So those magnificent dresses that I see in bollywood movies (example: Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, etc) are a gigantic piece of beautifully decorated silk that you Hindu women ply and fold? (with a lot of skill may say), in ignorance I believed that those were a series of overlapping skirts and petticoats.... stunning! 🥰 what a beautiful garment, an art in itself. There are skirts too that you see in movies! Those are called lehengas. And this is saree.

The dresses in padmaavat were lehengas (full skirt, cropped blouse, and dupatta which they use for draping over the chest or head). However Kashibai in bajirao mastani wore a saree in dhoti style (which they wrap the saree around the legs to make a pant style and then drape the rest across the chest). Hope this helps you understand the difference :)

For most of the movies dresses get stitched. Even if they look like sarees. Most famous of them probably being the ones made for the song Dola re dola.

Finally found a video on how to drape a saree in Thakurbari style.You see in the comment section people are commenting that this is not a bengali saree drape but the truth being it's a bengali saree drape originating from Thakurbari,Rabindranath Tagore's family which is in Kolkata, this saree drape was invented by Gyandanandini Devi,wife of Satyendranath Tagore because it was quite uncomfortable to work, do household work in an aatpoure saree drape.

Whenever I got any party before searching my wardrobe I search your videos and then the saree... thank you ma'am for teaching draping ❤❤❤

Authentic traditional bengali drape is little different, but yes its cool too😘
