Great video, can I use my BD climbing harness for mountaineering? looks more bulky than the one you showed.

Ya, for sure, pretty much any rock climbing harness will work as a mountaineering harness, it’ll just be more bulky and heavy than a dedicated mountaineering one.

Also think about how it fits over multiple layers.

I feel like if the old timers could do it with the gear they had, i can get away with my first couple summits using my cheap old backpacking gear

You can do that a little bit if you are doing just smaller scrambles, but if you start doing anything more substantial, especially in the cascades probably go for the upgrades. There's a reason the old timers were called hardmen, suffering, and crazy risks got them up these climbs and a quarter of their friends died to boot. Modern purpose made equipment has made it alot safer and more enjoyable.

For everything there your probably looking at about 3k, but you can save some money by going for the more heavier gear when you start out and upgrade to the lighter stuff later on!
