Sorry, but I burst out laughing when you said: I didn't know Stromae speaks French and Belgian. I guess it always surprises me how little Americans know about European countries. (Not blaming you btw, it makes sense since for you it's far away and for me it's my neighboring country and I've been there before). I just think it's funny and it makes it even more satisfying to watch you learn about it. Different cultures are so fascinating and it's great that you are going out of your way to experience them.

Stromae sings in one language: French, but that's the problem with Belgium; the upper part (Vlaanderen) speaks Dutch and the southern part (Wallonië) speaks French. And you also have a small minority in the east that speaks German. Edit: Oh hej I didn't watch the whole thing yet but it seems you found out for yourself what the languages of Belgium are...😀

24h in Belgium, that's tough since there is so much so 1) I love Brussels and its diversity. You have different scenes if you want to go out and so much good food. It's made out of 19 municipalities and each has its own identity. But if you're only there for a short amount of time go to Grand Place (it's beautiful, I Love it) then go back to Mont des Arts and then go to the Music Instruments Museum. If you want a quirky drink go to La Pharmacie anglaise next to it. 2) Ghent The ambiance is nice and less touristy than Bruges 3) Namur is a small city with a citadelle 4) Antwerp. The station is stunning and the harbour os gigormous 5) Liège. I love the museum of thw station. The station also is a piece of architecture. It's also a very cool place to go out. All in all, Belgians are friendly and open to foreigners (the French speakers a tad more than the Flemish but both are cool). If you take a bike, landscapes are beautiful in the countryside, being in the Ardennes or at the coast. People like chocolates, waffles, fries and beer in Belgium but I assure you there's more to our country than that.

Love your concept ! That's so cool that you're trying to discover and share the musical culture of other countries ! Love love love ! I'm from Belgium (I speak French btw haha). And Stromae is 100% Belgian. You should check his song "Formidable" because it has an interesting story. Indeed, he pretends, in the clip video, to be drunk in the street (in Brussels, like on the main street). But, the guy is like a big star and it's so interesting to see people reactions to a drunk star on the street who's saying weird things that are actually lyrics from his new song (before it was released). After he filmed his clip with hidden cameras, there were articles all over the news in Belgium, saying "Stromae drunk on the street. The singer seems to be in depression". And then, boooom, he released his song and the clip video and then, everybody was shocked haha ! Well done Stromae ! You should check out Loïc Nottet, Oscar and the Wolf, Alice on the roof, Selah Sue. Keep going man !

Some artists that aren't mentioned yet and I can think of are: - Netsky - Rio (This song was one of his biggest hits, really have to listen this one!) - Milow - Ayo Technology - Natalia - I've Only Begun To Fight (is what I think made her rise to fame -at least, in Belgium :P) - DAAN - Housewife - Arsenal - Melvin (Little less known, but still great) - DELV!S - Come My Way (This is just a jam) - Gabriel Rios - Gold or Broad Day Light (Take your pick, both are great) bear with me :P - Belle Perez - Enamorada (Your classic latin song, but still fun) - Zwangere Guy - Guy-Funk (It's a new song, the three artist are al Begian and the clip is gross, but the music is great!) - Balthazar - Bunker (A great song to play in the background of everyday stuff) - Tamino - Habibi (Goosebumps. If you make a part two, and don't pick this one, you still should listen to this one!) - Absynthe Minded - My Heroics (Didn't know myself that they are Belgian lol) - Hooverphonic - Romantic (The lead singer won the Voice and her coach was one the members of the band, it's a match made in heaven if you ask me) - Das Pop - The Game (Just gets you dancing, even if it's just awkward shoulder moves) - Red Zebra - I Can't Live In A Living Room ('cause everyone knows it) - Admiral Freebee - Einstein Brain (The titel is enough) - Black Box Revelation - Do I Know You (Headbanger duo) - Customs - Harlequins (it's a bit older, but still one of their greatest hits) - Gorki - Mia (It's been a top three song in The Timeless Top 100 12 times in the past 18 years, the list is made every december. It's been there with Nirvana, Metallica, Radiohead and other legends) - Triggerfinger - I Follow Rivers (I know it's a cover, but here in Belgium, it's more popular than the original) - Zornik - Scared of Yourself (It's a bit weird, but the chorus makes you wanna do karaoke every night) - The Van Jets - Two Tides of Ice (Just because, I don't really have a reason why, it's just a good song) and last but not least... - Goose - Synrise or Words (The two songs are really different but each is great) So. Hope you don't mind the spam... This is kinda my scene and I wanted to showcase other great Belgian artists outside of the post commented five... Can't wait for a part two! You're doing great!

Belgian music culture is diverse and goes way back. Ever head of the singing nun? She had a world wide hit back in the 60's, even hitting number 1 on the US charts. Toots Tielemans was famous for his virtuosity on the mouth organ and whistling. He worked with lots of big names across the world, especially in the US. Was asked to provide the title music of several big movies in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Ever heard the song 'Jungle Fever'? It has been used in the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as well several movies and even a Coors beer commerical and has been sampled by lots of artists. Yes you guessed it, made by the Chakachas which was a Belgian studio band.. Know of the music types Techno and New Beat ? Yep, Belgian. Going way back, Django Reinhardt who was a very influential guitarist. Now the French claim him as theirs while ignoring that he was born in Belgium and had a Belgian mother. He even toured with Duke Ellington back in the 50's

Stromae started by laughing at the simplicity of building up hits (first cd's). Afterwards he ended up being well known as a musician. This way many things typical for Belgium end up in this video : links to Congo, René Margritte, etc....

Dutch is an official language whereas 'Flemish' is referring to a piece of land corresponding to the north of Belgium (Flanders) where the majority of people speak dutch. 'Flemisch' could also refer to the dutch dialects spoken in Flanders (and not in the Netherlands where one also speaks dutch). And to be complete: geographically seen is the modern version of Flanders totally different than it used to be in the past when flanders existed of a northern piece of france (along the coast), the west part of the recent Flanders (along the coast) and a southern part of the netherlands (also along the coast). Antwerp and Limbough were added later because other countries didn t want these regio s to have (😂😂😂... that last sentence was an inside joke..)
