Beginners Van Mistakes to Avoid | Vanlife

We wanted to go over the Mistakes we have made and how to AVOID them if you are looking to get into a Van yourself or when you go to buy a new van/building your own van.
You DONT need anything to start out just grab everything from your house and you will be set!
Make sure you use your van before you order anything! Its always good to test and see what you need because you think you might need something and you dont need it!

@amandaandwhit I wait for the RTX 2000. I will prepare the cables in the Isolation and keep the space on the roof free in the back. Not possible without AC

@@HappyTheorythat’s great! We have 1 maxxair fan and a AC unit. We been thinking about putting a slimmer unit on top for that since we don’t use it as much!

All great tips! Can 100% confirm that you should be prepared for things to not go according to plan 😂 Also, yeah, as a first-time van-lifer I had zero idea which upgrades would be necessary at first. Upgrading as you go is absolutely the way. That being said, some Revel upgrades turned out to be *absolute* game changers! It's funny to look back and think "wow, life was so hard back then" 😄

There has been so many times things don’t go as planned even for us going to camp 1 night! We definitely had things we got and have been like this is amazing and will never not have it too! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

Spot on video about not pre-buying things for the van. I wasted so much money buying "recommended" things that I'm not ever going to use. I'm a state park camper, which means well maintained roads. When I'm feeling adventurous, I'll do dispersed camping in a Florida Water district. I don't need winches, fancy air compressors, or heavy-duty recovery equipment beyond levelers. BTW, how are the frolis working out for you?

Yeah it’s all depends on your use and you don’t know what that is until you actually use it! We are loving it makes the bed nice and soft since we’re both side/tummy sleepers! We’re also going to check out Canyon Adventure vans luxe mattress in April when the Adventure van expo comes to Scottsdale,AZ.

Yes! That’s is a really good tip! It can realistically only take so much weight and getting the front and rear axel weighed is something you should do when fully loaded with water and everything! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

Not pre-purchasing is a good tip. I'm planning on installing a hydronic heater, but because I'm planning on buying my van 2nd hand, I can't make any assumptions about what options it'll include, or even if it'll be diesel or gasoline. I need to have it sitting in my garage before I can go ahead with any plans.

There are something’s if you know for sure your going to use you should buy like the heater! We see it more with extra things like the storage or items you can do without for a few trips to figure out your rig. Like we knew we have to get a new mattress but we had to wait and figure out the best one for us! Thanks for watching! 😊

@@amandaandwhit Yes indeed, but if the van already has an engine heater I can hook into, I just saved myself $1000+! Thank for the reply! I'll keep watching 😄 Edit: I'm quite far north, so it's somewhat likely a 2nd hand van would have one. It''s right at the edge. I can buy one now, but if one's already fitted, I would've spent a lot of money for no reason.

Thanks for the heart, by the way, I don't mean it to be mean. I'm personally using a Ford explorer to build a stealth camper. Those vans are larger, but the premium is not worth it for a single person like me.
