I have always been a fan of old movies. I am 70 years old now so I have watched many movies. But this is one of the best movies I have ever seen! Carry Grant is the only actor that could have pulled this off. The story is sentimental and brilliant. What a joy. The collie dog was wonderful too. I cannot wait to watch this movie again with my wife next time. I am so happy that I stumbled onto this great film. And to think that I almost skipped over it. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

The moral of this movie could apply to today's medical profession, it's not about healing, today it's about profit. Healing takes more than a pill, it takes a doctor with a heart, not a prescription pad. These man made pharmaceuticals cause more problems than most of them are worth. Every actor in this movie was superb even down to the little pathetic professor Elwell! He made you dislike his character. I hope to see more movies of this caliber. @@E-Kat If you read the bios of most actors/actresses in the 1930s & 1940s, you'd know that they all came from "poor backgrounds." Bogart & his first wife, Mayo Methot, were from a wealthy, upper class background. Bogart's lisp didn't improve his upper class speaking pattern. If you did your research, then you'd know that the Hollywood Studio System provided vocal coaches to teach diction & proper talking along with others to teach proper walking, wearing the proper clothes & being seen at the right places with other studio actors at the beginning of their careers. The Studio System taught new actors how to talk, walk, act, see & be seen. Studios provided an in-depth education for every inexperienced, young, naive actor/actress who had to be "groomed" & "molded" to fit into the Studio's roster of "stars." Personally, I don't pay much attention to titles as they skip my memory but I understand the importance of the title, it's the way to quickly identify the movie. But I watch old films for the immense pleasure I derive from them and this film would be in my top five. I enjoyed it immensely and I was really surprised by how progressive it was, and so heartwarming. I wish I could be a part of the imaginary family of Dr Praetorius.

What an absolutely delightful movie. It has been brilliantly made & with careful consideration to that of Ethics, truth & lies. Had this matter happened today I'd like to think that the lady in question would be grateful of her shining Knight but extremely annoyed at his lying. Did the Dr really do a bad thing? I think not. Medical people take a vow of non-malficense but not that of falling in love. She understood what a sacrifice had been made but it was out of love & had she not been pregnant methinks he'd still marry her. No harm has been committed on that of compassion & love.

While the majority of films are copyrighted, there are many films that have become public domain films and are allowed to be freely shown without violating copyright laws. This is done to allow further exposure of the art of film making in years past. I have no idea if the films shown by Eternal Picture fall under "public domain", but I hope they are. I LOVE old, vintage movies considering most movies made today are trash. I do find it curious that the movie titles are not shown.

This movie, especially for the time it was made, tackled many moral and other the issues and did so in a subtle way that almost no one noticed such as, death, abortion, stigma of an unwed mother, hollywood black listing, religion, capital punishment and suicide. These issues were taboo at that time making this movie a brave masterpiece that snuck by as a comedy when it was actually so much more.

If you’re old and dying up here in Canada these days, they’ll sign you up for MAID to clear out a bed for other more ‘worthy’ patients. I’m exaggerating of course, but it’s certainly moving in that direction. 😢
