Behringer X-Live Install and Setup

Behringer finally released the X-Live Expansion card for the X-32 family of mixers. In this video, I'll be installing the X-Live card into my X32 Rack, installing the firmware updates for the mixer and card, and doing a quick test recording.
At the time of recording the video, the latest firmware for the X32 Rack and X-Live card was 3.08 and A11, respectively. At the time of posting the video, Behringer had released firmware versions 3.09 and A12. It looks like the updated firmware fixed very minor issues that most users won't experience. I've updated to those versions with no issues.
I'd suggest upgrading to the latest firmware available on the Behringer website.

    Thanks for the video man! I was trying to figure out if the X-Live would work with the rack, and your video was the first thing I found on it. I can't believe all the awesome things you can do with the X32 I have my Rack unit ordered. Now that I know this card works with it, I'll be adding it to it.

    You probably know this by now, but you can use larger SDXC cards (128GB for example). The X Live just needs to see a card formatted to FAT32 and SDXC cards aren't. So you will need to format them to FAT32 in a computer first, then the X Live should read it as usual.

    the X-Live card can also handle bigger SD-card than 32 GB. But you can´t format SD cards with more than 32 GB within the card (x32 / m32 mixer) You have to insert larger SD cards into your computer and format them to fat32 if you want to erase recordings on them an reuse the cards with the X-Live card. Please always test the cards before use. That is also useful for 32 GB cards. The card have to be fast enough (Class 10).

    Not sure what you're referring to as far as injecting a usb to. I don't have experience with the DN32 but the Xlive card does the same thing but is half the price. I'm not sure about a bundle though. Might be worth finding a used X32 and buying the XLive card separately. Recording 16 channels we get at least 3 hours of recording time on one 32GB SD card. Double that with 2 cards.

    Hi. Nice Tutorial. I haven't the x-live yet but plan to buy one. For the 32Gb limitation, I think you could try to format your 64gb (or higer) sd card with a third partie soft ( AOMEI for ex) and see if it work.

  • @ManBunMetalHead

    @ManBunMetalHead

    As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to do that. You'd need to import the files into an audio sequencer on a computer, split the channels into individual tracks, connect the computer to the X32 using the X32 as an audio interface, and setup the outputs on the sequencer to the inputs of the X32. Then you should be able to play back the tracks through the X32.

    Yes. The X32 outputs a 16 or 32 channel WAV file. You'll then be able to import it into your DAW and split the file into individual tracks.

    Hello! Can't I run my SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC 64GB UHS-I U3 V30 card? I have a M32C model, I bought a DN32-LIVE card, updated the card itself (Clark Technician), but the Red sign in the M32 Edith menu is still on! Please answer - How to do something in sequence? And Do I need to format a SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB card on a Computer before inserting it into Clark Technician? Thank .. PS. I flashed the Clark Technics card with this firmware from the official site - DN32-LIVE_Firmware_A12 ... Is this the latest new firmware? People work on KZread exactly These SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB cards are fine .. I copy the DN32-LIVE_Firmware_A12 firmware file to the root of the flash drive (as you always say), turn on the M32C while holding the Button / Scroll and it seems that the update starts .. After I turn off and turn on the M32C again .. But what kind of firmware is on DN32-LIVE - we can’t see the M32 editor through ... This is only on consoles people can see ... What are the options to know exactly - the card is stitched or not?

    nice vid! question: I want to use my midas 32R as an analog summing mixer (usb out from logic) and record to my installed x-live card. what I am thinking is to simply route the audio out the 8 main xlr outs on the mixer and right back into the mixer using xlr cables into the main inputs. I'm sure I'll have to deselect the input channels from the main outs to prevent a feedback loop, but what would be simple steps to routing? is it even possible? seems like it should be. I guess it would be cool to route it to the sd card 2 different ways. 1 to 1 for the 1st 8 channels. this would only record the color of the mic pres, but a second way where actual summing is taking place down to 2 channels if that's even possible (using a mix bus to the x-live maybe?). obviously, I wouldn't need it to record both ways at the same time, but it would be ideal. I can then take the 10 files back into logic (off the sd card) and compare make my final decisions. if anyone can list the steps that would be helpful. thanks!

  • @ManBunMetalHead

    @ManBunMetalHead

    Wow, that sounds like a complicated setup. The first thing I'd say is I'm not too sure if going through all that work is worth getting the coloration from mic pre because you'll be going through 2 converters to do so. D/A -> mic pre -> A/D. But you never know until you try, right? I think you could do pretty much what you've suggested, although I've never done so myself. But instead of rerouting the outputs, you should be able to record the output directly to a USB drive on the front of the unit. That way you'll have all the tracks on the SD card in the X-Live and the mixed/summed track on the USB drive. This is assuming that you could get all of it to work at the same time. Good luck!

  • @caseykittel

    Man Bun Metal Head - I thought the usb drive on the front was limited to 2 tracks. I would normally worry about going d/a and back in a/d, except this is to the same unit which should be clocked to itself perfectly. I found in the menu where you can prevent the inputs from routing out the main outs, which is one step down. Hehe. I can’t be sure wether or not it will sound any better than a plugin inside logic. It might sound really good on drums. It might sound bad. Anyone think it’s work a try? Anyone one else know the steps to take? Thanks!
