I love how colbert realizes that his guest is nervous and talking too fast and starts talking extra slow himself to slooooow everything down. He is helping his unexperienced guest in a very respectful way. Nice one Stephen.

Colbert also goes in and closes the gap, and just looks at him in his eyes as to isolate the guest and the host, like its just the two of them having a conversation with the audience to calm him down and get him settled in the new environment.

Or, yes, perhaps something he's picked up from playing Evan for so long. I'm always amazed at how he can maintain such good diction while talking so fast though! haha.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the original cast's contracts are up in November. After that they can choose to stay, join the national tour, or go on to other projects. But I'm sure the show will still be running and a great cast will be in place. Tickets are available at the box office every day for standing room and partial view seats - though that's just about 20 tickets so they go immediately. But if you get there early (6am) you can likely get a ticket when the box office opens at 10am.

I’ve been rewatching DEH on Behind the Curve’s channel and let me tell you, it’s gonna take me like a week to get through it cause i just keep ugly crying. No other play has ever moved me quite so much. DEH and Ben Platt’s performance particularly will always hold a special place in my heart
I have said the SAME THING, as Stephen did, to anyone I could. I cried at the first song and did not stop until the end! I was like a limp dishrag by the time I was walking out the Exit! Ben’s voice is ethereal!
I cried for a whole afternoon listening to his rendition of Joni Mitchell’s River”. Amazing voice.
I love the voice he does when he says “he’s looking at us! He’s looking!”
i wonder if ben ever thought he'd be saying "hyper-connectivity" so often
I love when he laughs his entire face scrunched up! It's so adorable!!
Ben platt is just so adorable and authentic and such a beautiful human filled with so much talent and love
still can't get over how great Colbert's glasses are. also Ben Platt is fantastic (and his suit is great in this video).
The sneeze story made me love this man even more
If I won the lottery the first thing I would do is fly to NYC to see Ben Platt and the amazing, incredibly talented cast of Dear Evan Hansen. (crosses fingers, toes and everything). What a brilliant show
I love how Ben talks with his hands. So expressive and precious!
This guy put on one of the best, if not THE best, performances I've ever seen on a Broadway stage. Absolutely unbelievable. He deserves the Tony.
Ben Platt: A Jewish man who once played a Mormon on Broadway...
Just saw the touring musical last weekend. My husband and I related so much to the parents in the story. A beautiful tearjerker.
HE'S JUST SO LOVELY I-
I saw one episode of The Politician and Ben Platt's version of one of my favorite song 'River' devasted me. I've been watching and shedding tears every time. He is a force to reckon with. Authentic!
Many of us had no clue who he was..But after the charming way he complimented Stephen he stole everyone's heart.... =)
Honestly Ben Platt makes me so happy. He's such a gift to this terrible world
Everytime i rewatch something with Ben in it i just cant handle his pureness. What did we do to deserve him?
He's sort of awkward in real life, and he definitely channels that into his performances.
Ben talks so fast when he's nervous my poor son ;_;
I was lucky to see Ben and the original cast of Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway in 2016. I, too, cried from the opening number until I was out of the theater. One of the most emotional theater experiences I have ever had. Ben is a revelation!
A perfect song...A perfect singer...A perfect sweetness in the air...
Does Evan Hansen talk really fast because Ben Platt does, or has Ben Platt been playing Evan so long he's picked up Evan's speedy nervous cadence of speech? We may never know.

I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I FOUND OUT
ben speaks so fast and his thoughts are all over the place and he stumbles over his words so much and if that aint me
Bless his heart he's so sweet
Ben Platt is just such an amazing person. He is so kind-hearted and true and if everyone in the world was like him, the world would be a wonderful and safe place
"everybody can find a piece of themselves in him" me, first time i saw the musical: *hey that's 100% me*
Ben Platt is a cinnamon roll that needs to be protected
you know ben has embraced the role completely even having some of evan's mannerisms amazing actor and singer!!
it honestly amazes me how incredibly humble Ben is
