I absolutely love burdock root and think of it as a very savory vegatable. Love to cook with it as a healthy alternative. I use boiled or cold infusion burdock as a stock for quick soups made with leftover bits of meat, pork or chicken. Add veggies and wallah. It is so versatile and delicious. As a medicine I like to tincture or drink cold infusion. Burdock is a wonderful blessing!

Thank you so much. I do have a question when can you harvest the root as I have seen different answers such as you can only harvest in the fall.
@HeidiVillegas
Жыл бұрын
The fall roots of the first year plant---this is the best time. But if you miss that window, early in the spring of the second year...before heavy growth starts will also work fine. If you let the plant mature to the flowering stage, the roots are SUPER tough---so much so you can hardly even cut them up.

Well, I'm not your herbalist---for these conditions, I'd need to have a consultation with you to learn more. Herbalists tend to work on root causes and not just treat symptoms. but there are many herbs and even essential oils that may help. Bitters for digestion are one idea. For COPD, I'd need a lot more info. I wish I could help more. Since I'm not a doctor, too, I can't provide medical advice...

Based on what another herbalist said, I've been cold brewing burdock and then using it as a base to my morning Chai tea. I'm wondering, though, if there's any way to still use the burdock after the cold brewed tea is made?
@HeidiVillegas
Жыл бұрын
You could tincture it in very high proof alcohol (195 proof), as that contains very little water....therefore the extracts would be soluble in alcohol as you've already infused it in water. Another thought is you could dry the marc (leftover herb) and powder it up to add to your smoothies. :-) Lots of great ways to get your burdock into you!

@BRANDYHAMILTONS
4 ай бұрын
@dawnrobertson3123 you would put it in a Mason jar, cover it with hot water (make sure the jar isn't too cold) and put the lid on... let it cool down to room temperature and then put it in the fridge overnight and then you have a nourishing cold herbal infusion ❤😊

@HeidiVillegas

If it was made and stored correctly with a high enough alcohol proof (over 25% alcohol), you'll be just fine using it. Tinctures will last indefinitely under the right storage conditions.

@HeidiVillegas
7 ай бұрын
I haven't heard about any contraindications, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Be sure to speak with a doctor about supplements to avoid. I do know Vitamin C is one you need to be cautious with, and burdock is rather low in that vitamin. But do some more research on this. I'm not a medical doctor, so I don't give advice on medical conditions. I also haven't sat down to have a consultation with you as a client, which involves a lot of information about your personal needs. You could find an herbalist in your area to work with you and your body'd specific needs---that is an excellent choice if you can do this.

I don't sell products online, but you might be able to find some at a good health store or a co-op where local herbalists have tinctures available. Gaia Herbs and HerbPharm are also two reputable companies, and they have online shops. Other small herbalists are set up on Etsy, but you'll have to make sure they're making them properly. The best thing is to just make your own!
Did I understand you to say that if I tincture burdock root, it will reduce the nutritional value to some extent because alcohol does a good job of extracting the minerals (12:43 - 12:51). But, that's what we want, right. The minerals are now in the alcohol.
@HeidiVillegas
4 ай бұрын
No, I said that alcohol does NOT do a good job extracting the minerals. The best way to get the full nutritional value of burdock root is to powder it and ingest some daily or use it in a nice decocted herbal tea.
