BEHIND THE SCENES: WC Ski Racers FREE-SKIING

Спорт

Hi, today's WC Levi video is not from regular training runs. It's also not from a free-skiing training session. It's from the racers taking a few turns outside the gates as they are warming up or just making a few turns to get down the hill during course inspection or just going from point A to point B.

    Really appreciate the work you put into all these videos. It's making me follow WC racing again after ignoring it for years. And for what it's worth, I think the music is perfect for this one.

    Thanks for all your videos but this one really stands out for me. It's really hard to find or see how these world class skiers ski without gates. Love it.

    Ski racers are like wild cats on a safari; very shy and mostly keeping out of site. We were hiding in the bushes and actually glad to get this much filmed :)

    Great video! They all have the same "solidity" (I can't find another expression): being solid is the key for a good modern carving and a safe freeskiing on the slopes. PS: I can imagine all the s**t some people would write if they weren't world cup racers :)

    I was watching trying to figure out why they look different free skiing than other free skiers. It's the upper body rotation .. they rotate much more on short turns than normal skiers do who try to keep their body always facing downhill on the short turns. Interesting, but i guess it's just habit from needing to get around the gates at high speeds.

    Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. So what you are saying is that the WC guys are not keeping their upper body facing down hill as much as for example regular expert free skiers? Instead they face more in the direction of where the skis are heading. Correct me if I misunderstood you. Question to you, if you compare the free skiing videos to the ones where they are training on the course, do you see the same kind of tendency?

    I raced a little as a kid and may do some masters racing now as an adult but my question is if they are free skiing why they shin guards and forearm guards?? Obviously their form is impeccable. Their edge angle is unbelievable.

  • @Triggerboy62

    @Triggerboy62

    These skiers are the best WC ski racers in the world. Alex Pinturalult etc. so look no further for skiing reference. Dont remember if anyone had forearm guards but yes, they use them in SL as well as especially in flushed gates they tackle the gates with the outside of the arm instead of cross blocking. Shin guards they have on as they are training in the gates but here just free skiing in between training sessions or just warming up. Please get into Masters racing, it is a lot more fun than when a kid or a junior. Pressure is off and you can truly enjoy. Cheers, Tom

    Hey im not a skiracer, so I have a unconventional question. Why do skiracers always loosen their boots? I loosen mine from time to time during the day to relax, but is there something else behind it?

  • @Triggerboy62

    @Triggerboy62

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and thanks for asking. It is by no means an unconventional question as many wonder the same thing. Why are they unbuckling and why are they jumping out of the boots the first chance they get. The answer is simple: the boots are so tight that they have to open or their feet will take serious damage. WC racers are extreme in this sense but all racers are in small boots as they ski much better than bigger sized boots. Personally I don't advocate using too small boots as I think that your feet are much more valuable than wrecking them at skiing.

    Good observation "they all look the same". And they should, because ski racing builds on fundamentals skills and physics that are exactly the same for everybody. Actually "skiing" does. Those WC racers have ski boots, skis and they ski on a pist like you and me. However, they have been trained to execute movements to perform at the highest possible level. I'm here to help skiers of all level reach their desired potential. That's why it's so valuable watching WC racers do free skiing.
