Beneath The Surface | Overlanding Mexico City's Chaos and Beauty

Join us as we traverse the enigma that is the largest city in North America.
Toyota World Runners vs. The Pan American Highway.
We're travelling in our custom Toyota Chinook, build in 100 days by TWR & Westcan Overland. The 1976 Toyota Chinook sits atop a 1996 FZJ80 Land Cruiser chassis, and powered by a Toyota 5VZ-fe. Find details about the build and our trip at www.toyotaworldrunners.com

At risk of repeating myself again, you are showing parts of Mexico I never knew existed. The millions of people, I assumed, but for some reason I pictured endless slums and much less culture. While there is a true belief in American exceptionalism, it also creates a block against realizing the world outside of America for what it is. Thank you both for opening my eyes. The yearning to build and create will hopefully never leave you. I will be 65 in a few months and tomorrow will find me pulling the fuel tank out of a 1989 Isuzu Trooper in an attempt to repair a leak. When you are dealing with a 30+ year old rig with limited supplies, most repairs involve creativity. I continue to wish you the best in you travels and still get a little giddy every time I see one of your new travel adventure videos pop up. Vaya con Dios my friends. By the way, it's becoming very obvious that Matt is doing much better with his Spanish studies than Stacy. How nice of you to allow him to be the interpreter.

Thank you for being a part of our journey as always. Our one day in Mexico City was truly a culture shock in and of itself. We witnessed the beauty, the chaos, the similarities and the wild differences to our world back home. We were left in awe not by nature for once, but the people and the city. Matthew should really be doing the whole video in Spanish at this point 😂

Hello from the sometimes sunny but lately rainy south Okanagan, thanks for the video. Honestly I'm torn as I watched this one, as it's fascinating on some levels, but that many humans in one spot might require me being heavily sedated. Family just got back from Japan and I had the same reaction to tales from Tokyo. :) Excellent volume and music choice again - kudos. Safe travels.

I love the interesting content, great edits & stunning photography of your videos! ...and I envy you for your awesome truck ;-) . I do have one, hopefully useful, feedback: please align to a general sound level hence have the same or at least similar volume for video clips, music, voice overs etc. Currently I have to adjust the volume dozens of times over the course of half an hour. I wish you loads of exciting adventures. If you are into water activities feel free to contact me once you've reached the Yucatan Peninsula - I'm a freedive instructor based in Puerto Morelos [ p.s. we have a nice brewery here ;-p ]

Matthew, man, you missed an real opportunity with that last question about your next dream--I believe the right answer involved a ring, one knee, and something about spending the rest of your life with that beautiful woman. She looks at you with such pure love... that was literally what flashed through my mind when she read out the question... I was rooting for you! With apologies, of course, because you two should do you and who knows if marriage is part of it and that's none of my business, but I just adore how Stacey looks at you with such love and that was in fact my immediate thought when she read the question. As you said in one of your videos, hang on tight to someone who looks at you like that!
