I’ve known the chords for this song for 30 years, but I’ve always just randomly picked the notes, and never the same ones.😂 Thank you Howard for showing me how to play this awesome song the “right” way!

Enjoyed it very much Howard. Pete was a major influence when I picked up a guitar 50 years ago. Great lesson, and thank you for “seeing you next time” and refraining from smashing your beautiful guitar to pieces.

Superb lesson. The song I'd like most like to play properly by The Who is "Sunrise" from 'The Who Sell Out'. I'm nearly there, (from tabs, knowing the song well etc) but no-one has done a lesson on it!

So many great songs from “Sell Out.” I like the quirky “Tattoo,” and of course “I Can See For Miles.” But you can’t forget the beauty of “Sunrise.”

@@MrFarkosh I just had another go at it - it's an incredibly beautiful song and with a bit more practice I should be able to play the little interlude with the triplets. "Sell Out" could possibly be my favourite album of all time! "Tattoo" is marvellous; also "Odorono" (who but Pete could write a song about BO??) but I think my favourite is the alternative version of "Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand". "I Can See For Miles" - their best single?

Man I've been waiting a long time for an accurate lesson on this Who masterpiece, thank you! One dumb question: why do you emphasize picking direction so much for the cross-picking parts? I had learned some of those parts using slightly different picking directions from how you specify, and wondering if it's worthwhile to re-learn them. Is it just to make chord transitions easier? Economy of motion? something else?

It's not a "dumb question" at all. Cross-picking is very flexible... It has a lot of variations and different ways to approach it. I like to think there are no definite rules :-) I always say "do whatever works best for you". But the main thing is to have your pick swinging toward the next string, rather than away from it - Howard
