BEHRINGER X32 RACK BUILD WITH STEREO IEM

Музыка

It was about time that the rehearsal space got an upgrade to a new digital mixer and In-Ear Monitoring system that could also be put to live use. So I invited my good friend Jean-Luc Camilleri who works with a reputable local audio company to help me with the process.

    Love it. I’ve been meaning to build a similar rack for myself. The only thing I would add, possibly in a separate rack, would be a pair of ART S8 signal splitters so that the inputs can be split in two, the first going to the rack to use for in ear monitoring and the second going to front of house for those instances when a third party is doing FOH sound.

    Hey! Yes I've seen a good number of builds incorporate an XLR splitter, which is an excellent idea if the aim is to give the FOH a totally separate feed. However, the purpose of this build was to keep it compact and have the X32 still be the FOH mixer at the same time :-) But who knows? Might upgrade later if we feel that that feature is going to be needed.

    With the IEM stereo can you pan seperate channels left and right with a phone app? The band members like this ability, which the P-16 will do, but isn't sufficient and has reset issues at times.

    You use rack headphone amp, how do you connect it to your IEMs? I'm just building a rack unit like this and I need to decide if rack headphone amp (like you) or these small active wired amps you put on your belt.

    Hey guys quick question! I am looking to buy an X32 rack for in ear monitoring, we are 5 musicians and we'll use that same console for FOH, so outputs 7 and 8 aren't available. Also we can't buy an S32 but we have an analog snake with enough channels. We'll have 3 stereo mixes with the XLR outputs in channels 1 through 6. Can I use the TRS aux outputs 1-6 on the console to have 3 more stereo mixes for in ears?

    In a x32 rack, Will I be able to add 7 stereo IEM out using a s32 digital stage box? I mean can I use S32 box and use all 16 outputs ?

  • @LukeGreck

    @LukeGreck

    Yes, you can wire up 7 stereo IEM mixes without the S32 digital stage box 🙂 This is because you also have 8 Aux Out connections in TRS at the back (apart from the 8 XLR Outs). So you can use 14 of the outputs towards your IEM Transmitters which leaves your with XLR Outputs 7 & 8 (default) for your FOH L&R Outputs 🙂🙌🏼

    I’ve thought of that often and there have been many times when I’ve had to play stages where IEMs weren’t available and wished we had a system with splits. The truth is that mostly in these situations you are not the only band playing (think beer Festival stage for instance). For this system to work you’d have to ask FOH to unplug mikes (drums, vocals) and DIs and plug them into your own mixer. They’d then have to undo everything for the second band. Often before you’ve even got to the stage, FOH has already wired everything up. I can see this work if you are the only band playing and you agree with the FOH provider before hand of your intentions.

  • @LukeGreck

    @LukeGreck

    Fully agreed. For that scenario (where as you said, you are not the only band playing) then the splitter would be a life saver. So far, we are only using it for our rehearsal space and for occasional wedding where our usual sound provider isn't available. In the case of festivals or venues with a larger stage, I think having two more wireless IEM units than I have, would help - and then reserve the wired IEMs for say the drummer and keyboardist. The joys of new toys :-)

    Hey Luke. Awesome video. A couple of questions: 1. How come you use two outputs on the X32 for each IEM? Is it for stereo, so for example output 1 is left and output 2 is right? In that case the total amount of possible connected IEM is 4 if I am right? 2. How do you make an individual mix for each IEM and send it out? 3. I assume from the USB you can use the x32 as an audio interface? In that case you could also use the x32 to live record a concert, right? The direct inputs and now the individuals mixes of course. Thanks again for the vid and hoping for an informative answer! /Mads

    Hi Mads! 1. Yes exactly, I use two outputs in order to have a stereo mix (L & R). Technically the Behringer has 8 XLR outs and 6 TRS outs (so 14 in total). However, since two of the XLR outs (7 & 8) are assigned for FOH, that leaves you with 12 useable outs. These can be wired up to provide 6 stereo mixes :-) 2. On the iPad App (X32 Mix), you have a page dedicated to your outputs. There you can link stereo pairs, re-name your monitor mixes etc. Then on the main input page you have a button on the left-hand side labelled "Sends on Faders" where you can adjust your mixes to each musician. The App is available to download even without having an X32. It's a good way to get accustomed to the interface if you're still shipping around ;-)

    @@Max-ge7sv I was trying to understand what are the options to connect multiple headphones (receiving different mixes) to the X32 (without using a headphone amp). What do you recommend in that scenario?

  • @Max-ge7sv

    @Max-ge7sv

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@galosu82 so the main problem and the reason why these guys used a headphone amp is that the line output of the x32 rack is a mono signal. So if you connect your headphones to this output (which are stereo), the sound will only be on one of the stereo line (left). If you plug in the single end of the Y cable into the x32 output and use the double end for your headphone (LR), the sound will only be left. But if you want to use the double end of the Y cable to connect two outputs of the x32 and the single end is a stereo cable, going to your headphone, it will work. You could setup the two channels as a stereo line in the x32 mixer and use it as a stereo headphone monitor signal. Since the amount of ouputs are very limited on this mixer, many people use a headphone amp in order to convert the mono signal into a "stereo", but of course the signal will then only be a mono signal, which is routed to both channels (L and R). If you do so, you use one output line as a monitor signal instead of two, but you cannot use it as a real stereo line then (for exmaple you can not rout one guitar left, the other one right etc., because you only have one mono output, which is dublicated in the head phone amp to left and right).
