Hi Douglas, thanks for this! I'm wondering, if you play the Nord and record it, are you listening back to the speakers on your right? Or do you have a different set of speakers in front of you? I am thinking about a good setup and struggling a bit :)

Hi, i am using a audient id14 mkii and yamaha hs5 with my nord stage 3 but i am not getting a sound output in the studio monitors, i am trying to record it in stereo so i am using two TS Cables that connects nord’s ch 1 & 2 to audient’s main line output (1&2) and then i am using two TRS to XLR Cables that connect interface to speaker from interface’s (1L & 2R) to XLR port in yamaha hs5, Are the connections right?

Hey Douglas, my name's Harry and I just discovered your channel! I wonder if you have made a video that teaches the actual Pro Tools set up to record the keyboard (the actual sound you're getting from the keyboard) to Pro Tools? As you described in this video, you like the sound from your particular keyboard and want to capture that in Pro Tools. I'm a bit of a novice at this but I wonder if you're setting Pro Tools up with a MIDI track, instrument track, or audio track in order to get the actual keyboard recording. In my case, my keyboard MIDI goes into my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and from there into my iMac via USB. I'm having some difficulty understanding how I actually get those sounds recorded into Pro Tools. Do you have a video or resource on that? Thank you in advance. I've just subscribed to your channel and looking forward to learning from you! Thank you.

I have a quick question. I've recorded my Nord into a Scarlet 2i2 Interface in Logic Pro on Mac, and I made sure the highest peak in the recording was just under -10db. There's no clipping - but it is very quiet when exported. How do I increase the volume to a normal level while still avoiding clipping? Do I use compression, or is there another trick? Thanks for the video.

I have multiple keyboards for my setup. Many of them are old keyboards such as DX11, Juno1 or DW8000. How do I use them with todays recording equipment such as a setup like yours? Sometimes I Play 2 keyboards at one time. I do have 1 modern keyboard from Yamaha a motiif. I have a Presonus audio interface. I'm not sure how to set everything up to get started recording.

How do you incorporate a mic into this set up? My wife wants to be able to record her Nord Stage 3 along with her voice? How does it hook up? Thank you for this video!

I'm no expert but you can do that with a sound card that has more than two inputs, pretty much the keyboard would be in the first two inputs and the mic on the third one. If you only have two inputs, you can switch the Nord Stage to mono and use one input for the keyboard and the second one for the mic

Thanks Douglas! This got me quite far, but I'm stuck - please, please help. I'm missing some quality, too. I have a digital piano (Roland HP605) connected to my Mac with a USB cable (MIDI ?), some DAWs (on trial), kontact 7 player and some paid-for piano VSTs 🥴, but no audio interface, yet. Do I need one, what's the difference 🤦🏽‍♂️? How do I get the Roland to play the sound of the VST in the DAW back through the digital piano speakers, or some awesome home speakers, or just back through my headphones, in highest quality? At the moment Ive just plugged my headphones into my Mac and I'm listening to it through there (not great). Desperate for some advice and any info, including any useful details. Is it because I'm going Digital piano -> Mac, and not Digital piano -> Audio interface -> Mac? What's the correct chain, where do speakers/headphones come in? 🙏 Love your chanel, it's inspired me 🙌

Jai, 1. Most of your concerns can be addressed by using an audio interface, especially if you plan on recording your music, not just playing it. 2. I just downloaded the manual of your digital piano and it does have 2 outputs (left & right, 1/4-inch type) which would be used to connect to 2 inputs on the audio interface using two 1/4" cables (these piano ouputs can also be used to connect to 2 external speakers.) 3. The USB connection you have between your piano and your computer should allow you to playback MIDI through your piano speakers, but not audio files I believe. 4. For audio files (WAV, mp3, etc) to be played back on your piano speakers, a USB flash drive (often called "USB stick") containing such files can be plugged into your piano (it does have a USB memory port). All you have to do is copy the audio files from your computer to the USB stick. 5. Now to play audio from your computer directly on your piano speakers without using a USB stick, I think you need to connect an audio cable from your computer's soundcard output jack to the piano's input jack (it does have one according to the manual). This cable is 1/8-inch type (it has a mini stereo plug on each end). 6. Yes, the correct chain is digital piano---->audio interface---->computer. Also, most audio interfaces these days have a headphone jack with a volume knob. So everything you play back or play in real time can be heard through it. I think your piano headphone jack can only be used to play the piano in real time, and maybe, when doing what I mentioned in 3, 4, and 5. Experiment and see. 7. According to what I read on the manual, you can also record you music (as audio) directly to a USB stick, which is fantastic. You'd then play your music back on the computer, post it online, send it to friends, etc. Everything I wrote above is based on info on a diagram on page 23 of the PDF manual of your piano. If you don't have the manual, it's available on the Roland website at this link: www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/hp605/owners_manuals/3311feb4-7730-48c3-9f68-a4b88b9c6f4e/ Best of luck.

You can adjust the volume on the DAW/recording software so that when recording, the sound will be within a safe range. Hope that helps.

I think it's one of the grand piano sounds. They're also adjustable with options on the Nord for reverb etc.

I didn't understand that AT ALL Am I the only one here?, I played classical PIANO my whole life, 'new to this....??? You lost me at "analogue," at "you have to have 2 speakers...? WHAT ARE THOSE? WHY? WHAT is "Da?"....etc. What's the GOAL? --to HEAR it all FROM THE COMPUTER ITSELF? or to run the data through a computer ultimately to P.A. Speakers?....? The presentation would work much better for me if you SHOWED us, STEP BY STEP--play the note, hook up something, show/tell why that thing works or doesn't, compare different interfaces, etc.
