how I see it is, Harry was obviously very sympathetic to Beth, he was a little soft not judging but she was slightly turned off by it. She expected a little more from him but she didn't receive it. She asked him if he saw stuff the way she did as far as chess, he denied. Their thinking was complete opposite. Benny is a complete opposite of Harry. Even Beth said (mainly after she got r a i l e d ) "thats how it's supposed to feel." Benny was obviously more of a you know how to put it. When she asks Benny, "Do you ever imagine chess games inside your head" because she thinks she crazy for doing so he replies with, "Doesn't everybody?" Basically Benny had more in-common with her, gave her more passion. Harry was just a very sweet person but not a better chess player than Benny which didn't help her. You could honestly tell Benny had more of a type, play-hard-to-get but Harry was kind of all of the place, just whatever she wanted and don't get me wrong that was very sweet. Harry is kind of that nice gentle boyfriend, "I will do whatever you want babe." and Benny was more of a, "Call me when you are horny." type shizz LMAO . I like them both this is just my predicament. She really loves Townes though more than both of them. If Townes weren't gay, she'd probably turn them both down tbh. (no hate comments had to really write a whole essay on my nerd pov.)

I kinda agree, but at the same time I think in the end she grew to love Benny more than Townes (that’s how it was in the book at least). Townes was always just a childhood crush (even though a strong one) and as she got older she started to get it, I think...

i think Benny kept Beth conscious when she plays chess. and Harry, he's just, you know, appears at the right moment after the funeral. Benny is someone who Beth used to scare of so much but Harry, she never interest in him that much. That's the difference between U.S Open Champion vs Kentucky Champion.
