Being Sentenced on the Alcatraz Oil Pattern at Bowl 360

Спорт

My friends and I get to sample the infamously difficult 38' Kegel Alcatraz pattern. Since the right lane appeared tighter, I opted to use a 900 global honey badger extreme. On the left lane, I use a newly acquired Roto Grip MVP Pearl ball. Happy viewing!

Hey Pogi, I was watching some virtual cast you did last Summer with Robert Smith. (I repled here because comments were turned off there) Early on he mentioned which county he now lives in, which happens to be the same as mine. The county is spread out north to south with lots of cities spread apart. The minor story here is that our paths have haphazardly and randomly crossed paths over a number of decades, none of it forced In fact I was not in any of the places seeking out Robert, he just happened to be there at that moment when I was there. I never really pondered how odd its been... until I saw the virtual cast of yours and this here would be a real unusual situation to spot him out and about during SARS-CoV-2. Its twilight zone TV show kind of oddities. I have spoken to him twice, he may have recollection of the two brief encounters pending his memory. This timeline begins all the way back in juniors, but each and every time I saw him bowling or otherwise was always in transition, meaning I wasnt there very long for the paths to even cross at all nor to be memorable for him. I wonder if there are more chapters to be written now that we are getting up there in age. Whats next? Will one of us randomly cut right in front of each other in line at a Disneyland attraction or in an attempt to get food or beverage? ;-P

One never knows eh? I know Robert has been in various places. I believe he's somewhere in Southern California. I am not sure where exactly. I met Robert in 2009. Great guy!

@@irishpogi I guess ill share the episodes then...until I randomly cross Robert at a seafood joint or something and share a libation or two. The oddest chance meeting was at the Flamingo poker room right in the hear of the LV Strip. Normally I dealt poker in that room daily, but on that day I covered for the back cashier. He sat only few feet away, so I could see him playing the whole time. I estimate this between 2013-2016. We did speak to each other when he bought in for a bit about bowling. I remember he humbly defered himself as the other Robert Smith bowler, as if he wasnt the bigger bowler. If I wasnt working, we would have had a longer discussion with many stories to tell. The last time we spoke was actually during the 2017 Masters qualifying, also in Vegas at The Orleans. It was the only PBA event in Vegas I ever attended out there, due to my work schedule. I was actually moving for good from this location just down the street and was finishing up a WSOP circuit event, the last time I ever dealt cards. So the timing of this PBA event was impeccable. Though I spent much of the time talking to Alex Hoskins and his GF during his amazing run thru the brackets, I did have that one moment with Robert again. He and a couple other players, perhaps AJ Johnson, were well behind the lanes just shooting the breeze waiting their turns during qualifying and we ended up discussing a time when Bob converted the big 4 twice in the same game during a JAT tourney in his youth. He told me cut them both of them across, he did not bounce them out of the pit. Now that's some accuracy! Greatest feat ever aside from a 900 series? The only other time I saw him was when I competed in the Queens and Masters at Fresno State during our college careers. We all qualified out of separate CA college centers and the bracket finals were held at Fresno State. This was the lone time we technically competed in the same event, although we didnt meet in the brackets. Robert might recall one epic match of his during Fresno Masters that year. The match was really tight between he and Tony Reyes. Then the baffling spectacle of the tournament took place. During one of the games, both players managed to bounce a ball out the of the back flap of the pit back onto the lane surface on spare shots. Ive never seen this feat done since, let alone twice. How did I slip in this field? Joel Reyes, Sanford Carbajal, Charlie Esteban, and home favorite Blain Wong qualified for this event in addition to Bob... what a cakewalk for me! It was a delight to have birds eye views of these matches when I wasnt actaually bowling myself. This is just a 12 lane center at Fresno State. So all these great players competing was a site to behold. Side note: Joel Reyes was just lighting up 3 game sets. High 700 series. He held a block scoring record with the PBA for many years before it finally fell. So yea, I didnt win The Masters LOL My odds to win would be one of those 999 to 1 jobs in this field. The Queens also had some future pros in it like Lynda Barnes. That tourney stopped a year later. It 3 game matches, dbl elim just like in the real Masters, a real fun event.

@@adcatchem2707 The pattern is very gettable. It may play differently where you bowl because of different lane surface, topography, and type of oil.

@@adcatchem2707 A lot of bowling coaches have said that to find out where to play on the lane, use the rule of 31. Pattern length minus 31 should be where your ball should be at the end of the pattern. Alcatraz is 38' and that means you ought to get the ball to board 7 at the end of the pattern. Due to topography issues, board 7 may not be playable on certain pairs. Gotta let your ball be your guide.
