Behind the Scenes 2011: CrossFit Games, Part 1

Спорт

Join Sevan Matossian as he follows athletes, judges, spectators, and staff at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, providing a look at what goes on before, during, and after the events. In Part 1, Matossian chronicles the first event of the weekend: Beach.
Director of Training Dave Castro arrives at the Santa Monica Pier early Friday morning. The athletes assemble and provide their impressions of the event ahead of them.
"The challenge is going to be, are you going to panic while you're out there or are you just going to do what you're supposed to do? You trained all year for this thing, man. The last thing you want to do is have your head get in a weird space," CrossFit flowmaster and Games judge Chuck Carswell says.
Before the event begins, Josh Bridges questions his chances of winning.
"This is out of my comfort zone, so we'll see how it goes," he says. "I hate running and swimming, so it should be pretty fun."
After finishing the challenge in third place with a big smile on her face, original nasty girl Annie Sakamoto says, "To me, this is the epic way to kick the whole thing off: at the beach, in the saltwater. I couldn't ask for more."

I see myself like the athlete who coudn't finish swimming . It all started one day when i decided to swim deep the ocean and got tired inside and panicked because strong current. Now i still those panic attacks when i swim deep the ocean , it just happened last summer and it sucks especially for someone who has been swimming endurance since the age of 10 .

Because it stirs up traditional thinking of working out with strict proper form, and it messes with so many different grand sports like weightlifting and gymnastics and puts it into one bowl. That is fact, but that is also why it is so damn funny! :) (a small part may also be old fashioned envy)

Well, drug tested and drug free are two different things. Just because they test doesn't mean they enforce anything. I am not hating and yes this type of training has been tested many times with high level athletes. The science doesn't change on how the body reacts to this type of training. This event in the video is an endurance event, no doubt. They are actually the size of many true natural bodybuilders, just not as lean.

A real natural bodybuilder couldn't do this much endurance work and hope to maintain any size. You would have to use some type of sports performance drug to inhibit the affects of the stress hormones. That is why there are various modes of training to achieve different goals such as strength, power, endurance and hypertrophy.

  • @UncleLouis1

Why? What you don't understand is that crossfit is about movement efficiency, how efficiently can you lift you weight above a bar. Your claim would be like saying "Using your hips to throw a ball or punch is stupid as fuck".

  • @Siedlerdeo
    @Siedlerdeo11 жыл бұрын

Because you see much higher injury statistics, compared to regular weightlifting. Most people would consider that "ok" as long as crossfit brings something that weightlifting and cardio doesn't. Sadly it doesn't, plus most crossfit advocates act like cult members, listening blindly and hating others (just like everyone does that are close minded lol)

Yes there is hard work involved here with these guys, no doubt. The fact remains that some of these guys are on something. You can get lean and ripped doing Crossfit but you can't maintain any size. What would be interesting is to track some of their body fat/lean tissue over the course of a year doing this type of training. Sorry, you can't maintain muscular size doing endurance work and that is what this is. Steroids will blunt the negative effects of this type of training. Do they test?

This is hilarious. Your muscles don't have conscious thoughts. The reason for splitting exercises is so the muscles have time to rest and rebuild while you work a different group. That way when you go back to working those muscles you can put your 100% in again.

Cross fit alone will not make you look very aesthetic. It is obvious these cross fitters do some bodybuilding style lifts to remain looking this way. If you did crossfit only, you would not look like you actually train. Just my belief.

Naah man. The combo of medium/high rep wods mixed with their powerlifting will get you jacked. Strength Training alone will put on considerable mass. Deadlifting, squatting, pressing, oly lifting, they do everything through a variety of rep ranges. Try it for a year.

This could quite possibly be one of the "Unhealthy" sports out there. Taking Anabolic Steroids, and grossly overtraining are not exactly healthy. Please look at these guys and gals....they are from "Natty"! I used to compete as a natural bodybuilder...and yes I won shows. With the aforementioned being said, I respect guys like Rich Fronin, and Baily. They undoubtedly work there tails off, however I wonder how their bodies will respond 10 years down the road?
