I watched all 3 videos. As a PSIA instructor, I say it doesn't get any better than Deb Armstrong. She is a true professional with a fantastic method of teaching adults and kids. Her drills, tasks, and exercises are spot on and her verbal communication is amazing. I love watching her videos and always learn good things for my skiing and teaching.

Please make videos on beginner turning intermediate. Your teaching rocks. I’ve been skiing green slopes for three years. I feel confident in these but want to try intermediate. I’m in my 60s and didn’t start this up until 3-4 years ago.

Love it, Deb. I teach at Snowmass, mostly, and teach a lot of beginners. Great work with Tuesday. You gave me so much in this video so let me offer something that may be of value. I've worked with many of the world's greatest golf teachers including Cameron McCormick. He told me, "I always want something good to happen in the first 20 minutes of a lesson." That obviously happened with Tuesday. For me, with a beginner, it could be getting on the magic carpet while carrying skis. I make a big deal out of these victories. Thanks again, Deb.

What a great teacher you are. Tuesday accomplished tremendous progress and has foundations firmly in place. Snowplough (wedge) turns become more fluid with progression to skiiding turns which are parallel. Many cease to advance their skiing beyond that stage but it is at that point that the next course of lessons are needed to convert parallel turns to carved turns. The step change is as great from novice to parallel. Once that is mastered, then time to explore areas off-piste or cross into the snowboarding terrain. Thanks Deb. From an instruction perspective TOP marks!

For all beginners: stop the video at 13:29 you see both at the end of the turn. You can see easily how much more bend she has in the ankle, thus being more over the ski and having a better balance. Feeling the front of the boot instead of the back of the boot. But in general for a first lesson the scholar is doing an incredible job, and you Deb without a doubt are one of my favourite teachers I got to know. Always learning something new

Please consider a similar format video with a lower intermediate to move from early parallels with not much to low edging skills to more dynamic edged pressured turns. Love to see how to progress that as my better half is struggling to make the leap. Cheers.

You have the ideal student and terrain. Not all people catch on as easily as she did and where I instruct we don't have multiple areas to teach on, just flat, magic carpet and a harder green. No in between from the carpet to the green (more like easier blue) so we have a lot of "run away" students first time off the lift, no matter how well they demonstrated their stopping skills on the magic carpet run. I'd l love to instruct where you are. Your teaching skills are top notch. I'd even love a lesson from you.

Nice use of repetitive visualization ! As you say mileage is the key . . . The Mind and body are learning something new together, and successful repetitive reinforcement is key ! Your student is a great typical cross section of the students in my classes. Usually I take the Ski Poles away from my students so as to eliminate effort from the Skier to use their Hands and Arms to assist in the turn . . . which they will often try to do. If my student does have Ski Poles, I will encourage them to keep the basket and tips slightly behind them . . . good for safety concerns. Great video . . . thanks for sharing ! ( Happy Holidays !! )

And the flow part.. watching this demo, I am trying to see myself few years back..now, being more experienced, I would say " may the flow be with you"😊. But with more mileage, things will get built-up. Then, skiing along with family, is priceless. Good luck, and thanks Deb for putting a video for beginners. Love all her videos.🤗

Hello Ms Debbie, I watched a couple of your videos since last year. Its from one of your videos where I learned how to climb up sideways and stand on the edge of my skis to not slide - the ski instructor was impressed how I knew that, considering it was my first time ever to wear ski boots and ski ever in my life. However, I started watching these parts with Tuesday in particular since I started going to ski lessons for our holiday in March. Two weeks ago, Saturday, I fell so many times from the dry ski slope (7 times!!) and I just couldn’t turn or do the wedge stop properly. I watched this specific video before I went to sleep, and the next day for my ski lesson, I didn’t fall over even once, and most importantly, I was able to turn on a wedge gently from left to right. One week later, I was able to ski from the top of dry ski slope, I was able to turn from left to right with more speed and control; when we go to Les Arcs, i am hoping to get more lesson there and hopefully learn how to parallel turn. But I am already watching your videos with Kelly, and I am already learning a lot. Thank you so much; you are the best ski instructor on youtube- i just really love your enthusiasm.❤️

I stumbled onto your channel and oh what a treasure trove of information. Taking my daughters on their first big ski trip to Vail. Mom and dad have been skiing for years but have held off until they were older ( 9 and 12) for a multitude of reasons. These Beginner videos are just amazing on how to approach a beginner. Also, your teaching style and patience are something we should all strive for in our daily lives when we are teaching anything to someone else. Oh and by the way, the girls are getting a private lesson with an instructor and ski school. So mom and dad know we have no business teaching them the fundamentals, but I do want to have some tips in my pocket for them and to help me recognize issues and help. New subscriber now :)

A mention to Tuesday about pole position would be helpful. Looks like she has a tendency to control things with her poles.

Deb, thanks so much for your video. I am buying ski's this afternoon and haven't been skiing in about 20 years. My Grandson, 9, and I signed up for Sunday passes at the local mole hill. He is a good hockey player but has never skied. I wanted to brush up on my teaching skills, and probably my skiing skills. Your video was awesome. Haven't looked at all of your videos yet but I have been online for hours this week trying to figure out what skis to purchase for me and Mikey. If I could recommend a video, guiding 50 somethings on how to get back into the sport. It's so exciting to get back into this after years. Double Daffy's with 160cm skis seems easy.. Prolly shouldn't do that though. Thanks again. Oh, and I remember you getting the gold. It was awesome!

Nice. I really like some of the terminology combined with hand movements. I prefer more emphasis on turning to stop as a very early step, moving away from the wedge for speed control as soon as possible. I like the "grab the mountain" term. I prefer more emphasis on letting the ski do the work and explaining how pressure, combined with the sidecut of the ski, makes an arc that will naturally turn whereas Deb emphasized actively turning the outside ski, which you really can't do. Would have liked to see how she introduced getting on/off the lift prior to loading. Not quite as critical with that six pack lift but our beginner lift is an old double and unloading can be difficult for beginners since it is moving faster and the ramp is a bit steeper. Like she said, there are many different ways to do a beginner lesson and we can all learn from each other.

Of course you can actively turn the outside ski in the environment of this beginner lesson. Going down the slope 30mph or faster or whatever, you're going let the ski do what it's designed to do but this wasn't it. That said, I agree with moving away from wedge for speed control almost as soon as the person got the wedge concept. Which, pretty much happened here, within a few hours Deb took Tuesday to parallel turns.
