And also remember that the founder of this Channel is a Cane Corso fanboy and will always favor the Cane Corso. However, if you are looking for a reliable, Trained Personal Protection Dog, then the Belgian is by far the better choice. Mastiff type breeds like the Cane Corso we’re not meant for personal protection work as much as they were premise protection or guarding livestock. Due to the territorial nature, they were well suited to being left to guard a particular area and protect it, simply because they felt it was theirs. So, when the narrator speaks of the dog making its own decisions, it essentially boils down to the dog deciding to attack anything that enters his space without permission without the owner prompting him or even being there. That may or may not be a good thing depending on what your needs are. However, that is not what you want in a personal protection dog. You want a dog that will turn on when you tell it to and turn off when you tell it to close to 100% reliability, Cane Corso is not that dog that is one of the reasons why they’re not used extensively by law-enforcement or the military. I know the owner of this channel and other Cane Corso aficionados will tell you this is because they’re too big and powerful and caused too much damage. I’ve heard the same thing from Rottweiler owners. Those are not the primary reasons. The finest provider of fully trained personal protection dogs in this country, based in Massachusetts, had a Malinois that was so intense he could not sell it to a private person. He wound up selling it to the Stockton California Police Department. The dog was so intense that they too had to ultimately wind up, retiring it as this 70 pound malinois ripped the kneecap off one perpetrator and tore the tricep muscle off another and ate it. I mentioned this just to illustrate that a dog doesn’t have to be the size of a Rottweiler, or a Corso to do a lot of damage. To do personal protection, work or law enforcement/military work, a dog Has to have the athleticism, the Drive, the intelligence, and stamina to do that work. That means it can neither be too big nor too small. It has to be big enough to handle a bad guy, but small enough to go anywhere and be able to be carried by its handler in the event it is injured. the Belgian checks off all those boxes. The Corso does not. The Belgian also does not have the Corso's stubborn streak making it much easier to train.

Having had many dogs in my life I felt I was ready for a Cane Corso. They definitely need a firm leader as they can definitely run aloof and not listen. When you own a dog like this they need both mental and physical stimulation otherwise they will destroy anything and everything. Another thing to consider is like most Mastiffs they drool. especially after drinking, eating and exercise. They also aren't cheap to feed a proper diet. As much as I love and trust my boy I wouldn't let him off leash in a place that i thought he could be of dangers to others. they are heavy, strong and my boy has knocked my wife over flat just by running past her. Also I'd hate for these guys to get a bad name and be bought by people that don't respect, train and love these dogs. I'd hate for the thugs that get Pitbulls to start getting these guys and give them a bad name. My boy is extremely loyal, loving and to be honest my best friend. I wouldn't get one unless you've had prior experience with a large breed. If you can't be a kind, loving, respectful owner who can also be a firm leader then I wouldn't get one. They need to be trained properly otherwise you might have a liability on your hands.

@@SimplicityForGood pitties. They're fairly small for ppd but work. They also average 12 plus from good breeders and bloodlines. 14 to 16 isn't unusual. But keep in mind. Personal protection dogs passed a certain age can't really be the primary protection dog anymore. Like even my wolfdog whos personal protection trained. We've technically retired him. His parents lived to 24 and 26. He's about to be like 18. But like even though he has the energy and stuff, injuries are alot more likely now. Wolfdogs tend to average 16 plus tho. However many don't work for protection dogs. I'd say cao de fila de sao miguel is your best bet. Also some stuff like the heeler x dingo in the smaller phenotype can basically be a monster of a protection dog and they have really good lifespans. But also hard to find. Pure heelers not sure.
