    I discovered, long ago, that the needle for a Novolog FlexPen is the same length as that of the syringes Omnipod provides. So I just load the pod directly from my FlexPen. I don't have to worry about getting air in the syringe, and it's easier to see exactly how much insulin I'm loading into the pod. Besides that, keeping FlexPens around means I have an easy way to inject insulin, if anything happens to my pod, and I don't have a ready replacement with me.

    I contacted customer service after my daughter's controller would not connect and after a long wait, I left a message for them to call back. The message I got was that they would call back in 2 or 3 days, but I never heard from them. After trying a second time to get thru, I left a message again after the 2 or 3 days phone message, I never heard back. I had one reprensentative email me but nothing really happened. After my daughter went into DKA and ended up in the hospital, the reps at the hospital got me some help from Jennie Edwards. She made an appointment with me to do a Zoom meeting to help set up the equipment. The appointment is on November 30. I made that appointment on November 18! At least I have some interaction. Time will tell if we ever get the thing to work. Good luck with yours!

  • @typ3me

    @typ3me

    First I want to start by saying that I am sorry and a bit angry about what you have had to encounter because of a lack of better customer care from Omnipod 5. I empathize with your situation and hope your daughter is doing well. I just don't understand how corporations this large can do so well in their technology yet so poorly in simple communication and service. I've been on this device for about 3 months now and have really grown to love it. Yet it was rough and very disappointing initially; it has become quite useful. My barometer when measuring how well a medical device like this works is by measuring the amount of time I have to worry about its reliability. I can honestly say that lately I never think about it. I truly hope that @Omnipod calls you back soon and makes this right for you. In my opinion, if you can get this device dialed in, it will benefit your daughter immensely. Thank you for the comments and good luck.

    Thanks, really clear video. There's one thing I don't understand with the tech and maybe someone has the answer. I'm told by our healthcare that the Dexcom G6 can't talk to both the Dexcom and Omnipod 5 receiver's but can talk to a Omnipod receiver and a Dexcom compatible phone. Why is this, what's the difference between the receiver/receiver and receiver/phone combinations?

  • @typ3me

    @typ3me

    5 ай бұрын

    The main difference is certain phones are capable of sending and receiving signals from both the ombioid and g6 at the same time. The receivers do not. If your looking to find a list of the phones that are MOST compatible I've made a helpful video. Hope this helps. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4eLypJ_qqm3dKw.htmlsi=bdBgSwQhw7Mya02_

    T1 51 yrs. Getting Omnipod 5 next month after a long wait (UK). Re minimising the air bubbles...the Omnipart vid says to place the vial on a flat surface then inject air from the syringe from the top before inverting the syringe and vial (with the syringe still in the vial) so the syringe is under the vial and then draw insulin into the syringe. This way your not injecting air into the insulin in the vial creating bubbles. Thanks for the vid and tips

    Hi Jennifer. The Omnipod 5 is an insulin pump that delivers medicine. It is capable of working with another device that reads your sugar called the Dexcom G6. If you have both devices, they will talk with each other to keep you in range. When you set up the Dexcom g6, it will allow you to read your sugar levels from a pdm or cell phone without having to prick your fingers. Do you have a Dexcom yet?

    T1D for 26years & been using old school syringe & vial. Some basic questions before I explore this option. 1) On a scale 1-10, how uncomfortable is it? From being totally free to now having something attached to your body? 2) I read about the automate feature, does it auto calculate insulin for you and pumps insulin after meal or you still have to calculate calories and manually enter? 3) I heard you say, it lasts for about 10days, do we take it off to refill only or something else also needs to be replaced? Much thanks for your help.

    Great questions. I'll do my vest to give you honest feedback. 1. The device seems bulky, much bigger than a g6. Sobcimfort depends on placement especially what type of sleeper you are. I thrash about in my sleep so I wear it on my triceps. That spot is comfortable enough that I gave had 2 in by accident and never noticed. Three second one was deactivated 2. Even though the pod will adjust your basil insulin to match your needs, it Will not do so for meals. That still requires you to do so manually. If your meal time bolus is off it will help to correct it 3. It has a 3 day wear time with a 8hr grace period. Hope this helps

    @@typ3me Yep. The obvious issue with keeping them close is that your Omnipod moves three times, for every one time you swap out your Dexcom. So it's not really practical to have them right next to each other, throughout the Dexcom's life. Of course, I could easily find shift locations slightly without moving the pod to a different arm, but that seems like a great way to irritate my skin. 😏

Is there a way to run the omnipod and dexcom both off the omnipod reader? Or do you have to use phone to have them communicate? In this video, I used the controller that came with the starter pack. It looks like a smartphone but it is not. Unfortunately, if you want to run the Dexcom g6 and Omni5 off the same device, you must utilize a compatible smartphone. I use the Samsung S21. Hi Vicky, congrats on the pregnancy. I have 3 of my own. I will honestly, the omnipod 5 is a really smart device. It adapts well to your needs. As a type one, I have experienced fewer episodes of low blood sugar while on the device, which is the scariest part of having to take insulin to control blood glucose. Good luck to you and your baby.

    Why would you aerate the insulin with the syringe? You keep the bottle upright and introduce the air from the syringe BEFORE turning it upside down and drawing the liquid. Gives much less chance of an occlusion forming in the pod. And swabbing the insulin tip is pointless. After putting the needle in the pod you should flick a few times to bring any air bubbles away from the pod port, so that they aren't forced inside when you press the plunger.

    Hello Ben my names Roxanne & I've been diabetic for 23 years and been on various pumps for 21 of those years. Today I'm switching from an omnipod dash to an omnipod 5. No one seems to know how to link those two up to my Android phone with real time numbers. Right now I'm carrying 3 devices. My phone, my omnipod transmitter (old phone) & my CGM. I was told I can use my phone for reading real numbers & CGM numbers so I don't have to carry all 3. Any help you can give me? I've tried several different apps on my phone. Currently have the clarity app. But I can't get real time numbers off of it. And it's currently as of today giving me Jan 30 readings & graphs. HELP... PLEASE!!

    I'm frustrated. I have the new O.5. Have had the classic for about 10 years, the G6 for a few years.... I live in an area with NO cell coverage.. SO, I have an older iTouch 6 I use via wifi, with an APP for phone calls. Obviously, too old to use with New Omnipod. Was LED to believe, thought Omnipod TOLD me I could use the New PDM, Whatever We're calling it this week, to connect the CGM. If not, WHY would I drop SERIOUS $ on a cell that won't work when I'm home? Dr's office said O 5 Couldn't connect to 2 devices at the same time. Pod and CGM. May bite Dr's head off if assumed I would buy New device, Make Venom look like he's Snacking...😈

    Although the omni5 has a sim card for AT&T cell coverage, it's not necessary. Just connect the g6 via Bluetooth to the omni5 and the upload the g6 transmitter to the pdm and in theory, it should all work via wifi without needing cell service or other devices. Hopefully you can get a resolution, it's a bummer that it's not working for you
