Ben Lomond Track: Alpine Tramping (Hiking) Series | New Zealand

The Ben Lomond Track, a 6-8 hour return trip, is a challenging day walk that takes you from downtown Queenstown to the summit of Ben Lomond. The track’s accessibility makes it a popular activity for people visiting the area. However, it’s a tough 1400m climb that ventures into an alpine environment. To safely complete this track there are a few things to know before you go. In this video we take you all the way up Ben Lomond and show you how to prepare a great day out and make it home safely.

I love this series, as a foreigner who has visited NZ twice for a total of 9 months I have been to many of these places and your videos take me right back. I climbed Ben Lomond the way you shouldn't back in 2015. started to hike in the afternoon with bad equipment, sun was already quite low when we left the summit. On the way down I stumbled and injured my hand. After first aid treatment at the upper gondola station I ended up in Queenstown hospital to have the wound properly cleaned and stitched back together. Still I remember this as a fun time!

I climbed Ben Lomond today! It's a wonderful experience to witness the Ben Lomond Summit PANORAMIC view of the mountain. It is not the mountain we conquer, But ourselves too! We started at the skyline access road we spent almost 7hrs.Thank you QT New Zealand #PHILIPPINES

Did this hike last week, the weather was not good but I still enjoyed the view from summit. It took me 2 hours from gondola, 1 hour to the saddle and another 1 to summit. I think I’m pretty fit and hike a lot, just want to say the 2nd part of the hike is much more challenging than the 1st. Need to be very careful on your footing as this part of the track is not maintained and is very steep

Fantastic video. Lovely throwback. However, the 6-8 hours return trip can be misleading for people in a hurry who just wants to squeeze it in. Here's a reference for you: In nice November weather I spent 2 hours and 11 minutes reaching the peak from the bottom of the Gondola and my general shape was in the ballpark of running 10k at just below 50 minutes. I did not run or jog on the way to up to make that time, I just kept a steady march. Bring water og carbs for the refuel.

Hi, very informative and important video. I wonder whether the dashed line from 2:52 is rather the "beeched as" intersection Mountain Bike trail instead of the walking path. I assume the junction you mention is on the lower right hand side, only seen for a very short time. Queenstown Mountain Bike Club may be able to confirm. However, it still makes the point.
