So if they practice it there then the rest of Korea is no exception. And of course people would love their country I never commented about their affections towards their country, so idk what are you trynna start here. And no dear, America doesn't pretends to be this amazing place cuz it is an amazing place. Well its not only my opinion, foreigners who come here are themselves fascinated by America. And its kinda dumb of u to say about an immigrant living in a rural little town cuz yeah America is considered the richest nation of the world but it doesn't means that they don't have "RURAL LITTLE TOWNS". And the rural towns which you're talking about comes under 23% only. So ofcourse it comes under minimum. Therefore I can say that America does not pretends and its amazing

But, its not because that historically racism have happen toward black people that it didnt exist for white people. Of course, because of the history USA with slavery, culturally, racism toward black is more likely to happen and to shock more than racism against white people, but it doesnt mean it dont exist at all....

Vivian West I don’t think it’s selfish or demanding acceptance if you go there. Just like the people in this video, they wanna get to know the culture and people; that’s exactly what general tourism is. Do you really believe we want to force people to accept us, or visit a place like these guys? Why would you not be able to speak about a culture that is not yours when this is exactly what they are doing in this video? That is literally the sole reason tourism exists, to learn about and respect other’s cultures.

*My Korean is really bad. I know.* But I want to say this in Korean.

I studied Mandarin Chinese for two years and it has the tones system where each vowel can be pronunced in 5 different ways (one being neutral). Compared to Mandarin, Korean doesn't have any pronunciation specificity. The most difficult aspect of Korean is by far its grammar complexity.

Big difference here is that Korea's a very culturally homogenous country that's only really opened up to the rest of the world culturally in the past 2 decades, whereas America, Canada, and Australia are all colonized nations, meaning that European immigrants barged into lands originally occupied by Natives, yet some of the descendants of these immigrants (modern day Americans, Canadians, Australians) have the audacity to consider themselves natives and treat recent immigrants as something lower than them. It's very hypocritical and they have no room to talk.

As an Asian born and raised in America I experience the same thing as well. I've walked on the street before and have had random people yell out, "Konnichiwa!" at me (I'm Chinese, by the way and konnichiwa is Japanese...?) I speak fluent English. I consider myself more American than Chinese, by far. Racism appears everywhere in the world. Not just Asia. It may be more severe considering how America is considered a "melting pot" of cultures while Asia isn't nearly as multicultural, but still. Sometimes I wish to look like some of the people in this video so I'd blend in better. It happens to everyone. Not "looking" like they blend in. Feeling like you're sticking out, facing the prejudices that others hold about you because of your skin.

It's fun to sit at home with my parents and make dumplings, or eat moon cakes with them during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Although I've been treated harshly for my race, I still appreciate that it has made me who I am today. I consider myself more American because I can't read or write Chinese (though my listening comprehension skills are equivalent to a native speaker). There are also a lot of Chinese customs that I haven't heard of. I call myself American because I'm ignorant of a lot of things most actual Chinese people would know.

Walamonga 1313 murder, assault, and rape all existed in europe long before the refugee 'crisis', and these crimes will certainly continue to exist long into the future. coverage of violent crimes by the media varies depending on public interest and concern. these crimes all happened before, but i've never seen such a huge magnifying glass applied to it before now. if you look for a scapegoat long enough, you'll find one. not everything has to be politicized.

I always felt uncomfortable because of people who ask me stuff that really isnt their business. And even though i have a korean nationality and have lived in korea for most of my life people think im less korean then they are. They often say stuff like youre like that because youre american but in truth most of the time its just differences in indivisuals. I have always felt like people try to accentuate the differences and gloss over the things that people have in common, because they want me to be differnt they want me to be different so that they can have something in common, i juat wish that people would accept that people can be different nothing els.

One of the things that struck me the most is that some think foreigners "smell". It struck me because it's a thing that often happens here (Italy) too. Some (just a few luckily) Italians think that too and the fact that the same thing happens in other countries just shows that everyone has their own smell and just because it's different from what we are used to it doesn't mean that they're dirty or something

I am Korean but I think Korea is still conservative and racist. So whenever I see a video like this, I feel sorry and embarrassed. However, some of the problems that people face in the video are what happened to also Korean people. From that point of view, I also realized that our country did not develop into such a culture. I hope my writing will help Korean people to realize that they are also aware of our country's problems. Also, do not be considered discrimination when you visit Korea by watching video like this. Lastly, I would like to you don’t judge Korea based on the side.

Don’t let this scare you if you’re planning to go to Korea!!! These situations are sparse and do NOT happen every day! Most koreans are extremely friendly and want you to feel as comfortable as possible! There is some bad apples like in every country, but it’s not every day and it isn’t everyone! Seoul is definitely my favorite place I’ve ever been to! I spent over a month there and the only weird thing that happened was the staring and older people getting up when you sit down lol, but it’s few and far between! Most older ladies are really sweet and sometimes they randomly hand you a tangerine 🤣

you probably are talking about suburbs or in a country side where there's not even Seoulers in such places lol Even if I go down to little tiny country side in Korea, they stare at me bcz I speak Seoul dialect. And I'm sure this happens across the globe. Like Americans making fun of Texan dialect and Canadians on Nova Scotia accent and Germans on Austrians or Swiss accents lol Not to mention countless Spanish and French accents and they all look different. From lighter skin colors to darker skin colors. Of course people will look at you if you look different than them. I'm Asian, in small tiny German suburbs, they stare at me like crazy. Do you have any idea how Europeans are racist towards Asians and blacks? lol What I'm trying to say here is that every where in the world, this happens. Not only in Korea. :)

What I'm shocked THE most about in Korea is this one term mentioned by a Norwegian girl. Using the word "Russian" while implying a totally disrespectful thing. I know it's slang, I know not all Koreans use it... but still this term exists & lives on. Well, I'm Russian & am proud of it. And I feel really sorry for those who made this term up 'cause how mizerable can one be to even think of discriminating a whole nation just to... to... I don't even know for what sake. I really, really love Korea, I explore it a lot, I love learning more about it, I try & study the language & hope to visit it sometime... but this thing keeps bugging me & making me sad. Like... can I at least say proudly "Yes, I'm Russian" without risking of being misunderstood? Turns out that in Korea I can't. Dear people (not only Koreans, I refer to everyone), please stop using such terms. As well as "white horse" etc kind of things. That's really rude. Please try to be the best representatives of your nation & country.

I haven't experienced being asked if I'm Russian in Korea, but I saw a video where Martina from Eat Your Kimchi mentioned it too. It's indeed really disrespectful, and I feel bad for you and other Russian girls that they use it in this way. Maybe if you meet such a guy you should just give him a big rant, surely it will change his mind about Russian girls haha.

I have been twice to Korea, and twice I have met amazing people, and whenever I was lost (I couldn't use my phone), I would always find people to help me find my way back. Sometimes people would walk with me for like 30 min until I get back to my hotel. I have met people who invited me to parties for New Year, who drove me around the city to show me every little details they think is worth seeing. From my experience, Koreans are by far the most friendly and welcoming people I have ever met. Even the first time when I arrived to Korea and after taking KTX for 3 hours to finally arrive to my destination, an old man in the train station hugged me and said "Korea good, Korea good!". And me, as an European, I was only worried about he would try to steal in my bag, this shows the difference of mentality between Europeans and Koreans.

Been to Korea recently and the people were so nice. Like, even if you're not asking for help, if they think you're kind of lost, they will be the one to approach you first and guide you. What the 2 girls said was true though. If you're a foreigner, they will avoid you on public transportation lol. I rode a bus and the only vacant seat was beside me. A guy in his 40's saw the empty spot beside me, but he opted to stand the whole ride which I find kind of weird.

I guess it is because Koreans tend to hope they seem like educated... like if you can't speak english or poorly speak you feel ashamed for some reason. This is kind of an old propaganda which came from confusianism so generations like my parents tend to have this sort of point of view. But new generations are not afraid of being seems like uneducated person so attitude toward foreigners are surely changing I believe.

I have never had this experience yet... When I was in Seoul. People talked with me, never avoid me. Except 2 adjumas next to me in the subway... Staring at me and talking aha. And a old person talking to me in Korean near me, he gave me a religious book. But no guys looked at me... No guys followed me or something... It was very calm. No rude people talked me rudely... When I was lost, people helped me... And an adjumas stopped and said me: wow you're pretty! But I lived 2 weeks in a Korean host family and the host mom introduced me to her friends. I dunno, maybe was I very polite with Korean codes of politeness ?
