Belleayre Mountain: Lift 7

This Riblet triple is now the oldest lift at Belleayre. It replaced I believe a Roebling double in 1986. It is 2720 feet long and climbs 806 vertical feet. It's located in the middle of the ridge at the top and serves trails that aren't well served by the gondola or Superchief. The capacity is 1800/hr at a top speed of 500 fpm. In this recording, it was going much slower at only 375 fpm.
When built, this was the workhorse lift of the mountain. It was the first to open and last to close, and it ran in the summer for scenic rides. When the Tomahawk and Superchief quads were built in 1999, this lift saw reduced importance mid season, but still was used for early/late season ops. This increased further when Superchief was converted to a detachable in 2006. Starting in 18-19, the gondola is now the lift that opens first, and the summer lift, so this lift doesn't run as much or get the ridership it used to.

I know the guys who run this lift on the regular, they are really nice (Jim and Ray). Jim worked at Highmount and went to Belleayre upon it's closing. He was originally a snowmaker and then converted to a lift operator. He has little recollection of the previous lift there, he thinks it was the first lift running that line although trail maps show a lift there before 1986, not providing a name, just having it vaguely marked as a triple. He was there when the lift first opened, saying that the lines went up expressway and to the bottom of the hill. Now, with Superchief and the gondola, this lift is an "insider's secret", no lines with the best trails (My personal favorite being Utsayantha to Big T Glades). Although no longer the first to open (That title was snagged by the Gondola due to it's ability to service Deer Run top to bottom), it is typically the last to close. There is a rumor circulating that this lift is to be removed and replaced with a high speed quad starting at the previous base of 1 and 2. Hopefully this doesn't happen for obvious reasons.

Well this will probably a taste of what I’ll be seeing in Breckenridge on Friday, and let us not forget Snowflake. I didn’t realize how weird that grip looked with the jaws being so hard to see.

Well I did a bit more research and turns out that this lift replaced Lift 3, a Roebling double built some time in the 60s and likely similar to the old Lifts 6 and 7 (Replaced by the Tandem 1&2). In addition to trails serviced by the current Lift 7, it served Algonquin, Peekamoose and Seneca via the Ridge Trail (And so did the current 7 until 1999) which is now abandoned.

They need to run it more. Typical ORDA. How redundant is it with the gondola? I’ve heard it’s still very useful for lapping the terrain though.

@@pinnacleskier0552 It's good somewhat. There are never lines, but the gondola crowd overpowers the terrain. It's usually an hour after opening until everything is iced up.
