    If you want a lower cheek-piece, try getting one of the picatinny rail covers the AR shooters use, plenty on that auction site for paintball and airsoft replicas, only a few quid. The rifle itself is made by a Turkish company for Benjamin, the same company appear to do a version with a buddy bottle and a scope rail which can be adjusted, may be worth asking Range Right if they could get one for comparison, added bonus is aftermarket regulators are already available for the M18x1.5 thread used on those buddy bottles.

    Hi Rob. Excellent comment and I was thinking the same thing regarding the cheekpiece. They have told me that some very interesting stuff is coming our way so you never know it may be some of those that are on the way. It could make an interesting comparison video. The Akela as you can see is incredibly consistent even without the regulator and unlike some unregged rifles you don't need to hunt for the sweet spot as it's sweet from max fill. I may see if I can order some lower cheek pieces to supply with the Akela for people with big football heads like me.

    Hi Iwan. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I loved the Akela mate. If you've seen our other bullpup reviews you can see I'm not that comfortable with it due to the lack of weight or they're just far too short but the Akela is a beautiful thing to shoulder and the finish on it is incredible not to mention the consistency through the chrono and the accuracy for a barely leaded barrel. It's definitely worth a shoulder at least and see if your local dealer will let you cycle the action and get a feel for the trigger. Thanks Iwan!

Don't get Me wrong ,I adore the precision of PCP's , the engineering enthralls Me, every thing about them is just what the air-gunner ordered , with One exception ! . They feel " soulless " for want of a better term . Almost like - it's too easy . A little bit like the way I feel about Honda's ,Smooth ,Fast excellently engineered , some are even nice to look at indeed truly superb machines , but they do the job for You ,leaving nothing for the rider to do other than point them in the right direction . Springers make Me smile , they demand concentration and attention , many are also brilliantly engineered and almost art like in their appearance , but they give the shooter "feed back " and only those willing to put in the effort can get the best from them . Nice honest review dan 👍I did think when I shouldered gun the check piece to scope rail would be a problem for some people especially for me to get a good line of sight plus if you use higher scope mounts to cure this problem then the scope will have quite a big distance between barrel to scope which could be a hard to zero scopes in which I’ve come across before. 🤔 thanks si 😉

  • @bigdansairguns83

    @bigdansairguns83

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Si! Yeah the only alternative without buying a lower cheekpiece is to remove the standard cheekpiece and rest on the rail. Which is perfect if a little cold. I've noticed that a few new bullpups have been leaving the cheekpiece too high in relation to the scope rail. The new Snowpeak/Artemis P-35 also suffers with this issue yet the P-15 was fine. Hey Wrinkle! Ooof that's a hard one... before I'd handled the Akela I would've said go M16 as I loved mine. BUT. Since I've shot one and seen the quality of them it's not so easy now... I'm still a rifle man deep down so I'd still lean towards a full sized rifle but that Akela really is special.. ...that being said, given the choice between the M16 and the Benjamin Cayden I'm going Cayden all day long. Walnut stock, power adjuster, less pellet fussy barrel and better mags than the M16. I've actually replaced my M16 with a Cayden. Although I'm also tempted to keep a Cometa Orion too. Can't go wrong with Robert Lane regulators, cold hammer forged barrels and a lifetime warranty all for nearly the same price as the Akela.

    There are some really lovely PCP guns coming out now but why are they obsessed with these types of magazines. FX for example, beautiful rifles but those magazines are just a pain in the arse. Why don’t they follow the likes of weihrauch a simple metal and very effective system which you can fill with your eyes shut and will no doubt outlast a couple of bits of plastic and a spring! Anyhow fella rant over and it’s good to see you back on here, look forward to more of your videos.

    @bigdansairguns83

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Andrew! Ooof good question... simply due to weight and handling I'd say Akela for hunting and Empire X for target work. The Empire is a bit of a heffalump with a larger scope fitted and is in general a slightly bulkier rifle. Very accurate though and the shot count will be better suited for a long target session. The Akela for me is the better hunter though. It's a smidge lighter feeling due to the balance and due to the baffle system you don't even really need a silencer keeping the rifle nice and compact. There's neither a winner nor loser out of the pair of them and both rifles stack pellets no problem. Thanks Andrew and I hope this helps.

    Hi Rar! It's a hard one, the P-35 has the built in regulator but it's an odd little thing to shoulder/scope up and it can be a gamble with Chinese barrels. The Akela has a lower shot count but a better trigger and a beautiful stock. I've never had one that didn't group neither. What I will say though is that the P-35 has a massive tuning community behind it. I'd go for an Akela personally and have it regulated but it's a tough choice.

    @@bigdansairguns83 I think the 'Kral' mags have a little plastic locking finger that increases the friction to keep them in place. Hi Dan, looking forward to getting one of these, probably in .177. Being in the UK Benjamin are not that main stream. Quality wise it's typical Benjamin/Crosman I imagine, I am speaking from experience as I have a number of Crosman/Benjamin product's among them Discovery with Marauder trigger mod and other improvements, Marauder rifle .22. There has been criticism of the magazine being plastic and a spring but these fist appeared on a British gun Theoben, I have had a Mk1 Rapid 17 for over 30 years with the same magazine, no problem. The finish is not as deep as would be on a Weihrauch, Air Arms etc that why it marks easily !. Prise wise I have been surprised, Marauders i the uk at one time were £900 + which was absurd. I still think it can be a bit of a lottery if you get a good barrel with Crosman so people should be aware of that although things may have improved on quality control. Thanks for the video.

  • @bigdansairguns83

    @bigdansairguns83

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Jeremy! The .177's aren't in the UK just yet but they're definitely coming. The Marauder is an interesting rifle as they're absolutely huge in the U.S but gained very little traction over here likely due to the pricing as you've mentioned. Regarding mags you can't really go off of material as you've stated yourself, a plastic mag can be twice as reliable as a metal mag (looking at you older BSA!). These Benjamin/Crosman rifles are actually manufactured in Turkey but to Benjamin's own spec, a lot of people confuse them with Kral's which isn't the case. The internals are supposedly completely different to Kral and the finish is definitely a higher grade no offense to Kral. Although they've not long been released we've had no complaints regarding the new Benjamin PCP's regarding accuracy or reliability so finger's crossed these should be winners for people looking for an incredibly smart but budget friendly bullpup. Thanks Jeremy!
