I love that it tells you which foot to use with the specific stitches. And the fact that you can adjust your speed is really helpful. The fact that it is quiet and doesn’t shake is divine.

Yes, it’s a smart little machine. So many features you’d expect to have to pay much more for.

I had a sewing machine since the 80’s. It’s acting up. I’m now retired and decided to get a new one. I’m definitely getting this one. You’re knowledgeable and explain everything well. Thanks for that.

It’s amazing what this machine offers.

Speed adjustment is a great feature especially for those areas where you need to take your time and get around those curves and intricate spaces. Love that large extension because who doesn't need more room to work in?

Very nice. That's my favorite with the quitting feature.

Yes, this one really surprised me!

Another nice sewing machine! I don't know why - but watching you demo them is very calming. This one had well done stitches - although I think the other ones did, too. Lack of running around the sewing table is an absolute plus as is the relative quiet of the machine. Good selection of stitches! I hope you get your gardening done before any frost.

Honestly, mine as well. I really liked the Juki, but the extra stitches and the extension table are two great additions pushing this Brother a bit ahead if I had to choose!

I was honestly thinking this would be my least favorite. The plain box had me thinking it would not be great. And it’s the lightest machine so I was expecting it to shake/rock. Boy was I wrong! Good luck in the drawing Lola!

Same with me! The plain old box made me feel it would be the least impressive. It’s also the lightest. But much sturdier then the other brother and so many more features!

Yes, Sylvia, it has some features that you wouldn’t expect in such a budget friendly machine. And it’s very sturdy! Love it.

I just bought a Brother XR9550. I finally get to learn to sew like my grandma did. Also an older gentleman here, term used loosely. I've never sewn a stich before and just set up the machine yesterday. I know someday it will be second nature, but now everything is difficult, but a fun challenge. This is a comment and a question, I just got this sewing machine for an early Christmas present from my husband. I don't know how to sew or use a sewing machine, but my husband does am willing to learn a lot about sewing on a sewing machine and you're pretty much teaching me a lot by watching. My question is what type of thread to use to make simple beginning things like an apron because am more in the kitchen then anything.

I am a fan of gutterman brand thread but any all purpose sewing thread should be fine for you-coats and cloths, etc. Enjoy your new machine!

Yes, it’s meant to act as a table extension. You can push the button to disengage/drop the feed dogs for free motion quilting.

I did not test that. This video was just to show a machine I gave away. Look up the machine in the company website and the description should advice you on its ability to do what you need it to do.

I am new to sewing but pretty handy. I have become obsessed with wanting to make canvas zipper bags for organizational purposes. Would this machine be appropriate? There seems to be a $200 price point where every basic machine is landing. I understand I don’t need an actual industrial machine, etc. and I would be doing simple projects and mending. Thoughts?

This machine should certainly handle seeing simple canvas zipper bags. I’d use a needle for heavy weight fabrics. For the price point, you just get a lot of functionality and machine to play around with. I’ve been sewing for decades, starting on a machine way more basic than this one and made all kinds of suits, fancy dresses and more. As you see more and realize it’s something you want to continue, you can always upgrade. That’s what I did. Check to see the return policy as well. If you can get a 30 day return policy, you can try it and see if it suits your needs. Good luck!

Did or do you need to change the tension often? How do you know when you need to change it? I’m considering buying one for my Mother but she always messes up the tension. Does the book give you ideas?

You’ll need to change the tension depending on the type of fabric you are use. For most things you can use the auto of mid-point that’s indicated. It’s all in the manual.

Just got this machine yesterday and have been trying out stitches. The cotton fabric gets knotted up with the thread under the plate on stitch #30 and some of the others. What am I doing wrong?

You should contact the store you purchased this from. It might be defective. There is also usually a trouble shooting section in the manual that might address this issue. In my experience, when there is extra thread and knotting on the under side, that’s usually an issue with the threading and or tension on the top thread. Issues on the top is usually because of the bobbin. But I don’t work for this company. I simply did a giveaway of this machine from My personal money and demonstrated it’s features. Good luck.

I do, but I won't be filming much with it. I did a big sewing machine giveaway for National Sewing Month and this was just a quick demo of the one of the 4 machines I gave away. All the presser feet I demonstrated came with the machine.

I have this sewing machine brand new, but when you were showing the stitches you did not show the lcd screen to see what numbers were displaying. Also, what number should the circle be set on when sewing I saw you had it on 4 . I was having problems with my stitching it was not sewing evenly showing the same stitches in front and back.

I’m not sure if you missed the intro but this is not a full review but a quick look. This video was part of a giveaway series where I bought and gave away 4 beginner friendly sewing machines. You have the machine, so you should do as I suggested and get a piece of fabric and just play with each stitch. The stitch design is displayed right on the machine. So you should see them and can play around with combinations. This is not my personal sewing machine that I sew with so I’m not thoroughly familiar with every aspect of it. If your manual isn’t helpful, search for videos on adjusting tension-that’s what usually causes uneven stitches. Perhaps your bobbin is loaded incorrectly. I hope you figure it out and be sure to fill out your warranty in case you just got a bad machine. Good luck!
