves which largely fund 3) a generous social safety net. As far as economics goes, Norway and the rest of the Scandinavian countries have a long history of productive economies using the Nordic model that is distinct from Socialism and long predates the welfare state expansion during the 60s. Remarkably, their long-standing economic growth has been largely non-Keynesian in nature.

@@rosihantu1 US tax is lower but you don't get free healthcare, education, child care, maternity leave etc, so if you add in all those extras it is just as high or even higher, for a lower standard of service.
