Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Tarakeswar affair, also known as the Tarakeswar scandal or the Mahant-Elokeshi affair, a public scandal in 19th-century Bengal during the British Raj. Elokeshi, a 16 year girl was decapitated by her husband on suspicion of a love affair between Elokeshi and Mahant of Tarakeswar temple. The case resulted into a highly highly publicised trial known as Tarakeswar murder case of 1873.

In other community, it's legal law and they can chop the head or stone you. Atleast these guys got punished for the crime. Other communities are still fighting for Shariya. Lalantop is new NDTV. You are getting to know this old Story becouse it belongs to majority community. So count your stars.

there is another case of "Phulomni dasi rape case of 1889" where she was only 10 years old and was married to 30 years old man and he tried to consummate her on first night and this led to her death...and later british raised the marriage age for women and a bengali news paper editor was arrested under sedition charges bcoz he was instigating people for riot that these angrez are interfering in hindu tradition THIS IS ALSO INDIA'S FIRST CASE OF SEDITION.

The first sedition case which you are mentioning here was the Bangobashi case. The editor of the newspaper Jogendra Chandra Basu had written against the High Court Judge, who had given the judgement. This was considered as instigating hatred against the state and he was punished.

Here is one noticeable point is.. Bcoz she was not getting pregnant that's why her father sent her to Mahant.. Means so many female visited there due to popularity of mahant and get trapped.
