Behind The Scenes at ABC7 News This Morning.mov

I put this short video together, showing just a bit of how we put our 2 1/2 hour morning newscast together at ABC7 Chicago - the purpose was to share as part of a presentation I was asked to give at a high school broadcasting class! I thought others might get a kick out of it as well!!

    Merry Christmas, you guys! My father was in paper media, as a journalist, photographer, editor, owner, as were his mother and father, Mary Allensworth and Walter Creighton. These latter started the Galesburg Post and Knoxville (Illinois) Journal on or around 1924. I find what you guys and gals do very interesting. Please, have a Happy New Year and much success in broadcasting what is vital and essential to know and discuss. People, please hold your news media accountable to report what we, the people, need to know: not only the weather, the traffic, but also the news (what happens) and wherever possible to delve into what the powers that be are up to. ABC7, you guys do a great job. Keep up the good work. Again, Merry Christmas!

    Nice. I've been watching WLS' newscasts since the (later) days of Fahey Flynn & Joel Daly. Yes, I remember when they were "Eyewitness News" & didn't have a morning newscast. I still do watch the newscasts, even the mornings if I can drag my butt outta bed while they're still on.

    I remember just a couple weeks back from April 19th, 2012 that I was by the State St. Station, my mom wanted us to get on the news. I remember she begged one of the workers to get us on. We got on during the weather. It was cold and I was wearing shorts. It was near April first, or April 2nd of 2012 I can't remember. So for that minute, my mom helped change something, my guess is they weren't thinking they were gonna show outside of State St. But I don't know.

    Yes, WLS-TV Channel 7 had AM-Chicago for a number of years. It was hosted by Rob Weller in the late 70s and early 80s. Then in 1984, Oprah Winfrey took over AM-Chicago and started crafting what became the Oprah Winfrey Show when it started syndication in 1986.

    You just have to forgive or excuse my ignorance, but: is this like THE local station of Chicago? (National or local television in America differs a lot compared to that in my country, The Netherlands, so it's really hard to grasp the whole station-call thing). If it is a local station, that's just really awesome. There is only a handfull of local televisions stations in my country comparable to do this kind of coverage on news (and I really do mean a handfull, maybe 3 or 4). Even though this video was really nice and informative (I liked that it had really good audio!) I would've liked to see the switcher/producer doing his work in the control room.

    Each TV market usually has one affiliate per network for each of the four major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox). Sometimes there will be small network affiliates or independent networks as well (WGN in Chicago, for instance).

    Why do so many ABC TV stations appear to be on channel 7?

  • @jasonmcdaniel345

    @jasonmcdaniel345

    6 жыл бұрын

    There are more channel 7 stations on the ABC affiliate list than other station numbers, but not a bunch more. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ABC_television_affiliates_(table) Most stations will be between 2 and 13 because those were the coveted VHF stations back when everyone was using analog TVs to get over-the-air broadcasts. 7 is probably more highly sought after because it is considered a lucky number. Likewise, I'd imagine 13 is only chosen as a last resort.
