I've been using computers since 1993 and I didn't know 75% of what you just taught us. Thank you! Better late than never I guess.

Hint for pasting plain text w/o formatting in LibreOffice writer: avoid the diversion through gedit and use Ctrl+Shift+V in LibreOffice - shows a popup, where you can select to paste plain, unformatted text

Thanks. I knew there was another way to do that. I'll never remember it, though. LOL

Funny thing with the whole "cut, copy, paste" segment: There was a computers teacher in my high school (I don't know exactly what the class was, as I wasn't in it, but had him as a homeroom teacher) who didn't even know the keyboard shortcuts for them. Said teacher was gone by the end of the year.

a story from germany: it is a problem when a teacher can not translate the keyboard. On the germany keyboards the ctrl-key is named Strg for Steuerung. The sun of a friend asked the teacher what Strg means and the Answer is "Strong". It takes me month after month to explain the truth

Hi Joe, good job as ever. The Vim Emacs battle rages on to this day. I'm just taking a break from composing my Uni assignment, in Vim! Can't recommend it enough. I like Gedit as well, great little tool, surprisingly powerful.

I use nano simple and good. Vim need a configuration file which is not already there on some operating systems linux unix while nano is always the same. If i need to code C,C++ i use qt creator, for python/bash scripts mousepad or gedit are at the same level.

You only need a config file if you want to customise it. I think the main thing that people often overlook is that to use Vim, you really need to be able to touch-type.
