As a Lebanese I can say this does well to portray Beirut as the cultural city it is. There are still many aspects of Lebanon not shown in this video of course, from the nightlife (Hub of the middle east) , to the beautiful beaches and mountains. As amazing as this city is, Lebanon is so much more than Beirut. And there are many more amazing cities to visit (Byblos is a must). I spent the summer in the states and encouraged my American friends to visit, let's just say they weren't disappointed. I encourage you folks out there to visit. You won't regret it.

I'm Lebanese American and I like how authentic your video was. You showed a simple real daily life experience without the exaggeration and the fancy-ness of the country. if anything may be you undervalued the touristic destinations but I like that better because that way the tourists would be more satisfied when they actually get there. For instance you ate icecream at an average neighborhood store even though there are plenty of fancier icecream places. you toured the regular streets of beirut not the fancy areas and so on. Authentic reflection overall ! ;)

Thank you so much for this video, we really need more people like you in this world. RadioMarycha Yes and no. Lebanese are levantines so like Syrians, Palestinians and Jordanians. This is (generally) a different DNA to the gulf Arabs. However, because it’s been 1000s of years, the DNA would’ve been mixed due to travel and mixed marriages etc.

bro... beirut is LIFE. was destroyed and rebuilt 7 times through history.. from roman times til now. one of the oldest cities in the world and gave so many civilizations, religions, the alphabet and languages, and sailing. it is the city that gave birth to "law"... city of contradictions... city of life and food and dancing. old and new. no one comes here and not fall in love with it. i had an ex canadian wife, when she came here she ended up falling for the city as i told her... when we divorced (peacefully) she was sadder to leave beirut but not me haha... she was miserable going back to toronto. come and check and see for yourself.

Absolutely thrilled to see this episode, Alex. Loved that you included the historic, traditional side of Beirut! But I was also hoping you had showcased, in addition to that, the more vibrant and modern side of Beirut too, during the busy days as well as the bustling nightlife (Down Town Beirut, Zeitunay Bay, Hamra etc...). Next time around, you should definitely wander a bit further from Beirut; our mountains are a whole new mesmerizing experience that I'm certain would leave you wanting more. Much love from Beirut, and hope to see you back here again!

I love the analogy one of the people you filmed gave about Detroit, I think it relates quite well with Beirut. Many people, because of the media using it as a tool to sell newspapers or get article clicks, has made both places sound terrible, but ask someone who is from there or who has been, and they'll tell you that neither place is anything like what the shockhorror news stories tell you. Hope to see a similar episode, if a little less serious and less foreboding, on Detroit someday.

JoniSkills Mine exactly, i was looking for this comment.. i meaaan i live here and that was a very weird angle, felt like i was watching some other country's travel video.. no it does not look like that, we have very normal views, where did u even find those buildings?! Every country has crappy poor corners, we don't go there, we forget it's there.. we lead normal lives, wear normal clothes, watch the shows everyone watches, listen to music everyone listens to, .. you don't really have to go THAT far to make this video look different and interesting

Actually, I don't see it as crappy poor corners in this video. As a tourist and a German citizen in particular (we "love" our historic sites), I strive for traditional and historic places for than anything else. The western stuff, I may get somewhere else, but the traditional sites (even if they hurt) are what make the country for me. It's of course good if the city moved on and catches up to the worldwide standard in other instances. Right now after watching, I'm definitely hyped to go to Beirut and I've put it on my list on high priority!

This intro was really an example of media focusing on the bad,if you peel back the terrorism image, its actually an amazing city, news always makes the problem sound worse than it actually is. All they're doing is worsening the image of countries in the Middle East. Another thing media ruins is the image of the Koreas, they always report about the North, never the South,if you ask South Koreans what they feel about their unstable neighbours, they would have no comment, they are all to busy living their lives that North Korea is in the back of their head, they don't worry about it,its quite safe

Well, first of all, if you're into (or old enough to go to) nightclubs, bars (or just nightlife in general) you're in for a real treat. You could go to the Hamra district/neighborhood or to the Beirut central district which is also known as Downtown (you can find both easily on google maps) and just explore the nightlife in these areas. Another thing you could do is walk throughout all of Corniche (which is a seaside promenade right next to the coast) and just enjoy the sea view. I would recommend walking from the Pigeon Rocks till Zaituna Bay, where you can eat in restaurants. If you like shopping, you should go to Beirut Souks, which has lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. I would also recommend you to go to the National Museum of Beirut if you like History museums (the museum is closed on Mondays). These, in my opinion, are the main attractions in Beirut.
