Got sick and tired of the lockdown nonsense in my home state, decided to go flyfishing again which I have not done so much in the last few years. Bought a new Moonshine Epiphany 10', 2wt and set out to try euro nymphing on a premiere tailwater and wow, what a difference! Took a couple trips to get a good handle on the technique, but then I had the epiphany, and now tightline nymphing has reignighted my interest in flyfishing and I am enjoying it as much as when I first started years ago. Cheers.

I stumbled on one of your videos about 3 weeks ago where you and IB were alternating fishing- enjoyed it; since I started tight line nymphing here in New England about a year ago, I have learned a lot by trial and error, as well as from some U.S. made films. Having enjoyed your other video, I decided to watch your first one on "frenchie leaders". Well done. I'll be watching # 2 later today. I find I pick up a lot by watching and your explanations are very clear. I am also someone who gets "stuck in " to a new passion and reads and watches whatever he can find of an instructional nature!. I've found I can sort through different presentations, find what makes sense to me, ignore what doesn't, and then trial and error teaches the rest. I admit to often coming back and trying to relearn or absorb what I ignored. LOL. Thanks for a very clear and cogent presentation.

Hi Andy & IB, I hope you’re well. A video similar to this in regards to various set ups for dry flies, wet flies & nymphs would be great - which parts of the river to look out for (fast/slow/deep/shallow etc) and how to use those different flies according to the situation you’re in. With being new to the sport and not speaking to many people in person due to lockdown I’m struggling to understand whether or not I’m actually using the correct rig/method/fly for the situation that I’m in. All of your videos are really useful and I have learnt an awful lot of from you guys in such a little time - thanks for your dedication and help to the sport. Thanks!

Another really easy to understand video, Andy. I've been French nymphing for 5 or 6 years now but was initially very confused by the fact every vlog I looked at described it as a long range nymphing method. However, you correctly say it is short to medium method. I started 'Czech' nymphing but now use the longer leader for both short and medium range fishing and although it took a long time to 'click' once I kept everything in line and just got to hold bottom for a steady drift, it made perfect sense (and caught me a lot more fish!). Thanks for a great video.

@@andylamude3932 when I'm fishing really small streams (like ones you can jump over), I actually let the terrain dictate the rod choice. Meaning if I'm fishing really overgrown areas with overhanging trees, I prefer a shorter rod for the maneuverability bonus as opposed to a long 10'+ rod. If a stream is fairly clear of vegetation or other obstacles, using the longer rod is always an advantage because of the extra reach you can get.

Wow...can’t wait to see part 2. I fished my first euro leader attempt yesterday trying it out on my 5 wt 9 foot rod. I really enjoyed the detailed look at your casting technique. I also liked how you attached the individual fly tippets with a tippet ring to the common tippet. I was following a pattern for the attachment of the top fly using a triple surgeon knot. Much harder to manage. If you can use a brighter sight that would show up better in the video it would be much appreciated. Thanks for sharing.

Well one, I think that this is one of the most clear and sensible presentations on these Euro techniques. Detailed enough and not obviously punting specific brands. I am not sure I agree with the use of fluorocarbon tippet, but everyone to his own. Very nice, informative video..

@@IBandAndyFishing Again, great video, I have watched a lot of fishing and casting videos, many are not that informative and simply filled with brand punting and excessive enthusiasm whilst lacking in real knowledge. I liked this two part series a lot. As to the fluorocarbon issue there are a few points. Firstly for the most part fluoro has a higher diameter for the same B/S, and to me the very slight (even questionable) advantage of visibility is negated by that. One of the most critical elements of getting the flies down and keeping them there in fast current is tippet diameter. Secondly I find it unreliable, break offs for no apparent reason. In the end I think that the extreme cost of fluoro' and it's unreliability combined with minimal possible advantages in terms of visibility don't add up. Currently I uses Stroft GTM for almost all of my stream fishing. Although I do a great deal more dry fly than nymphing. Opinions do seem to vary and the people most happy with fluoro seem to be the saltwater guys, where thickness of tippet may well mean an advantage in terms of visibility. For freshwater work I don't use it anymore. You may enjoy a blog post of mine from some time back paracaddis.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/fluorocarbon/ Kindest regards

Excellent video, I'm keen to learn this type of fishing and you've explained it beautifully. On to the next one and then off to the river I go...albeit with my existing fly rod which isn't the weight or length you recommend but I live in the sticks so I'll have to use what I've got for now!

Congratulations, Andy! I was taught Euro nymphing three years ago by a former member of Italian national team and it really changed dramatically my life as an angler. Your explanations are very clear and you are an excellent communicator: you really were able to expose all the basic points in the most pleasant and encouraging way. Maybe I have just a little regret: your sighter (or bicolor) is nearly invisible in the video and it takes away much of the fun, because seeing the sudden tension of the line is very exciting - just like seeing the bite of a fish on the surface when dry fishing. Again, congratulations and keep up the good work! Thank you
