    All these things "bitters" do . . . and it's no wonder when you read old cookbooks and homemaking books, they often talk about "taking your bitters." Thanks for this information. 🧡

  • @HeidiVillegas

    @HeidiVillegas

    The peels will! They are all bitters. So lemon peel, tangerine peel, etc. It's the pith that's the powerhouse, and then you get the lingering flavors of the volatile oils (essential oils) that come from the outer part of the peel.

    Good morning from Ontario Canada Do you have any herbal remedies for ulcers Love your videos ❤❤

    Thank you so very much! The remedy would depend on where it is and what's causing it, but without knowing more, I can suggest looking into a combination of calendula, marshmallow leaf or root, yarrow, and Oregon grape root very strong tea. Take twice a day--a half cup or so. Calendula is a vulnerary and heals tissue; marshmallow is extremely soothing, yarrow is toning/tightening and overall healing to tissue; and Oregon grape root contains a very high amount of berberine, which has been shown to be helpful with ulcers. I hope it feels better soon! **Remember I am not a doctor, and this isn't medical advice...just info about the herbs. The FDA doesn't like herbalists making out to be docs. ☺

    Hi Heidi! There was a video you posted not too long ago about a star anise tincture... I tried looking for it again but I can't find it. I was wondering what the name of that video was and what would be the benefit of making a tincture rather than just putting it in a tea? Thanks! ❤

  • @HeidiVillegas

    Hi! I think that was someone else, but honestly, adding anise to tea is a GREAT idea and much easier on the body, too. Excellent for digestion. Anise makes a nice extract in alcohol for cooking, etc. It has mild medicinal properties....it's not super powerful for things like cold and flu as much as other herbs like oregano and thyme are, though. I really love it as a synergist in blends for teas and tinctures.

  • @HeidiVillegas

    I like to check small herb farmers first--- then next up are larger family owned farms like Foster Farms Botanicals and Oshala. Next up are the large bulk suppliers like Starwest Botanicals and Mountain Rose. ***PLEASE, if using orange peels, do be sure they're organic.

  • @HeidiVillegas

    @HeidiVillegas

    Ай бұрын

    Not as harmful as over-the-counter meds are! To be honest, you're only taking about a half a teaspoon or less for a typical adult dose. So you can see the negatives are negligible and the benefits far outweigh this one negative. Some people can't or don't like to take alcohol, and this is understandable. In that case glycerin and vinegar solvents can work too--you just may need to take more. :-)

    I take bitters daily, and have heard this recommended by many others. I do agree that you should take breaks from taking the same herbs for long periods because your body may habituate. But there are SO many bitter herbs and foods that changing things up isn't a problem.
