Benavidez vs Lemieux FULL FIGHT: May 21, 2022 | PBC on Showtime

Спорт

Two-time world champion David Benavidez defeats David Lemieux via third-round TKO to secure the WBC World Super Middleweight Interim Title.
Once again, undefeated David “El Bandera Roja” Benavídez didn’t disappoint the hometown crowd as the Phoenix native became a super middleweight champion for the third time in dramatic fashion, scoring a third-round TKO against former world champion David Lemieux to win the vacant Interim WBC World Title.
Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) beat and battered a gutsy Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs) from the opening bell knocking him to the canvas for the fifth time in his career midway through the second round on a massive uppercut that nearly sent Lemieux through the ropes. Lemieux somehow survived the onslaught of Benavidez’s power punches and returned to action in the third round. But Benavidez went right to work dishing out more and more punishment as Lemieux’s corner stepped in and signaled surrender to referee Harvey Dock, who waved off the fight with 1:31 remaining in the third round.
"Mike Tyson gave me the name ‘The Mexican Monster', what do you think I'm gonna do?” Benavidez told Jim Gray after the fight. “I just feel like I'm the strongest 168 pounder. No one can mess with me.
Benavidez staggered Lemieux in the closing seconds of round one, the big blow a left hook that sent Lemieux into the ropes with Benavidez pouncing with a 10-punch combination of uppercuts, hooks and straight jabs. Dock later said he was about to stop the fight had the bell not rung to end the round.
"Lemieux is a special type of breed,” said Benavidez, who landed 49 percent of his total punches and 52 percent of his power punches. “This guy was swinging until the end. I had to be on my p's and q's. He's a tough champion, so my hat's off to him. He's the only one with the guts to face me.”
Lemieux never backed down and told Gray he was impressed with Benavidez. "I'm good, Benavidez is a hell of a fighter,” Lemieux said. “I congratulate him. After the first round I was okay, he had gotten me with some good shots. I tried to come back, but he's a very good fighter.”
Benavidez said he wants the best the 168-pound division has to offer. "I'm waiting for all those top guys to send me the contract. They know what's up. I’m right here waiting for them. I'll put myself up against everyone. I guarantee I'm knocking everyone out.
"I can get better everywhere. You can always learn. It only gets better from here. I'm just going to keep working. Facing tough guys like Lemieux just pushes me to keep moving to the next level."

Very surprised it wasn’t stopped sooner than it was. Credit lemuiex for continuing to throw and not giving up. He got heart but when you are in there as an older guy against a young lion who literally dosent stop coming towards you, eventually you succumb to the pressure. Benavidez is a beast!

Benavidez had size, speed, reach, power, youth... everything. Lemiuex is a soldier. Not a fan of Benavidez for this fight because it was such a mismatch. But on the flipside a lot of guys just aren't getting in there with Benavidez. So he's kind of up shits creek for matchmaking. I can't really fault Benavidez but also I'm not really a fan until he actually gets in there with someone on his level.

First fight Ive seen of Benavidez and I don't think he could win vs Canelo. Im assuming he's an always moving forward fighter like GGG is and Canelo is good at countering. He could rock him in a second and make him fight off his backfoot and gets him out of his rhythm 🤔

  • @DeanDangerousTDD7

    @DeanDangerousTDD7

    20 күн бұрын

@@CompaDeArranke You should watch some more of David's prior fights because nothing so far in any of his previous fights shows that he would have any problems having to fight off of his backfoot. David's hand speed & power combined with his accuracy when picking his shots on an opponent attempting to cover up is what combat sport fans like myself see. We just want boxing politics to either compromise & start making fights between fighters that the fans want to see or get on out the way & allow a new generation of promoters & mangers take over. David is also a fierce finisher who is genuinely always entering fights with the plan to KO his opponent instead of some of the other boxers that we see who always talk about KO'n their opponents but once the fight actually happens. Their performance shows something else. (a decent example of that can be seen in the Shawn Porter vs Terrence Bud Crawford fight. Porter was talking about WAR & KO's but once his bull rush smother game failed. He instantly became a fighter looking for a hopeful decision victory. TBC on the other hand. He did his thing like always & that thing was this, he went into the fight genuinely wanting to KO Porter & that is exactly what he eventually ended up doing.) I just think that it will be a shame if boxing politics get in the way of David fighting the best while he is still healthy & in his prime fighting years. American Intermediary Documentary 5/8/2024

I was genuinely more impressed by the toughness and pure guts of Lemieux than anything else in this fight. Not being a hater it’s just you could tell the natural size difference so much it’s hard to give benavidez too much credit. Not many fighters could take that punishment and still be prepared to throw everything they have left back.. very remarkable.

@@st.pierre2188 It would have been way more competitive because Lemieux was in his primer and was a legit knockout artist. I hear ya but It was done bro, and we.know too much about CTE. Noone wants to see someone go out on their shield unnecessarily or get humiliated and beat up for no reason. Unless a perso. hates the fighter (maybe he slept with that person's Mrs I dunno) then I think most boxing fans stop finding enjoyment in it, except for a couple of sadistic assholes, the spectacle is over, especially when it becomes so evident so quickly we are dealing with a genuine mismatch, and even the elusive punchers chance is practically gone. This was 99.9% chance going to end with Lemiuex savagely knocked out cold in the next round or suffer a prolonged humiliating beating with broken body and head in which he was too tough to give up. Either way no need for it. Mercy is appropriate, no shame in it, one of the few things our generation got right.

Lemieux has power. The tactics here was simple and kind of desperate. Trying to use this power to finish Benavidez in a short time, maybe 5 rounds. After that, he knew he would be fucked because of the extreme reach advantage and better skill of Benavidez. But, in front of him he got a young man, not as stupid as he seems to be and more powerful and relentless as he would ever imagine. The result is that Lemieux survived only on heart and thanks to a few shots he managed to get into the average defense of Benavidez. That being said, Benavidez is young and very tall and massive for this category and Lemieux is old and never been a good technician, which makes it a real mismatch. Benavidez needs to fight real opponent now.
