You touched on this when you said people don't think Cristine is intelligent just because she has a 'goofball' internet persona. But I feel like whenever a girl has long painted nails, a love for makeup, a taste for fashion and they care about 'materialistic things' people assume they are not clever... And i think that's a good topic for the body image pod cast..

It goes for any trait, be it humor or fashion or weight. I'm sarcastic and witty and fairly intelligent, but if I make a comment or joke that goes against something someone I am talking to feels is "right" (to them) the 'stupid fatass' comments come out immediately. It's easier to dismiss and reduce anyone you do not agree with to the most obvious cutting insult to close communication without having to continue being uncomfortable or learn something.

I know this was a more “negative” podcast, but I think it’s so refreshing to hear people, especially influencers, discuss issues like toxic masculinity and gender equality. We often don’t think of these other view points (Ben discussing how the Kardashians affect women’s views of their bodies) when approaching these issues. So a long winded thank you! ALSO: I really appreciate the introduction of your podcasts to your online presence. As a long time fan, I appreciate getting to witness these more relaxed, in-depth conversations. To ben: I'm a kpop fan (not hardcore but i do stan some groups) and yes, i can say, i can sit in my room listening to super hyped up music lol 😂. I don't blame ben for not understanding why people like this genre, altho i will say that kpop isn't just about loud super high energy music. Think of kpop as an umbrella term, there's all sorts of kpop genres, including ballads and soothe-sounding ones. There are even ones that sound super jazzy. What you were shown when you were featured in that reaction channel (yes i watched that too) was just a chunk of kpop. Altho if you still don't understand or like kpop it's alright dad you can like whatever you want no one's gonna judge haha 🤗😊😂 As for the twitter profiles i don't really have an excuse for that i was also guilty at one point lol, it's just our way of showing appreciation to our favorite people, probably in a similar way that one person who commented in your tweet has your face as a profile picture Altho understandably it does sound creepy lol this is in no offense to my fellow kpop stans out there haha 😅😂

That needs to be freaking told to everyone. I’ve made jokes online and I remember in the past it was popular to tell women to “get back to the kitchen”. Or they were surprised I was female/funny, attractive/funny... or I’m subscribed to a guy’s channel that has more of a male fan base and guys are surprised I like this humor. Like you can’t look feminine and be funny. Or else you get labeled as a “tomboy” (which mostly during quarantine I have worn almost no makeup but still do my nails). I was using a totally neutral username on a funny memes app (way back in middle and high school) and I was one of the most popular users/posters. We were such a tight knit community that one day that users were invited to send in a real picture of what they actually looked like to the app admin, and they would create a collage of our pics by username alphabetical order. Me and this one other girl (who I also assumed was a guy by her username) were in the top ten users and it was just such a surprise to everyone. Like omg she’s a girl and she’s pretty and funny?! Yeah, a sense of humor isn’t that hard to obtain lol I have a master’s degree and like puns/dark humor/intelligent humor/topical humor:/etc. and the occasional fart joke. And I love eye shadow and nail polish.

If it helps, remember that the books were written in a certain place and time and that the values expressed within say something about the culture at that time. Just like its possible to enjoy Shakespeare plays even though they feature anti-Semitism and so on. As long as you are critical about the negative parts, there is no reason why you can't still fondly remember the good parts. Like Rowling grew up in a predominantly white area and wrote a book which is based in a school in a predominantly white part of the UK. She grew up whilst there was a lot of tension over in Northern Ireland which colours how she writes the Irish characters in the book. The few POC that are there have very generic/"exotic" names and in the area she grew up, most POC will probably have come from the common family names or will have adopted names which could be anglicised somewhat so end up with the same kind of family names that way. Does it excuse the racism? No, but it explains it. She could have chosen to write her fantasy magic school in an entirely different fantasy world and would have avoided a lot of issues in doing so. But she chose to try to make it a secret part of the real world. And in doing so ended up including real world details which were very problematic. Basically you don't have to agree with or enjoy the negative stuff she wrote in those books to enjoy the books. There are still good messages in there like trying to fight against supremacists who want to exterminate a group of people. Its kinda ironic that a book which preaches a message of fighting racism still ended up being racist in other ways.

@@AlexaFaie I can't speak for OP, but at least when I first saw their comment I thought of all the transphobic stuff Rowling has been saying lately. As someone who grew up on HP it's frustrating too see her doing this because it feels like she's just saying shit to try to stay relevant? Like it's the same with her teasing the idea of Dumbledore being gay, or Hermionie being racially ambiguous. But then instead of facing the crowds for the shit she's saying, she reposts all these kids drawings to hide her controversial stuff. Honestly I just wish she would get off twitter and chill in her mansion with her millions of dollars. There's no reason why she needs to be 'relevant' anymore and she's not doing herself any favors.

I feel bad that we’re painting Ben as a hateful person when that’s what we’re asking of him to be. I feel like we know that he’s obviously not hateful but I feel like we’re unintentionally contributing to this impression that anyone with a critical eye and justified points is seen as a pessimist, grouch, or “mean adult” I guess? We’ve legitimately asked him to complain rather than discuss anything else that makes up a human. He’s a quiet, thoughtful guy just trying to pet his cat. 😔

It is also really important to hear the other side of your opinion to confirm that you truly don’t like that idea. I would say no one is ever going to find someone that you agree perfectly (option and degree to which it matters) with on literally everything, so this definitely makes me feel less anxious to hear discussions about important topics. @@deidrebetts2936 it's an issue in all genders, but like men stated "the world would be a nicer place if men expressed their emotions" and that's true. we'd have less abusive males in relationships. but at the same time, women need to be recognized as able to have all emotions too. women get overlooked as rapists, abusers, and more just because we're women and men are automatically assumed as those things. the fact that school shooters in all the lectures they do in school (i'm from the USA) they always portray the shooter as male. and yes maybe they are always male i wouldn't know cause i didn't do research, but it always bothered me. like how women are portrayed weak in a lot of areas, men are expected to be strong and when they aren't it can cause issues. but those two issues don't outweighs transgender issues or whatever other issues genders face. the world would a lot nicer place if people would just listen to each other's issues and work through it to fix it.

The difference in what the media is portraying within that spectrum says alot as to why Ben might think that way. The west generally consume most of the upbeat, bubblegum and intense music the various groups release while ballads, r&bs and others are mostly left behind. This can be seen in artists who specializes on ballads and others - although some do get enough recognition however the major factor is if they collabed with someone else who is already popular in the west and specializes in upbeat songs.

Regarding the least favourite things about being a man, I feel like feminism is also about helping men to embrace their feelings and emotions and that’s great. Because crying is not a girly thing and being angry is not the only way men can express themselves

Ben, if it makes you feel better about the paint stripper, my labmate once spilled dichloromethane (aka DCM the main solvent used in the product) all over herself and has not had any adverse effects. The real risk for immediate health impacts comes from actually ingesting it or getting it under your skin - that can cause serious harm. As far as just having some come in contact with your skin, it probably won’t have that much of an effect. There is a risk of liver cancer associated with DCM, but that mainly only occurs when someone is consistently breathing in the fumes for long periods of time. TDLR - DCM can be nasty but most likely did not cause any harm in the context it was used it. It is highly irresponsible for a company to use it in a consumer product though, since there is such a high potential for serious injury.

Cristine is my type of introvert. She is comfortable with whom she trusts, which is few people. I’m the same plus I have to get good vibes off of people to like them. She also doesn’t share much personally, which I don’t either, but I respect that. I still think she’s shy, but it’s easier to be honest in more intimate settings.

I thought the testing “paint stripper nail remover” was entirely valid just for the fact I know it deterred at least 1 person from purchasing, the right message was sent out and the platform was used in a good way. Though I can understand why somebody who was not aware of what was going on their nails before it happened would not be happy after disclosure.
