I highly recommend to you to put recon units on Return fire always. Recon vehicles have much better stealth in this game than they do in WARNO

Dug in units I think get a bonus in just about everything. Recon and suppression are your friends in this game. And if there is time, flanking those dug in units. I will always try to take mortars over the big arty as they will auto target / fire.
Ive played only a demo of Regiments and while it is not very representing, I've noticed there but also in your vid, that AI seems to be making weird decisions regarding unit placement.

If you are talking about the defenses, I believe they are somewhat randomly placed.

The pre-placed defences are random as far as I can tell as well
