Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here's my hands-on review of the Bell & Howell Tac Light Lantern. Tests include a drop test, battery life, claims that it can work underwater, how well it illuminates a room, and being frozen for several hours.

Excellent review. I work graveyard shift and have to work outdoors in near pitch black conditions. This lantern does what it is supposed to do, and it definitely makes my job easier. I have heard many complaints about mail order, though, so I would advise buying it in a brick-and-mortar store rather than mail order. I wasn't concerned about magnets, but the one I bought does have three magnets built in, and they work fine. Overall, I'm satisfied with the $15 price I paid for this.
I bought mine not too long ago and I love it. I watched this video before I bought it and decided it was worth a try. It works perfect. Its very bright and turns off when I slide it down. No complaints here.
Very good review! I especially liked the fact that you mentioned how long the battery life lasts. That's what I wanted to know before I purchased one.
Thanks for testing the product out and sharing info.
I figured the outer "lens" not being watertight was cost-saving measure, so they wouldn't have to waterpoof the entire housing, just the batteries and wiring. I was really hoping you'd open the battery compartment afterwards and check whether any water got in there.
Love your reviews and the additional information you provide!
I met up with an old friend on a WY elk hunt a few weeks ago, and his girlfriend sent me a gift package with a TacLight flashlight, a TacLight lantern, and a great hat with LEDs in the brim. The lantern she gave me has three magnets and a recessed, flip out hook on the bottom. I had a power outage earlier this week, inverted the lantern and flipped out the hook, and hung it from my ceiling fan in the living room. I have to say the light output was impressive from a three AA light, and the 360* coverage lit up the room really well. My power was restored after 4 hours, and it was still shining brightly at that time. I wouldn't use this light in harsh conditions, but for an emergency light in the home it definitely has a place. I will be buying several more to add to my "preps" because of it's light output and energy efficiency. Basically, it's a pretty good bang for the buck in that situation.
Great review! Just picked one up on clearance for 7 bucks. Super bright. I like it!
TacLight and Atomic Beam lantern. The same thing just rebranded. BUT these are well worth the money. A way to improve this is to have a dimmer function. The more you slide it open, the brighter it gets.
Bought 2 at Walgreens and am happy with them so far, will be good emergency light in hurricane prone FL where I had power out for a week after hurricane Matthew a few months ago. Only concern I guess is the 'magic switch' that turns it on when you open it.

Just picked up my husband a 2pack of magnetic ones. Needed a video for reference. Thanks!!
My dad bought one when I was 14 and i remember just opening and closing it and feeling like I was opening up a secret power source in a secure vault so in my opinion it's a decent product but the entertainment value is very much worth it
Thank you for the excellent review!

Thanks, and Zeppelin is definitely a favorite!
I have two and they're great, they throw a lot of light and are well made of tough plastic. I bought mine at Giant Tiger for $20 each. I've heard that people buying them over the internet are sometimes scammed and get cheaper imitations. I like to see and feel things before buying them, just like trying on a hat before buying.

Love your review. How much more is it with the magnets?
I bought two of these lanterns. I used one of the lanterns to light an area that I was plumbing. The lantern fell from the ledge it was sitting on, from a hight of about two feet. That's all it took to break it. I don't think it's getting a proper connection while it's being opened, because the light will flicker, and the go out, if you move it. Most of the time the light won't turn on at all. The real test is to drop it while the lantern is open, and fully lit. I broke mine in less than 15 minutes after taking it out of the box. I would not recommend buying this product.
Thanks for your review. It certainly was helpful. I just bought two on Ebay for less than was advertised on TV (just under $17, free shipping, to arrive in one week). You provided enough positives for me to want this item. So it didn't do so well when submerged in water. That's OK. I don't need it to do that. If it is water resistant, that's enough. It appears durable and easy to walk around with. I think it would be good for power outages and camping-type situations. Thanks for your efforts.
I ❤ all your reviews!!! I wanted to buy this.

Very good review. I am curious though. Have you tried any others besides this and the atomic? Do you have a personal recommendation for an led lantern? Thinking of getting one for my Dad. Hes in Real Estate but also does many home repairs on some of his rentals. Often he has to crawl under sinks or other various places that would require extra light, but also would free up both hands to work. Not to mention hes getting up there in age. Thanks again oh and subscribed.

Not for a video, but I've tried a couple of no-name lanterns, and really they're all about the same. There are some higher-end name-brand ones out there, too. For the situation you described, I actually like the Atomic Beam Headlight quite a bit. Have you considered that?
when are you making the separate video comparing this bell & howell and the atomic beam side by side??
I got one for 13 bucks on Amazon and I love it for camping/fishing. I take this with my Mora companion and I'm good to go!
My son left this on for hours and now it is very dim. I cannot find replacement bulbs. Do you know if these are available?
I just ordered one online for $19.99 & they added to it & charged me $76.99 ...be careful who you order from ...Looks like its worth $20 ..Thank you for your Review

Dan Simpson I ordered from the commercial. It was a recording and I gave. my card and info and then they talked about adding more and I could not get a human to cancel. I wanted buy one get one free. Instead they sent 5 charged me $89 . Lied to the bank when I put a comaint in and I was denied myoney.back. I sent then the 5 Tac Lights back and I am ripped off. They have my money and their Tac Lights. I put another complaint in. PEOPLE DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL AND YOU CANT GET A SUPERVISOR. READ HOW THEY SCAMMED PEOPLE ON LINE. They are not Bell n Howell original reputable company. Customer service is nasty. Rip Off guys. A scammer company. BEWARE.
This thing looks pretty neat. My biggest problem is buying expensive batteries for this little guy. I'm happy with my Milwaukee M12 lantern. I have quite a bit of M12 cordless tools. Got a few batteries that have lasted a year or two. It's not a problem for me to pop a fresh battery in to my M12 lantern and be on my way. In an emergency, I don't have to scramble to stores and buy two 2x AA battery packs for $5 a pack.
I have a tac lantern and overall its great. What i dont like about it is that you can only adjust the amount of light by closing it. closing it only limits the light escaping the enclosure and not actually dimming the light. It be great if they added a real 3 setting dimmer as well as having it close. it save batteries in a major way.

I've bought a batch of headlamps that had the multi level dimmers, I found out the hard way that the dimmed modes ended up with an unfunctional unit after running about 1 hour straight. They dim by oscillating or pulsing the light on and off. If the light is off 1/2 the time it will be 1/2 the brightness, but this trickery comes at a price, a fancy bit of circutry between the battery and the led bulb. A simple on- off switch, in this case hidden, to be activated by closing, the top should be more reliable, that is if it works! As some reviewers have mentioned, a lever needed fixing to get it working right, not confidence inspiring...
I was given a Bell and Howell taclight lantern with spotlight. The spotlight is on the bottom where the directions say should be opened to put in batteries. But when I unscrew the bottom I cannot tell where to put the batteries. Help
I tried to order this i called to get more information as the commercial states it SHIPS from Canada yet it says you are charged in US funds? so i called.... the guy couldn't even answer my question in why i was being charged in US and charged Canadian tax when it's from Canada? he told me i should order and see? i'm like no THANK YOU! the exchange rate is way to high to be charged for something that is from my country .. i ain't paying another countries high exchange rate. Keep that in mind if ordering.
For one, this is NOT Bell & Howell, it's Bell AND Howell. Nobody should confuse this company with the well known former Bell & Howell which was the U.S.-based former manufacturer of motion-picture machinery, founded in 1907. It's not hard to understand why the company chose very similar name of the well know and trusted US company.

Do a review of the Bell & Howell 8 mm Zoomatic Director Series Model 414 PD. You know, the film camera made famous by Abraham Zapruder.
mine fell off a 2 foot table onto a wooden deck and cracked.... anyone know where to get a replacement?
I received four lanterns thinking they were the deluxe version with hooks and magnets.. They did not and one of the lanterns had a major problem which made it unusable, In the battery compartment one of the slots had two negatives facing each other. I made an on line request saying that one lantern was defective and got no response.
I have a Bell and Howell Tac Light Lantern. It works great, BUT it won't turn off when I close it. Any idea why?
That jacket. The one your wearing @ 05:30. Can you tell me the brand/where you got it? It's awesome. Also, great review. I've never seen you before but you're a natural.
My lantern needs batteries replaced and it is impossible to unscrew the bottom of the lantern. Took to hardware store and they couldn't unscrew it either. What to do?
Just picked one up at Goodwill. I-Zoom branded for $1.99 What is the purpose of the twisting top?
LOL! Bachelor freezer - frozen food. I suspected the wife or girlfriend was purposely out of the house, James but clearly I see a bachelor pad - a very well-kept place. Good going! Sends you a virtual home cooked meal; slow-cooker brisket with seasoned red potatoes and carrots. You deserve it. :) Anyways, very informative video. I am disappointed the water test did not survive. So it's not a Top 10 camping item for me because there is ALWAYS rain at some point of the trip. On to Atomic Beam. Happy Thursday!

Heh well I do live with my wife and teenage twins, but they eat a lot of frozen food. I tend to eat fruit and veggies, so the freezer is mainly full of their junk! I think these lanterns are pretty water resistant, but completely submerging them is definitely a bad idea. Thanks for the comment!
What’s the name of the song, playing at the beginning?
I seen this allot in comments (lantern won't turn off when closed). Here's how I fixed it. Remove the four screws holding the battery holder in. You'll see a spring. That springs presses the on/off light switch (located on the other side of the battery holder) when you open/close the lantern. Just pull the spring up stretching it a little bit. Put the battery holder back in place with batteries in it and it should compress the switch to turn it off, if not stretch the spring a little more. Hope this helps.
How do you turn it off?
spot on review & a sweet jacket as well.

Do you find it better than the Atomic?
@Freakinreviews
7 жыл бұрын
I found them to be pretty much identical. Of the versions currently sold in stores, the only difference is that the Atomic Beam Lantern has magnets and a hook on the bottom while the TacLight Lantern doesn't. I use them interchangeably and notice no difference between the two.
I own severals and they do work. I had mine for years and they work good.
where can i buy that item please, i searched many times in Philippines its all replica.
Good review.
used it and it does the job (lights up)...... it may not be the best but it's good for emergencies.
Those are good there really bright I dontown same brand but similar uses 3AA battery can use rechargreable aswell. you can see really bright in your bedroom garage even when power outage. Your get 10 hours or 15 hours of usage out of it. I have goalzero one better no need battery placement.
FYI, I just bought 4 more for $19.99 total including the batteries on Amazon with Prime shipping. Not the B&H brand, but the same lantern. $5 each and the batteries is a good deal.

I got one and I love it work perfect for under the hood ,the magnet make it easy to stick it where I need it and it is bright enough. I recommended to anyone
I close it up all the way down and light still on. I don't see an on/off button. When battery dies, it turns off. So I take the batteries out and put them back in when I need it.😶
Is it suposed to shut off when u close it ? Mine dont and theres no switch .i remove batteries.

Subscribed good review
The battery terminals corrode over time on their own (batteries did not leak). If anybody has theirs stop working and new batteries don't help, I'd advise checking the terminals for a white powdery corrosion. Cleaning it off fixed it for me but it's a real pain in the ass to try and do all of that when the power just went out and you need light...
Do you know how many lumens this has?
thank you
i just saw this advertised on tv last night and im looking to buy it from ebay.. saw it 4 for $11
Hi my bell & howell lantern is NOT heat or water resistant, my new duracell rechargeable batteries stay bright about 15 minutes the starts to noticeably dim to almost nothing in another 45 min but will stay very dim for hours. I accidently dropped on kitchen floor from about 3' broke the housing and had to solder the battery connection. It sucks. Says bell and howell right on it too.
Where is your second video to compare atomic & tac light with each other?
@Freakinreviews
7 жыл бұрын
The TacLight Lantern died shortly after my review - probably due to the water test - so I was never able to do such a comparison.
I own one I love it..
I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE INVESTIGATED THE COP CAM YET. THAT WOULD BE NICE TO FIND OUT.
so far I bought one of these the same time as my talent Bell and how tac light and it's lasted longer only it does get a bit warm when the power goes out a day and it drains the battery is pretty good especially if you use rechargeable batteries the hook on the bottom that's supposed to hold it up I would not trust to hold up anything not even the lights and there's a small compartment on the top that you can remove to put other batteries in but the thing is pretty like made in China feeling
If you point a tac light flashlight strobe in a muggers eyes they will laugh at you, if you smacked a mugger over the head with this lantern the mugger will run away crying.

In the UK, lights like this have to show Lumens brightness, so you can compare.

I have the Tac light flashlight and it's durable as hell but the battery life is a joke. I have the atomic beam version but the front comes off so it's not waterproof.
I love lanters
I like the light but one of the biggest flaws in the light is you cant turn the light off. Which means the light is always on until the batteries get drained. When I am not using the light I take the batteries out. The company should of definitely made an off/on switch for the light.
I wish it had a some sort of removable good quality bendable paper plastic to cover one side so it don’t blind you when you walk also be carful with chinese copy I have seen it
vs ozark im satisfied with bell house prouduct
Bought two. All of a sudden, one WILL NOT TURN OFF! Batteries leaked and made a mess. I cannot get it to turn off. Now I don't trust the other one. Defeats the whole purpose of having light handy in an emergency.

YEP, I LOVE ZEPPELIN ALSO!
Left mine in storage on, found after a month, changed batteries doesn't work now.
Put 2 14500 in it and one regular AA and it is incredible.... try that
thanks, I'm not buying one now. I use an led flashlight that I got for about 5 bucks and it has 2,000hours of light. During a power outage I have used it for 8 days and it still lit up the living room and kitchen when pointed on a stand. I'll stick with the flashlights. for emergencies.
The item you will receive is not the Bell & Howell Tac Light Lantern but a substitute called Atomic Beam made in China and distributed by Supertek Canada Inc. In Mont-Royal, QC. The add also states you will receive two (2) lanterns for the single price of $19.95 for a limited time offer. Even though this unit is distributed by a Canadian company the price is in US dollars. I ordered the 2 lanterns and paid for two not one. This is definitely fraud but what else can we expect from TV adds.
