This is quite informative! I am currently a supply Maths Teacher in the UK and I must say the students behaviours are not quite encouraging, most times you will be teaching and only very few will be participating. The disciplinary measures are also not helping the matters. In all, teaching in the UK secondary schools is so challenging due to behaviours.

In the public or private sector? I'm curious because the behavior you complained about is becoming a norm here in Nigeria, especially in the public sector because of the decline in disciplinary measures. How would you rate your overall experience, if you don't mind sharing, both at home and abroad, I mean on this particular issue?

In South Africa corporal punishment is not allowed in schools. In high schools kids get detention, well the high school I went to gave detention for bad behaviour. My son is in primary school and in his school they do not give the little kids detention but give them stars for good behaviour and everyday they are in zones (green, orange and red) based on behaviour. If a child is in the red zone their parents get called into the school. Not too sure about type of punishment for the older grades. Gr1-Gr2 I know kids are taught all their subjects by their class teacher and believe they start having different classes (taught different subjects) with different teachers at a later stage roughly between Gr3 or 4 up to Gr12. Kids however only start school from age 6 (preschool) and age 7 (primary school). Was lovely to draw similarities and differences in this video. Thank you so much for valuable content ❤

The behavior management is quiet tough coming as a teacher from Africa. Your students can go as far as throwing papers at you, the older ones, they won't write, talk back at you. Teachers coming from Africa needs to be really patient.

It's interesting to learn how different the curriculums are across Africa. In my country we do map reading from primary, we study UK history and Geography too and a lot other countries. Damn I was even taught the UK politics in primary, as to why I don't know, maybe because they are our colonizers. I saw the UK citizenship test questions and a grade 7 pupil in my country can pass that test. Also, corporal punishment was banned, though I disagree with that one. The caning was necessary.

To me as a South African, it looks like the education system in UK and the behaviour of the children is exactly as in South Africa. In South Africa, it is a serious crime to use corporal punishment, you can go to jail and lose your certificate. As a South African, looks like being a teacher in UK is like redundancy. I really don't like SA education especially in public schools. Children are uncontrollable and teachers have nothing to do but instead the Department of Education blames teachers for everything. When a child stabs another child at school, know that that school is in hot water, let alone if the instance took place during teaching and learning period, as a teacher for that particular lesson you should resign the same day.
