Benefits of a Basic Jeep JL Wrangler Sport

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Without question, Cindy and I absolutely love Moby, our 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited! We love that he's sitting on an EVO Double Throw Down suspension system, has Dynatrac ProRock axles, is running a set of 40" Nitto Trail Grapplers, has a big, loud and powerful Motech 6.2L LT V8 under the hood and is crazy capable out on the rocks or bombing across the desert. In fact, we love all our built up Jeeps including our 2018 JLUR and 2020 Gladiator and if only because they can take on just about anything as well. But, there is something to be said about the benefits of a basic Jeep. And, in this short video, I'll highlight a few of the things that I’ve been thinking about, ever since bringing home Pippi, our brand new 2021, JL Wrangler 2-Door Sport. Oh, and yes, there are clips of our Border Collie Ripley in this video.

I had grand plans to upgrade my Sport when I got it, but decided to wait 3 months to see what I may want. I took it up some steep mountain roads, ones that most SUVs would have major issues doing and did it with no real problems. I also got to enjoy how a stock Wrangler drove on the road. After the three months, I realized that the only thing I needed was better AT tires to meet my needs.

We started the Rubicon trail last month behind a team of Jeep engineers and their two completely stock Gladiators running full tire pressure. They were a lot slower than our group and let us pass, but their goal was to evaluate that part of the trail for the upcoming Jeep Safari.

A "basic" Jeep is way more awesome than most other vehicles. I bought a '21 JLU sahara, and while it's great having almost all the bells and whistles, the expense of the payments really limits my ability to customize it and mod it out. If I could do it over again, I'd but a lower trim for a lower monthly payment, and slowly and cheaply mod it out over time to meet my needs. Enjoy your new car!

You will love your new Gladiator! I don't have one, but I do have a 2012 Unlimited Wrangler Rubicon I've had since two months before taking delivery of it. (Yes, my Ruby was a factory order.) I dearly love my Jeep. This 2012 was my first Jeep. It was nine years since taking delivery of it this past April. The only problem I've had with my Rubicon was the factory navigation system, Jeep's mid-level offering in 2012, failed while Ruby was still under warranty. To this day there are no oil leaks under my Wrangler. You made a great choice. I believe you will grow happier with your new Gladiator the longer you've owned it. For Jeep lovers, THIS is THE best website, in my humble opinion. Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Hawaii.

These thoughts on a stock Jeep make more and more sense to me. I don’t own a Jeep, never have, I just want one to get further off the pavement so as to increase my opportunities for landscape photography. Originally I was thinking a four door, but do I really need all of that space. I’ve been driving MINI Coopers for twelve years so I already know what “packing lite” means… Thank you for reinforcing what I’ve been thinking.

Why buy an 'expensive' new Jeep! We have a 2015 2 dr sport manual.. people are always whining about how impossible it is to sleep inside. I'm 6-2 and I do. I figured out how to make the passenger seat fold flat to quickly make into a 6-4 bed. Two can sleep inside, the driver's side is shorter but if you're half cool and not an amazon, it's doable. I pack my ct90 on the trailer hitch, it's a great package with storage under. 👍👍

Old Jeeper, but new subscriber here and loving Pippi. Agree that there's definitely a place and time for built-up Jeeps, but Pippi's videos have a been a refreshing departure from all the attention given to build-ups. Even I was surprised at the Sport's capabilities and have been 100% satisfied with it's on- and off-road performance. Just goes to show that you can have a ton of Jeep fun without having to spend a fortune. Would love to see more videos of where you could take Pippi for an easy day of trails/overlanding in Southern NV, but no matter where she goes, I'll be watching! Thanks again for the great videos and keep 'em coming. We can't get enough! Happy Jeepin'...

This is the exact same Jeep that I bought my wife. 2019 Version of Wrangler Sport S. We opted for the Gas cap cover, Jeep spare tire cover and the running boards, but past that this is the same jeep she has (hers IS automatic to be honest). Been a WONDERFUL investment and after 40,000+ miles has not let her down. She tells me that day-to-day driving it is great and she rarely lets me drive the Jeep... Keep up the excellent content and I will show her this video! She took my 2017 Tacoma to work today so I am going to try the Roof removal while she is away today :))))

Have had my Gladiator Sport with the Max Tow package, Mopar rock sliders & aux switches since January. Everything I needed & could afford for a daily driver & hitting the trails 1 or two times a month here in northern Colorado. I added a 1.5" Teraflex leveling kit, 3/4" rear. JL Rubicon take off wheels & tires. I may add some additional skid plates. That's all I'll realistically ever need for a DD.

Had a Modded up ‘90 YJ, had fun doing it for 5yrs, was therapy for the mind on weekends. Then it became a job of always fixing and compensating for the mods and being in the shop. I now have a ‘14 & wife has a ‘17 JK stock and “enjoy” it more. I think once you get past the initial craze of adding everything/anything then realizing how gaudy it can look you end up stock.

Yes 2 Sport S in what I drive,,, might like a better LS in the back, different fends just for the look, and a bumper /winch up grade. beyond that I still have to drive to work each day, summer and winter.

I’ve done more in a stock truck with mildly aggressive tires than many folks will ever do with their modded out rigs. First priority with my new JLU was a winch and winch bumper. Second was a second set of wheels/tires for snow and mud. Third was armor underneath. I may lift it an inch or so front and 3/4” rear to make up for the extra weight, but that’s it. It will take me anywhere I need to go and spending many tens of thousands to gain a few percent more locations is not for me. No shade on those who want to make their rigs what they want - it’s your money, you do you. But few people actually need it, and only a very few will truly push a rig to its limits.

Without a doubt, you have the most informative Jeep Wrangler channel. Thank you for all of the time you put into it. Truly an example to follow. I have a 2010 Rav4 Sport V6, and have never owned a Jeep, yet, after seeing this video and one more about this new base model, I have subscribed. For the past year, I have schemed, planned, created Excel spreadsheets, and saved for a 4Runner TRD Off Road. And I haven't given up on it. But my gosh, you guys have turned my head with this video, and others you've created. You seem very honest, obviously Jeep-knowledgeable, and genuine. You very likely know the 4Runner has a better reliability record. I'm curious what it is about Jeeps that, for you, justifies buying so many of them? What can you share about the JL reliability? Thanks again - eyes opened - entertained - informed - thankful.

Thank you, we're happy to hear you enjoy our videos. I should note that I think Toyota's are great vehicles and used to own a 4Runner way back in the day. Part of the reason why I'm a Jeep guy is because I love the history of them. Also, there's a bit of nostalgia as well as it was my dad got me into them. However, the biggest reason why I love Jeeps or maybe specifically, the Wrangler, it's that they're so incredibly capable right out of the box. They have a solid axles, don't take a whole lot to get them running much bigger tires and maybe most importantly, they have an enormous amount of aftermarket support to do just about anything. As far as reliability goes, what I can tell you is that of the last 8 new Jeeps that I've bought and 4 that I still own, only 1 has had issues. That was a 2012 JKUR and it was soon after the 3.6L came out. Aside from that, ALL my other Jeeps have been problem free.

@@wayalife Thanks for your reply. Ah, thank goodness for all the dads getting us into something useful...most of the time :) Glad to hear about your good experiences with Jeep reliability. Seems to be hit or miss, but several other KZreadrs are saying the same. Maybe a few bad apples built up an undeserved mystique. That, and Consumer Reports. Anyway, I'm looking fwd to digging into your channel more. Pippi tackling the rocks at Last Chance Canyon blew my mind. Thanks again.

Drove my new 2024 JL Sport 4 door from Boise to Reno on one tank of gas (Meridian Costco, 91 octane) with 95 miles of range left. Today, made the reverse trip again on one tank (Reno Costco) and arrived in Meridian with 65 mile range left. According to the onboard computer, 27 mpg to Reno and 26 mpg to Meridian. I have yet to do any significant off-roading, other than Boise Ridge Road, which it handled just fine. I think the only mod I will do is a set of AT tires, and will stick to either the stock size (245/70r17) or maybe just a tad larger (255/75r17). My wife drives a 2 door Rubicon and I was initially envious enough to consider a lift. After watching this video, as well as the one of Pippi going off-road, in addition to my experience thus far, I will pass on the lift and any consideration of 33s.

My first Jeep was a YJ 2.5 5-speed. It had the nice 5-spoke Jeep alloys and the hardtop and hard doors. I don’t remember the exact price but it was around 14-15k out the door. In today’s money it’s roughly what a new Sport hardtop 6-speed with A/C. For that price today you’re getting twice the Jeep that YJ was in every measure.

I live in ND but didn’t grow up here. I absolutely hate driving on snow and icy roads in the winter. I hate getting “almost-stuck” in the snow and in thr muddy non-paved road whenever i visit family who live out in thr outskirts of town because they have a ranch. I think the wrangler would be perfect for me. Granted, i probably wont be taking it off-roading for leisure (but necessary off-road driving lol) and probably a mall crawler and it isn’t eco on gas but dang the idea of not being stuck during winter is very tempting

I've got a loaded out 4XE. But I'd love to get behind the wheel of an old CJ5, sometime. There's just something about an old shifter vibrating in your hand because it's literally connected to the transmission. And a steering wheel that's connected to a steering rack that's connected to the wheel assembly that just connected with a tree root and you can tell? Even better.

Any Wrangler trim can perform light to moderate off-roading in stock form (granted you're okay possibly causing some body damage on more difficult trails). Only reason to make major suspension modifications and buy enormous tires is if you're big into hard core off roading, or are okay with paying the extra money simply for the aesthetic. Most people who buy or lease Jeeps will rarely or never need to make major body modifications to meet their needs.

Good day, Enjoy your straight talk about Jeep life and modifications. Glad you do not use any profanity or have to beep out the videos. Very refreshing to watch. Help, I drowning with so many options for Jeep. I have a 2019 Sport Wrangler 2 door like your new ride, but with the eight speed automatic. Like to upgrade my tire size but keep the stock axles. I'm only planning to do trail driving to get back in the country for hiking and camping no hard rock climbing. Any new recommendations from all your years of off road adventures? Stay in the 35" size or go up to the new 38" Nitto's ? Maybe change to a coil over suspension system to handle the larger tires and ride. Need your wise view about this.

Personally, I would stick with 35's even if you don't do any hard rock crawling and mainly because anything bigger will leave your Jeep feeling under powered. Sure, you can regear but the ratio you'd want to would leave you with a very small pinion and that's just to bring you back to stock performance.
