“Beginning Of An Ideological Push!” Protests Rage In Georgia Amid Passing Of ‘Foreign Agents’ Bill
Talk’s Jeremy Kyle is joined by international border control expert Henry Bolton to discuss the ongoing protests in Georgia.
Georgia’s parliament passed the final reading of a “foreign agents” bill, clearing a major hurdle on its way to becoming law.
It would require organisations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as agents of foreign influence, imposing disclosure requirements and fines for violations.
Opponents have dubbed the bill “the Russian law”, comparing it to Russian legislation used to target critics of the Kremlin.
Henry explains that Georgia has “been moving towards an internationalist approach” but this new law could be “the beginning of an ideological push”.
He continues: “The law has been used in Russia as an excuse to close down human rights organisations, independent media and anyone who receives funding from abroad.”

I once opposed similar laws been implemented by African countries, i see how necessary and relevant they are now --- going by the western experience of how corporate media and elites can be co-opted to state narratives and anti-populist actions.... whats wrong with financial accountability if you have nothing to hide about who's funding you....???
