Bent Knee Tongs from Sucker Rod Scraps
Ойын-сауық
Complex shapes can be difficult to hold, and contortionism can be hard on the joints. Bent knee tongs help hold those shapes without being so hard on the body.
Hand forged from 5/8" sucker rod (4130-ish) these take some work to draw out, but are well worth the work to add to the blacksmith shop.
Thanks for watching, we'll see you on the next one!

Great video and a good project! I hang a coal rake out of the pritchel hole on my anvils and it goes a long way toward removing any lingering ringing from the anvil. You might give that a shot. As a couple others have noted a rounded edge on the anvil is even faster than the horn and tends to be quieter.

Far side of the anvil is my typical go-to, if I'm thinking about it. This anvil/stand combo actually doesn't ring very much. My microphone setup actually makes it sound more pronounced than it is. The sound the horn makes is more of a "clack" and is really hard to muffle without those efforts getting in the way, and magnets get knocked off almost immediately.
Nice job, I really like your hole punch design.

Thank you! I have actually revised my design on the holder. Will have a new video on it in the next week or so.
that was fun! Thanks for sharing.
Those should be a good set of tongs. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I can't wait to put them to use.
I have found that the difference between using the horn or a rounded edge of your anvil is a matter of how lumpy you want your fullering to be on the bottom side of your piece. That said, a strong magnet at the base of the horn may address the sound. As usual, nice work and presentation. Stop over some Sunday and chat with the gang of smiths on my live stream.

@@JackPinesBlacksmithing getting up that early on a Sunday is a big ask. 😂 I'll see if I can't pop in this weekend and check it out.
Very nice job. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep forge lit. Keep making. God bless.

Thank you!
..Good job on the tongs sir! i prefer function over looks. @ 11:00 i use my ASO RR track for fullering out material. it's got about the same dome as the rounding hammer and is very useful that way. sometimes ya got to put things on the back burner...!

Thank you! I'm going to make a bottom tool that clamps onto the face over the sweet spot specifically for drawing out material. Actually, will probably do that while I'm low on coal, since it's mostly a fabrication project.
I use the edge on the anvil, it's faster to draw out there.

Yes! I had a couple hundred feet of the stuff buried in a pasture. Have made probably over 100 tools with the stuff.

I'm not set up for anything like that. I appreciate the thought though. It's not a big deal, shouldn't be too long, and I have a bunch of other stuff to do in the meantime. Worst case scenario I can just use my gasser for a while.
