RTD's gleeful, shameless lying is one of things I always loved about him the most as show runner. It's such a good way to throw people off the scent and avoid spoilers, and you can just tell he enjoys so much fooling us time and time again.

What, nothing about bringing back Gabriel Woolf, the actor who literally have Sutekh's his voice past and present?! I mean, that voice IS Sutekh! One could have depicted a sock puppet on screen and that voice would still make the thing terrifying!

I wouldn't call Sutekh forgotten, he's from one of the most popular classic series episodes ever in the height of the original show's popularity. The Toymaker is interesting but his story is mostly missing and only got a home release after the episode where he reappears.

Definitely not forgotten, though I was very surprised that people wanted him back so badly. I thought Pyramids of Mars was just okay, nothing super special or memorable, so I kinda just assumed that Sutekh was one of those average villains fans ask to see back just for the sake of it (especially since the Sea Devils have never had a good story and fans were even more vocal about wanting them back for years). So far though, I like what they're doing with him in this story.

Can't help noticing how recent films and TV shows that have really drawn people in - Dune, The Expanse, Everything, Everywhere All At Once - they all use a great deal of practical effects rather than just CGI. I'm so glad that Doctor Who continues in that tradition. I'm not surprised really. There's a very long habit in Doctor Who of doing this. But it's gratifying that they have really leant into it.

And Sutekh voiced by Gabriel Woolf, the original actor, - now 91 yrs old!!!!!!!

Really interesting to see how they did the effects for the time window. I was curious about that effect when watching the episode because it did look very cool with the mixture of the flooring for the room being visible and yet they were "in" the VHS recording. There's also something very amusing about them calling the cue for this icon called the TARDIS and in rolls a humble tennis ball.

In terms of the tennis ball I do wonder if they could have instead made a lighter model of the Tardis and put it on a base that can rotate to have more realistic movement. Especially as we’ve already hit the deck before we transition to that inside shot. But saying that, given the amount of other practical effects and budget sucking VFX used I can see why they did this

I genuently have to say: My biggest respect for the Visual effects and costume department! I mean, everything in this episode is practically perfect, the writing, the camera work, EVERYTHING! But man! Sutekh, the Skullfaces AND the time window! It's amazing! My biggest respect to EVERYONE involved!

They basically created their own Volume.

The villain reveal was epic! Also the time window scene was very cool, stepping into a VHS tape. Knowing that they did most of that in practical effects is amazing!

I haven't seen that many Classic Who stories, but I HAVE seen Pyramids Of Mars and The Reveal was incredible, I'm so happy this show is good again

I haven't seen Pyramids of Mars but I did read the comics recently and he's in those and so I also went nuts.

I had the most biggest and nerdiest grin when Sutekh was revealed! :D

Wow the time window effects is crazy! Props to the crew! Loving these production snippets and learning how much practical effort exists in the show.

I really wish Martha Jones would be a "guest," as well as Ace, or even Grace (8th Dr).

Loved the final reveal of Sutekh, but Lenny/Morris absolutely stole every scene he was in. What a champ.❤

Really glad we got some more down-to-earth moments with Kate. I've always felt she needs more moments where she relates her upbringing as the Brig's daughter to the Doctor.

The Time Window and the way it glitches and the sounds it makes, reminds me of Detroit: Become Human, when you play as Connor and you use the "reconstruct" to find out what happened at a crime scene.

Saluting a tennis ball took me out. 😂

As @a 65 year old man I apologise if I have not voiced my opinion before now, but I must say that those that are accusing Dr Who of becoming too woke are WRONG! It has EVOLVEd with the TIMES! I can remember watching Dr Who since the second Doctor, and have LIVED through the changes in society that Dr Who reflects so well. Yes, there are some weak episodes in each re-incarnation, but to say that the Dr Who production team is trying to please the. Woke brigade with the latest re-incarnation is utter rubbish. LOOk at the FACTS people! We now live in a society where if you do not wish to watch an episode when it is broadcast, you can CATCh UP on various platforms. Viewing habits have changed dramatically sine the mid 2000’s re-boot! Overnight/weekly figures are NOT going to replicate those of the 2000’s, or the 60’s,70’s,80’s! I consider myself quit au-fait with technology, and can agree width message that Dot and Bubble is conveying. That doesn’t make it ‘woke’! You see examples all of the time where younger generations cannot communicates effectively because that Yes spend too much time on social media. In addition, yes, there is still a problem with accepting each other’s differences, whether they be colour, gender etc., but the problem will not be resolved by people voicing opinions on social media, they are resolved by talking to each other face to face! As a 65 Year old white British man, I applaud the fact that we have had a female Dr Who, now followed by a black Dr Who! Ok, some of the stories haven’t been the best, but that’s the melting pot of life! Previous incarnations of Dr Who have all had their dud story lines! GIVE THE SERIES A BREAK! The fact that it has lasted long nough to celebrate it’s 60th anniversary should be applauded!!!

I totally agree. Well said. I'm a 53 year old female who was introduced to Doctor Who just as it was ending it's first run. From the US and it speaks to me in a way American science fiction shows didn't. It has changed and evolved just like society around it has. But then everyone has to be an armchair critic (nitpicking), instead of just enjoying the ride.

I'm 64, and am not even sure there are weak episodes - the fan base stretches from 3 to 100+ and the episodes that don't appeal to me so much are usually favourites for my youngest grandkids. We regularly do Doctor Who evenings when they visit.

The VFX on the time window looks REALLY GOOD! Kudos to the VFX and the Production team

I love that this episode put me at the edge of my seat and I was like what the whole time and also that oh that theory was right my goodness

When Kate starts thinking about her father telling her stories about the Doctor, there's this feeling like he left out a few things! The feeling of losing someone in your command isn't something you can appreciate from hearing about it, you literally have to experience it! And once you do a part of the romanticized feeling about the Doctor is gone. You know at some point he's going to hop on his TARDIS and run off to elsewhere. There's a look in Kate's eyes when all this reality pops in her mind and you can read it on her face clear as day. 😔

Ruby must be Horus reincarnation. Horus, Egyptian god with the power of the sun rays. Ruby Sun-Day, just as Horus who defeated Sutekh in the ancient Egypt almost 3.000+ years ago. Actually, Ruby's age as shown in Boom is 3082 years.

This episode instantly became one of my favourites. What an episode.👏👏👌

I can't wait for next week's finale. It needs to be about 6 hours long to be able to tie up all the lose ends in a nice, neat bow. It is going to feel like an eternity before the next season starts back up. More Dr who please!!!!

The visuals on this episode were SO good, especially the Time Window. Jamie Donoughue did a brilliant job in directing everything as well. Loved it, bring him back next season too!

A brilliant episode all in all, the type that sticks in till your head until next week.

I can imagine a world were it would be Sarah Jane instead of Mel in this episode, if her actress hadn't sadly passed away.. It would have been crazier to have both the Doc and her freak out.

As soon as I saw Sutekh returned and after watching the episode four or five times. I went back and did a rewatch of the Pyramids of Mars episode with Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen(R.I.P. Sarah Jane Smith).

Are you seriously telling me, the actress who played Susan in THAT twist, was the actress Susan Twist 😂

I love to see these very complex sci-fi tech being basically all practical effects! It's really hard to find this today and I just really appreciate it. Also, mad respect for the arts department, the costumes, make up, prosthetics, sets... EVERYTHING is absolutely FANTASTIC!! Can't wait for the next episode 🔥

The floor of the Time Window reminds me so much of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

I know nothing about doctor who before The Doctor and Rose but I am intrigued to learn more about these old villains and monsters!

This episode was breathtaking. Seeing that it is mostly practical is amazing. And non pacifical VFX was only used what it is absolutely needed, and executed perfectly. Amazing. Disney money in good use.

I'm wondering how they're going to explain this. In Pyramid of Mars, Sutekh was a member of a godlike race of aliens, but not gods like Maestro or the Toymaker were. But here, they're saying he's like the oldest and the first of the pantheon, as well as the most powerful, so that's more than a race of godlike aliens. Perhaps getting killed in the time corridor changed him into a god? Or perhaps the one we saw in 1975 was merely an avatar for the real Sutekh? I can't wait to find out!

It'd been a while since I saw Pyramids of Mars and didn't catch who it was until I looked him up!! Now I'm so excited!!! I've been waiting on his return as long as I have for the Toymaker!!! :D

These feel more like Confidential than Unleashed.

I just re-watched the prologue to Pyramid of Mars and it says that the Osirians, of which Sutekh is one, were so advanced and powerful that "they became like gods. As well as developing technology and science, the Osirians developed powers of pure thought bending the physical world to their will by the power of their minds alone. As they grew in power, so they grew in wisdom... all but one. His name was Sutekh." (from the Pyramids of Mars Prologue)

The time window was AWESOME big time, I thought it was the definitive high light of the episode maybe the series

4:35 I can't believe how far Doctor Who has come since 1963 or 1988 when I started watching properly, but I also can't believe how far Unreal Engine has come since I played Unreal 1 in 1999! My faves!

I really loved the VFX segment of the BTS. I'd love to see more of that in the future.

Is the spin hard landing (ouch! You know she's alive, right?) going to be the default for the TARDIS now versus the materialisation?

Honestly, the second half of the episode was so good that I'd forgotten whatever is going on with Flood.

Sutekh’s reveal reminded me a lot of Gozer’s resurrection in Ghostbusters: Afterlife in the best way. Loved it.

I would’ve loved seeing Sutekh scratch the face of the tardis, his claws almost did!

Loved the episode, perfect timing to have Sutekh back. Never saw this coming, was in shock afterwards but so happy!

On the last episode when they are rewatching in the Time Window when the doctor comes out of the tardis the door is left open when he come back the door is closed so it the woman pointing at the tardis!

Loving this new season. Loving the cast. The stories are pretty fun, though they better figure out how to rescue Rogue. (Don't make me buy a plane ticket and fly over there just to bite the writers.) 😆 Loving the show otherwise .❤

Can I point out something that could be a slight giveaway at 4:03 / 4:05 .. In the Time Window Setup there is a VFX layout with likenesses of the characters whilst in the window. One shot sees the VFX with the hooded figure, and then shortly after (in a kind of blink and you may miss it), there is a VFX of a woman with the Hood Down, with what looks like white hair

i would love to see that unreal engine spot in VR to just experience it. hell. make it a game where the doctor needs your help. you need to stand still for this to do this so its PERFECT

ngl i think they could have done the tardis vfx if they put it on a rail/rig, cg’d out the track and had the tardis be geared to spark as it skid
