Week 4 of Karen Pryor Academy’s: Training Outside of the Box with Sarah Rodriguez.
In this video Taylor and Sachi are practicing the beginning of Side, Heel & Turning In Heel while being in a rolling chair. This week’s homework required students to be in a chair to help them conceptualize being in a wheelchair and considerations that need to be made for clients in wheelchairs while teaching these skills.
For example, we do not want the dogs to Heel too close, for that would put them at risk of getting caught by a wheel. We especially want the dogs to keep distance while turning.
Taylor is using a lure to keep Sachi at a distance and to try to shape these skills.
