Beginner Watercolor Crystals Tutorial in 4 Easy Steps! + Sleep to My Art: Relaxing Sleepytime ASMR!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here's another beginner watercolor tutorial where I show step-by-step how to accomplish your own crystals. I mix realtime and timelapse video here to provide an in-depth look at my process in the shortest time possible. Includes realtime voice instruction as I'm creating the first one, and timelapse for the repeated tasks.
This video also serves as another installment to the Sleep to my Art series: it contains mellow voice with environmental art-making sounds. There's no loud talking, which makes it a great choice for trying to sleep, relax, or enjoy some ASMR (if that's the type you like).
Materials used in this video in order of appearance:
1" Oval Mop (which I didn't use): amzn.to/2HDNlBe
1/2" Flat Wash: amzn.to/2CCTPvQ
#8 Round: amzn.to/2TpB2db
#6 Round: amzn.to/2Ykg576
#4 Round: amzn.to/2YloIOA
#0 Round: amzn.to/2YfWzsx
Set of drawing pencils: amzn.to/2YiPR4V
Eraser and Sharpener: amzn.to/2OmfD3H
Watercolors: amzn.to/2UOCSG4
Plate for palette and two cups are washed and reused items from a party; use any cups and palette you have handy.
Flexible Transparent Ruler: amzn.to/2UYThrD
Watercolor Paper: amzn.to/2upSpR1
White Gouache: amzn.to/2OpjRax
Pearlescent Shimmer: amzn.to/2Ylimz4
Find salt locally in your grocery store; any variety of salt will work. I used table salt.
Please note all the links above are amazon affiliate links: I get a few cents when someone purchases something from these links. That small income goes toward funding things like new art supplies for my videos.
Also note, I only use synthetic brushes in my videos, but you can use real animal hair if you prefer. This is a personal choice, but I find synthetic hair brushes work beautifully for me. I've provided the exact items I used.

I felt that the rose quartz stood out from the rest, but they're all beautiful. You have a wonderful way of making the crystals seem organic and natural. This is definitely helping me on my crystal and gemstone journey.

Please don't feel the need to compare your work to mine. I feel very strongly about this (and made a rant video about this a long time ago). Compare your old work to your current work and see how you've improved!

Thank you so much for doing so much of this in real time and with longer explanations for why you're doing things! I'm a beginner and I'm finding it really hard to find tutorials that go into the detail I need. I really like the reflects on the emerald and moonstone -- it's amazing that you can do this instinctively without following a reference image. I was most impressed, however, by the way you seemed to be able to just keep adding and blending without getting backruns, picking up paint etc. I'm having a hard time with my blends -- either they backrun or they just don't blend, even wet on wet! Do you have any idea what's causing my problem? Is it that you're using better materials/tools? Or is it about technique? Thank you in advance if you see this and answer!
