This episode was phenomenal! Best of the RTD 2 era in my opinion. I forgot that when Stephen Moffat isn’t writing his own long-form story, which he’s kind of bad at, when he’s just writing episodic one-offs, he’s a fantastic writer. This is some of the most Doctor Who-esque dialogue we’ve ever had. It was filled with so much tension. My shoulders still hurt. And it was filled with all of Moffat’s classics: religious soldiers, evil robots, faltering tech. And it finally felt like Ruby had a defining moment as a companion in defying the Doctor by handing him the casket and not tossing it. I also loved the inclusion of the “Skye Boat Song.” Does anyone know what the Doctor was saying about the dead president and his wife? Was he quoting something or is that another clue to this season’s mystery box?

Moffat's work got me into this show, and in turn gave me everything I got out of it. It was the thing that helped me gain an appreciation for sci fi the art of scoring a scene, acting, and embracing geekdom. He was behind the seasons of television that comforted me at my darkest hour. Now he's gotten me to revisit this show and reflect on who I've been. Fir that, he'll always be one of my favorite writers. "The universe often fails to be a fairytale, but that's where we come in."

Personally disagree with your assessment that this is the only good thing to come out of RTD's new era so far (seriously Wild Blue Yonder was a masterclass in the bizarre but potent type of horror that Doctor Who excels at capturing) but I will agree that this is indeed Fifteen's best episode thus far. More than made up for The Devil's Chord imo (wasn't awful but imo it was a bit of a letdown and the Beatles felt like they were an afterthought)

If you didn't automatically go 'Harry, I'm standing on a landmine' then are you even a fan? It actually took me a while to get to grips with it and I initially thought it was just going to be mostly about the landmine. But this is a Moffat story. I should have known better. And I really liked the idea of weapons being sold to create wars. Because that relationship is already a perfect circle.

I had trouble with this episode. mostly with the CHARACTER Splice. they could have done better with her. but it felt like after she brought Mundy, she went totally ditzy. not really taking into consideration what was happening or the danger she was in. other than that still a good episode.

@@formyartproject6604 I wasn't a massive fan of either of those episodes. Midnight was good but I thought this was better. I really liked this episode, not as good as, for example, Blink, Silence in the Library or The Empty Child, but still great.

This was mostly a bottle episode, but with really good drama. We don't know if an explosion would truly kill the Doctor permanently or he would just regenerate, so it's conveyed that he if blows up it it's going to be big. I would have liked a line that ruled out using the sonic "screwdriver" (I think it's more like a sonic remote at this point). Other than that, a strong outing!
