There's one lad that the pundits, fans and journos aren't talking about enough... Phillip. Walter. Foden... He has two assists and a goal in TWO games and is the first england player to get TWO assists in a game since David Beckham. WHY are we not talking about the lad more after that performance last night????

I would be very disappointed, don't know why were downplaying expectations... yes, France are current holders but Kane is the best striker in the world and in every position I look at bar LB or LW where Theo and Mbappe play, we are a better side, simply.

Agree with everything. Southgate is overhated. So is Pickford, he's been brilliant for Everton for 2 years and brilliant for England for about 5.

Brilliant result, starting to look like a team that will be feared by the other top teams. Our best chance of getting to the semi finals is keeping Mbappe quiet, if we can do that then I think the quality in our attack will see us through. Bring on France in the quarters!

I love Southgate as manager, he’s been in our position, he has felt the pain of loosing to penalties. what he has done to the team is phenomenal, from a team that was almost a joke, constantly out in either the group stages of RO16, to a team that really can win trophies and tournaments.

The problem I have with Jude, is that he doesn't stay in his position enough. Last night he showed it twice. In the first half he was in the way of Foden most of the 45 minutes and he stopped Foden getting the ball. Second half he did the same to Mount and he was quiet in the last game and the first half of yesterday's game. Best player on the pitch for me was Phil Foden, two assists in one game in the World Cup and he DOESN'T get the Player of the Game??? WHO is giving these awards out??

What about foden? He got 2 assist involved in the other he always keeps the ball well. You didn’t say fodens name once.

I feel like people are under rating fodens performance tonight because Bellingham gets more attention Just finished watching and you legit didn’t even mention him when he was involved in every goal and got two assists lol

Hey Spen, I know you read my comment during the live stream, but I can't stress enough about how people are sleeping on Fede Valverde. Okay, he's 24, but we're discussing current ability. I'm not actively watching BVB's games, I must admit, but based on every England fan's reaction with Bellingham's performance in today's game, I can definitely tell that you haven't watched Fede play. I'm not arguing just for the sake of the argument, but I am genuinely impressed with Valverde's performances during the past 2 years (he was having performances similar to Jude's today about 3 years ago). When the leagues start again, I urge you to watch only a couple of Real Madrid games and you'll see what I'm talking about. The way that guy just DOMINATES all the pitch (sometimes even from a RW position 🤯) simply blows me away. I consider myself lucky because he's playing for my favorite team, but he's a real treat to watch 👍. He simply leaves it all on the field and he plays with such passion and love for his club. As for England's chances against France, I don't know, it's really hard to tell. It's the kind of game which can really go either way. Mbappe is known for going missing in big games where the opponent has enough fire power to outscore his team, so that might also happen if England's midfield manage to annihilate their French counterparts. As a neutral, I'd really like to see a high scoring game with several changes of tides, but I know that's somewhat unlikely (knowing Southgate's philosophy). Maybe if England go into the half time break trailing by 2 goals, they could be shooting for a comeback with an all out attack strategy in the 2nd half. That would definitely be a treat to watch. If I absolutely had to chose, I'd like England to go through just because I'm not a big fan of what Mbappe did last May, and I would not want him to be officially crowned as Ballon d'Or after this World Cup 😒. I'd rather have English people chanting "It's coming home" and talk about Bellingham as Jesus's 2nd coming 😂.

How anyone can be anti-Southgate given his record is beyond me. I can understand criticism of his tactics in certain games and having a whinge when we lose but lets get serious. He's won more games in tournament football than any other England manager.

@@disclaimer.imjokin that’s all well and good but I’m sure the Croatians and the Italians were saying the same thing about us. “There for the taking” makes it sound like both those teams were lacking talent or much of a chance against us…that’s not true on either account. He made mistakes in both games tactically but I’m an armchair pundit…I’ve never had to be in that position and as such, I don’t have much right to question his credentials.

People (me included) had a problem with Southgate because he was playing with 5 defenders when he had all these young exciting players that didn't get a sniff because there either wasn't enough attacking spots or they didn't fit this defensive system, he seemed too cautious and scared to go for games to ever win anything. I don't care if we go out as long as we go out with pride and go for it, I'm not going to hate the manager for that. If Southgate was playing every game with 5 at the back I would still be Southgate out but he's adapted, I'm not saying he can't play 5 at the back at all but he was doing it against teams where we were much better than them which was frustrating. All I needed was a sense of adventure and willingness to attack from him and he has shown he's able to do that.

@@mattm.4556 the first assist wasn’t anything he did, it was Bellingham that dribbled through their midfield then Foden just touched it, the 2nd was good but aside from that 1 run he did nothing - same as grealish. Nothing of note but gets load of plaudits. Baffling

Whatever happens in the next game, Southgate deserves respect

There's every chance Southgate plays a 5 at the back with Trips as RB and Walker as a CB and I'm here for it!

Any thoughts on this being best time to have world Cup? In past, top players would have been playing for top clubs with intensive games for clubs in leagues and cups till just before WC carrying injuries or tired. This time, they're all fresh

No he didn’t 😂… it’s not a “routine” save, just because he didn’t need much athleticism to stop the ball doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard. The power on that shot was pretty high meaning he had to react incredibly quickly. A lot of keepers I reckon would’ve been half a second or slow too late and would’ve ended up conceding.

I usually enjoy watching England bottle it a big tournaments after overhyping their team because they beat Ukraine or Colombia, but to be fair lads im rooting for you guys next game because it would be great for football for the arrogant French to lose, so just give Bellingham the rains and pray.

@Revanchist806 no football team has a divine right to beat anyone else, id argue Croatia had as many world class players as us in 2018, we had kane and at very least they had modric and some very good players around him

I am a southgate backer but he should not be respected for what he’s done. Talking about the minimum expectation as a point this tourney is invalid. We should have beaten that croatia team, anything after that is fair. We should’ve won that italy game but he was an inferior manager. This WC, I agree it is not expected of him to do more but I don’t think he should be necessarily celebrated for winning games we should be winning and then losing games we shouldn’t be losing.

Southgates just lucky he’s prob got one of the best international squads when most other countries have fallen off a cliff
