Behringer X32 Compact Unboxing and Overview

Ғылым және технология

My audio console was in need of an upgrade, especially with some of the projects I am working on this holiday season. So today we are taking the leap and jumping from analogue to digital. If you have any questions please drop them in the comments below so that I can do a follow up video on the specifics of the console.

We use one at our church, and well, it's better than the 24+ year old analog console we had before, that we had probably since it was made in the early 90s... Let's just say that for the last couple of years, before 2020-2021 I was starting to feel like I was almost getting PTSD after every Sunday, and that if you've had to suffer from a whole board have channels go dead for a while, or permanently, or channels go dead during service and you gotta find a channel to change to(when tons are already dead), you probably get where I'm coming from, when you understand that I'm just a lowly volunteer, who just takes their settings that are pre applied, and only touches them if necessary (not including pastor and guest mics which always need volume adjustment at least once or twice a Sunday) and mostly sticks with what I'm best at which is the SongShowPlus/welcome music/announcement PowerPoint side of things... Really, almost anything computer I'm good with (although I'd probably be terrified if I ever had to try using a DAW, that looks complicated in videos I've seen) I think the reason our church waited so long to get a new board stems from the fact that we are a small Church and a new soundboard would be like a lot of money to just have installed and bought if we purchase what we need to, because our board and associated systems are 25 or more years old and needed a lot of TLC if not just outright refurbishing of the whole system which is what we ended up doing was throw out our long snakes and redo our plugs in the stage and riser steps to the stage and the wall to where they were no longer XLR but quarter inch XLR combo jacks with just short runs soldered connections and a digital transmitter box that then sends the signal to the back where the soundboard is. According to the friend of ours whose company installed everything, a problem that a lot of churches including ours have had was AM FM radio signals coming through the audio mix which was the only reason he recommended going with the behringer x32 compact as opposed to just a standard analog mixer like we had before

Interesting that you have been having so many issues with the console at your church. To be fair, the console that I spent most of my time behind was the Midas M32 which is the console this one is based on. They are exactly the same as far as how they work. I have never learned how to use DAW either, probably won’t be learning it anytime soon. I’m not sure what console you had prior to the X32 but I’ve never heard of AM/FM radio waves affecting the soundboard, that could be the case with wireless microphones though I imagine. My recommendation to you would probably be to get a DL16 or DL32 depending on how many inputs and outputs you need, then you can just plug everything into that and repatch things as needed to your working channels. Then just set the scribble strip of non-working channels to be blank and label working channels whatever you need to. Thanks for sharing your experience with the console!

@@BryanLankston the new x32 is nice... The old analog one, a Yamaha board with nothing but knobs and sliders, though, was a pain at the end of it's life cycle... It's in my barn, has been for nearly 2 years now, and I'm debating if it's worth it to try using DeOxIt let alone anything more advanced to breath a bit of life back into it, because not only are my skills in that area nonexistent, but we'll, yeah, I don't want anyone else to have my issues(just in case you were confused which one was bad)
