We toured a Beneteau Swift Trawler 41 Fly at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to see if it would work for America's Great Loop. Watch to see what we thought!

The other great part about a bimini is that you can lay it back to get under some of the lower bridges on the loop, especially in the northern parts as you get into Canada. We’re looking to do the loop in about 5 years, we’re sailors more than powerboaters, and it’s a whole different vibe looking at trawlers. On the salesmen, yeah, they can be pretty awful to younger prospects, and as you said, they don’t have a clue what your situation is, and they shouldn’t treat ANYONE any differently based on age/race/orientation, etc. In the end, it will hurt their paycheck. 😊 God bless you guys!

Doing my own research: Besides the cost (70ish grand for a 36' Trawler) the older boats are just built more solid, as you said. The 80's trawlers were built like tanks. I think its better to spend 70ish grand and then put another 30 or so into it. You can customize it just the right amount. And you will have a very solid boat that will last for decades. Old boats like that are selling for physical value, the depreciation has long since evaporated. I just dont trust the new boats. Modern construction techniques just dont compare to the "old ways." Plus 600 to 800 grand is certainly not in the budget. Tip: Start looking into insurance details. It seems to be one of the biggest obstacles these days. I might have to take some courses at Chapman's in FL just to be able to get insurance since I have zero prior boating experience. (Tip for dark interiors - lights. And more lights. That can really change the interior feel of a darkish wood interior.)

It’s literally the perfect boat for the loop if you have 1 mill to spend. We are looking at the 52 Swift Trawler.

No such thing as the perfect boat for the loop! Always depends on lots of variables. There are better and worse, depending on your needs, but all boats have pros and cons.

Hello. Enjoying following your videos on your boat search for the loop. My wife and I are doing the same. We looked at the Beneteau 41. We didn't like the craftsmanship or the ladder to access the bridge. We have a Goldendoodle dog so that goes into our search. With the Beneteau a dogs may have a difficult time climbing that ladder. We found out boat, now to figure out how to pay for it. LOL. If you get a chance, tour the Ranger Tug 43 CB. Our goal is too purchase that for the loop. Keep the videos coming.

Funny how our dogs play an integral part in the search :) we're the same way and constantly thinking about how our goldendoodle will be able to maneuver around on the boat. We love Ranger Tugs! Our next video is actually on the 43 CB. Beautiful boat.

the R43CB is the most suitable boat I've found yet--other than the price! But hey, in 2-4 years--might be more reasonable! I've also heard of build quality issues (from brokers) on the Beneteau.

Bobby on Sailing Doodles is looking to sell his SeaRay in a few months. Might be the ideal price and size for your loop. He does a good job maintaining his equipment so you should have little if any maint to do at the beginning of your journey.

Interesting to hear your experience of being dismissed by one of the Beneteau staff, a real life "Pretty woman" experience. I was in high end sales for years and learned early on to NEVER do that, you treat everyone like they are the most important person you're talking to that day. The Golden Rule. I'm enjoying your content, good luck to both of you

We do live a wonderful life full of adventure, especially with where we're located in South Florida for Evan's job. However we are far from having unlimited financial assets. Sorry to confuse...we're not considering these boats from FLIBS, just love going to boat shows and wanted to tour some boats that COULD do the Great Loop in the million dollar price range. Our Great Loop boat budget is under $100,000 and will most likely be a boat built before 2000 :) We'll do some videos about how we plan to pay for the loop in the future! It will consist of both of us working and saving, but will not consist of any money from our family if that's what you mean. We are certainly blessed, but we're most definitely your average middle class couple
