Behind The BA1110D Chapter 4 Tourbillon

A few months ago we had the visit of Thomas Baillod who was extremely proud of presenting us his rather ambitious project of developing a Swiss Made tourbillon timepiece for less than 5’000 Swiss francs. Though he showed us a prototype, things were pretty much still laying on paper but in a matter of only a few months his vision became reality with the first production models being now delivered.
Naturally we wanted to know a bit more about this and we had the opportunity of visiting some of the suppliers involved in this project to discuss with them their involvement and what does this Chapter 4 timepiece represents for them and why they participated in making it happen.
One of the main reason why prices could be contained as such is because of the distribution model developed by Thomas Baillod, meaning that you can only order this watch directly on their website (ba111od.com/collections/chapt...) but it does go a little more beyond this as he had explained in this previous video ( • 100% Swiss Made Tourb... ).

Really nicely done
Today I have received my BA111OD Chapter 4 Tourbillon. I have booked it right after watching your video on BA111OD back in November 2021. I must say that I would have never considered to order the watch, until hearing from you. The watch is nice and whole project is quite extraordinary so... thank you 👍👍👍

@@howardyang1397 I am in Italy. I think that the shipment date is related to the production lot and my watch was in the first one. By the way I made a small video on my watch that you can find here on youtube seaching for "BA111OD".
Another great video Marc Andrea. In our quick chat yesterday I mentioned that maybe one day, high end watchmaking maybe available for less, and today you have given an example of it. Thanks

Amazing what he is doing, I own a Chapter One along with some other very expensive watches but the Baillod is one of the most satisfying.

Same here... and funny I've gotten almost zero compliments on my expensive watches but my Chapter 1 has gotten quite a few compliments.

Superb video, superb
Nice, the more "affordable" tourbillon the better. After Horage last year and now this one, good job to them.
I love this watch and their other watches. The only thing I worry when considering buying one of these tourbillon watches, is since they are a new company, I'd worry they might go out of business and then you'd have trouble getting parts/service on the watches. The other thing I think they could do better is the way they sell them. A lot of people are turned off by the Alfuender sales model and call it a pyramid scheme so they automatically refuse to take their amazing watch seriously. I personally think it's cool what they're doing, but it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the general watch buying public thinks that will keep them in business. Cool watches and ideas none the less.

@@WATCHESTVcom thanks I'll take that into consideration I really like these. I have one of their cheaper models and really like it.
I wonder if the 44mm case size has anything to do with the low price... it's surely got to make parts easier to produce. It might also explain why they still have watches available to purchase, since the hottest part of the market right now is mostly sub 40mm!

I may have missed it but what material is the balance spring made from? If it’s not something a-magnetic then I wouldn’t really want to put my phone anywhere near it for the whole NFC thing. Hopefully they’ve thought that bit through though.

The case is 43mm correct? Do you know what the lug to lug is? I feel this is out of my size range on my skinny wrist. The ladies piece they made was 40mm and that seems like a great size lol.
I was just about to buy one but then I had a realization - the tourbillon is nowadays a more artistic complication than a technical one. Therefore, buying a “Costco” version of a tourbillon seems somewhat off. I don’t mean to play down the importance of what they’ve been able to achieve, it just isn’t something I’d personally buy. After all, I believe there are Chinese tourbillon watches for 500 USD, so this isn’t quite the cheapest tourbillon out there. Best of luck to them though

I agree, nothing wrong with Chinese tourbillons but if I’m paying 5k I expect it to be superior to a Chinese tourbillon

You can get a Chinese tourbillon for around $260. But the quality isn't great. This I'd hope would have much better quality than the Chinese ones. I wouldn't consider this Costco version of a tourbillon. It may be mostly machine made but so is Rolex.
Looks very cool to me. Quality seems very high for the price.
Is very sad but its not more espectacular than a 1000usd Chinese TOURBILLON

Today is very easy to build watches with CMC machinery but it's very hard to put a brain tru your hands in reality. Kind regards A simple driver....van driver 🔬⌚️
