Original Belgian Army M97 jigsaw pattern infantry pack or combat rucksack with over 100 litre capacity. Made in 1000D Milspec Cordura. the pack weighs approximately 1.8kg. The pack is top loading with a compression liner with drawstring and toggle towards the top and the bottom of the main compartment. The floor of the rucksack can be opened with zip and two quick release buckles and can be used to store quick access articles or organise contents. The top lid has a zip compartment inside the lid for secure storage and a zip compartment over the top which allows for quick access to documents or flat utilities. The two side pockets are attached with zips and can be removed and zipped together to make a daypack. The back of the rucksack has the upper back and shoulder strapping fitted to the frame for height adjustment within an 8cm range and the deep shoulder and upper back pad helps to keep the weight comfortable over the shoulder area. The hip and lumbar pad are also deeply cushioned for support and the hip pad secures over the front of the waist with a wide 50mm strap fitted with adjustable under-over cam buckle. One side pocket is top loading, and the other side pocket opens fully with a zip around 3 of its sides. To prevent the lid from opening completely, a triangle of fabric holds the lid at 90 degrees to the pouch. Straps on the shoulders of the shoulder padding are sewn in loop so the pack can be pulled onto the shoulders and supported by the arms. The left strap has a quick release fly opening so the pack can be removed quickly in an emergency. A carry handle is located at the top of the back and also on the front of the pack. Two straps are provided over the top of the pack for addition of a roll mat if needed. The result is an extremely comfortable and versatile pack that is sturdy and sufficient when carefully packed for several days of camping and hiking. Dimensions are: main compartment including bottom compartment, 79cm long, 45cm wide at the top, expandable to 95cm; bottom compartment only, up to 20cm tall, 45cm wide; side pockets each, 38cm tall, 18cm wide, 9cm deep, top lid compartment, 32cm wide, 20 long and 8cm deep.

Good vid. A Brit fellow did a YT review of this pack several years ago. He stated that when the pack is fully loaded, it constantly slips down his back slightly so that he was constantly pulling the load lifters to keep it up higher. He also stated when the pack became heavy, the shoulder straps pinched the forward area of his armpits.

This has 90's rucksack written all over it so I can see why the comfort might not be the best
The pattern looks less loud than when it's new. Effective when faded and a bit dirty. Looks good.

i think all of the big rucksacks are good, if you don't load them to heavy. sometimes you have to carry a huge sleepingsystem and than you still have space for something else

The side pouches that unzip can be zipped together to make a smaller backpack if you wished and also if you zipped the side pouches together to make a backpack you can zip the whole thing in the ruck sack I have the same panel as wel and I can’t figure out what it’s used for

Thanks for showing. The Belgium Jigsaw Camo actually works good, if you look closer, you can discover it works very good in evergreen trees forests with the brownish, dead needles on the floor. Happy Trails! Regards from Germany, Torsten

@@RedBranchBushcraft what's your plan for the french Army back pack? Selling, collecting?!

I've a video series planned with 60-100 litre rucks then I'll probably sell it or trade it for a savotta large or xl

@@RedBranchBushcraft Got you. I know SAVOTTA packs well, had the large around for a year, could not become friend with the roll closure top. So I gave it away. But besides my personal preference it´s a really good bag. High qualitiy and well made. So I switched to the SAVOTTA Jääkäri Medium (yes, way smaler, but it was intentional). This pack is now one of my prefered backpacks. Over all, I can recommend SAVOTTA packs much. bye Torsten

that part you found in the lid replaces a pouch on the side. Not sure what yer supposed to connect to it. would make more sense to make the panel with PALS webbing.

One of the packs they sell is actually a Lowe Alpine. I don’t remember which country, but I’ve been tempted to get one. It’s a little big, but a Lowe bag for like $125 Canadian is pretty sweet.

I had that backpack years back. Didn't like it at all. Made only one hike with it. It is huge but not comfy. Liked Berghaus more and even old british army "bergen" was better than this Belgian army backpack, if you ask me. But if it fits to you nicely, it is bombproof stuff👌
